Questions Answered: Part 1 – Game Mechanics, Weapons & PEC System
Questions Answered: Part 2 – Multiplayer
Questions Answered: Part 3 – Story Mode / Terrorist Hunt

Game Mechanics, Weapons & PEC System

Destroyable Environments – You've heard of bullet penetration, but we've taken it further. Not only can you shoot through wooden doors and thin walls, you can also break certain objects (such as tables) within the battlefield depending on its durability. See a tango taking cover behind a wooden crate? Shred it and watch them panic, or just shoot them through the box, whatever works for you. You can also damage certain vehicles, some to the point where they even explode. We also give you environmental objects that can help you, such as fire extinguishers which will give off smoke when you shoot them, and combustible tanks. We didn't place these objects in areas that don't fit within the environment (I've seen other games where gas tanks are placed in the middle of a public street); these environmental tools are found in places that make sense, such as a gas tank under a BBQ grill. Be warned... if the enemy AI spots these objects they'll use them on you too.

Sprinting - You can sprint for a limited time until your character gets tired. Think of an imaginary bar that depletes itself when you sprint, and slowly begins to fill up again when you don't. While you sprint you cannot do any other actions, so use it wisely. It's really handy when you hear a frag hitting the floor. Sprinting uses the Left Bumper (360), L2 (PS3) and Shift Key (default for PC, can be re-assigned).

Other Game Mechanics -
Sorry folks, no "active reload". Gadgets work pretty much the same. Doors behave the same as Vegas 1 (open and close) with the inclusion of shooting through them/blowing them up depending on the thickness. No melee. Cover system is the same as Vegas 1 but more refined (a lot of testing went into ridding bugs). No "running-man" glitch. No location-based armour (shooting a person's leg causes the same damage as shooting their arm), however, if your enemy AI is being shot in the foot when taking cover, he'll actually respond now by moving further back behind cover.

Weapons -
The 11 new weapons are as follows:
P99 (Pistol)
AUG PARA (SMG)
Type 05 JS (SMG)
SKORPION VZ83 (SMG)
FNC (Assault)
L85A2 (Assault)
AKS-74U (Assault)
M468 (Assault)
500 TACTICAL (Shotgun)
L96 Arctic Warfare (Sniper)
SR-25 SD (Sniper)

The "Noob Cannon" (XM-26 LSS) has a slower rate of fire than Vegas 1. Silencers do NOT alert other enemy AI if they aren't paying attention, which is a major improvement for silencer gameplay. The new SR-25 SD is the first sniper gun with a silencer attachment, making it extra deadly. I can also confirm that silencers DO add extra accuracy to guns but lessens the damage. You can now attach an ACOG Scope on SMGs.

P.E.C. Menu - Improvements from Vegas 1: you can now "swap gadgets" without having to go through the trouble of manually swapping to a different gadget and replacing your current one. Also, you now have 4 slots for custom preset equipment templates: Assault, Recon, Demolition & Sniper. Whatever weapons and gadgets you save on each template will always be there as you freely swap between them. Another great feature is having an auto-save for silencers and rate of fire, meaning, if you have your silencer on in single player, co-op or multiplayer, they will automatically save unless you replace the weapon. You also have a separate equipment template for Story/Terrorist Hunt because you can assign "two primary" guns and a handgun, unlike multiplayer where you assign "one primary" gun and a handgun. Yes, you can now assign two primary guns when playing Terrorist Hunt offline AND online. Last but not least, the P.E.C. menu is not on a separate screen that requires loading. You see the P.E.C. menu as soon as you press start at the main title screen. For those who have played Vegas 1, you will be happy to know that there are no longer 2 loading screens prior to joining a multiplayer map. Loading times have been drastically improved.

Thanks alot Levelup! Big Grin You say the cover system has not changed. That is fine, what really is on people's minds is; is First-person optional for cover mode, and/or can the cover system be toggled on or off as the player sees fit?

The cover system works pretty much the same. There is no toggle for a first person option while in cover. On a similar note, depending on the cover the person is using, if you think there is someone there waiting for you, aim at the corner and your bullet may actually cap'em. Another thing I forgot to mention, certain corners made of concrete can also be destroyed, leaving a gap, exposing someone behind cover. You gotta really play smart. I can't wait to take you guys on.

Now we have to stay tuned for parts 2 and 3. Crying

I'm not a big fan of exploding gas tanks, especially after seeing the MythBusters try to pull it off (they didn't until they pulled out a minigun with incendiary rounds). Hopefully it won't be as huge a part of the game as the exploding cars are on some maps in COD4.

The auto-save for silencers and ROF is a nice touch. I'm not sure what having a 2nd primary will do for TH but it's good to know that they didn't add that to regular adversarial matches as well.

Night Fox was asking if there's an overall toggle for cover mode - i.e. can the host restrict the game to 1st person only.

Well I had heard somewhere that you guys tried really hard for a long time with various different techniques to implement a first-person cover view and it just wasn't working. So, I am glad at least you were listening to us and tried your best to make it work. Always better than ignoring us. Wink

So I guess there will be no server-side option to disable it or even to have it on but also have a lean?

That's a deal-breaker for me, but thanks for finding the answer. Frown

I thought the GRAW 2 single player mode, 1st person view cover/lean worked very well. The only problem was occasionally getting stuck to the wall, but using the R6V control scheme would have fixed that problem.

All of a sudden, I wish Brodie's helicopter had a minigun Wink.
As much as I loved the Mythbusters showing that you can't shoot a gas tank to make it explode, I doubt that will stop game developers since exploding barrels have been a staple since Doom. However I'm glad the Tom Clancy games have kept this to a minimum (I seem to recall only coming across a couple gas tanks in Vegas).

levelup, thanks for taking the time to answer some of the questions.

im sorry to hear about being stuck with the 3rd person cover mode with no choice otherwise, but maybe the whole disintegrating cover and shooting thru walls will be a plus.

however i am still a bit uncomfortable with being able to see through AND shoot through walls. we'll see how this plays out in the game when it comes out.

i think my biggest question, and perhaps the one thing that may be the decicive factor in whether or not i buy the game, will this have a "hardcore mode" in multiplayer?

i saw some of the screenshots did not have a radar in the corner. is there a separate mode in the adversarial MP we can play with no radar/HUD, AND have bullet damage as 1-hit kills?

please say yes. thanks.

Thanks for the post.

A few requests. Could you please add the PSO 4x scope for the AK47 and AKS-74U. Also the EOTech 551/552 and M68 Aimpoint would be nice. I doubt they will be added but if I'm gonna post anywhere, this would be the place to do so.

More Importantly PLEASE include a list of servers and the option to create a room with the cover system disabled. That would add SO much replay value.

Thanks! So many more questions answered and its only part 1 of 3. Can't wait for the next one. I don't think I can play CoD4 for 50 or so more days until Vegas 2 comes out. Hopefully it comes out on schedule.

Nice to see you actually talk to the community because I haven't heard anything out of IW since like early December. Hopefully it keeps up even after release.

So I'm guessing we are going to see BBQs in the middle of the street, on poker tables and in hotel lobbies no?

Silencers do not make guns more accurate. When you attach a silencer to a gun you have to recalibrate the guns zero. Meaning the guns bullets will hit a different mark lower than the original. The gun will still hit the same mark over and over again. The new silencers made nowadays do not impede accuracy that much, a silencer does reduce velocity and recoil. High powered rifle bullets travel faster than the speed of sound and create a sonic boom, you have to use sub-sonic ammo to have a true silenced rifle. The actual name for a silencer is a suppressor, they should be called reducers, cause thats all they do. They reduce sound, velocity, range, accuracy, damage, and recoil. Please tell me that the silencers don't make the guns more accurate. Any answer is welcome. I really like how the silencers are on the first VEGAS.

When you die in the game, will it point you toward your killer? Exposing the enemy that just shot you. When you die you should just fall down pointed in the direction you were looking. How does this KILL CAM work?

Have the developers fixed the ballistics problems with smaller rounds doing the same damage as the larger rounds. Will 5.56mm assault rifles still have better or the same damage ratings as the 7.62mm assault rifles. Will 9mm pistols do the same damage as .40 caliber and .45 caliber. This is a big concern for me, the guns that shoot bigger bullets had more recoil and a slower rate of fire, while the guns that shoot the smaller bullets have less recoil and a higher rate of fire. And this is how it should be, accept on VEGAS 1 all of the guns in a particular category had the same damage rating. here is an example, the MTAR21 shoots 5.56mm and has a damage rating of 8 bars, the AK-47 shoots 7.62mm and has a damage rating of 7 bars. The MTAR21 has less recoil and a higher rate of fire, so why has the AK-47 been robbed of its damage?

Propane Tanks Explode, thats true.
Are the cars actually going to explode? Will the cars just catch on fire like in real life?

Do you know what shoulder glitching is? And have you fixed it?

I read a disturbing post on another Ubi forum, It said the special edition will give you exclusive rights to in-game weapons. Whats this? Heres the post.

According to this store in New Zealand, there will be a special edition of the game which is only available by pre-ordering. You get the following bonus items:

- Metal box packaging
- Bonus DVD
- Two postcards signed by the development team
- Access to exclusive weapons in-game

Tx levelup.

Ive been playing story in vegas lately and i think its the best i played so far, cause its just so fn cool. Those sounds, music. Good job.
Realistic? No, but i dont really care. As long as its realistic in a certain way. And that job is verry well done. By no 1 before as far as i know.

I got a question though, how is this kill the leader- then enemies wont respawn- thing is gonna work? Cause i dont really like endless spawing. That could take to much away from realism, no...?

And i saw a demolition-sniper slot. So this is 1 category? That would xplain the high ammount of grenades. So if you choose demolition ur gonna be a sniper also?
