Well, I guess it's time to go hang out in other gaming forums that communicate with their fans...

http://www.ubisoftgroup.com/ga...te/270/1042/1967.pdf

They announce the games for 2009/10 and no Rainbow Six is there. I guess Ghost Recon is a good thing though.

The games line-up for 2009-10 will include the following flagship titles:
− 7 franchised games, including Assassin's Creed® 2, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell®
Conviction, Rabbids Go Home™, Red Steel® 2, Ghost Recon® 4 and Anno™ 1404.
− 4 licensed games – James Cameron's Avatar, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles™, Cloudy
with a Chance of Meatballs and Arthur and the Invisibles.
− 3 new brands – R.U.S.E., I am Alive and a sports game for the Wii™.
− New titles based on the successful Petz, Imagine and MyCoach brands and new
innovations for Wii™.

That's not necessarily true. There's "7 franchised games" but only 6 are listed...

I think #7 is Call of Juarez 2.

If this is true then it's a real shame.

I loved the old Rainbow 6 games but I also enjoyed Vegas 1&2 hugely. For me the whole series has been fantastic.

I really hope they don't let this series die as it's provided me with some of my best gaming memories.

It is a shame.

As Deosl pointed out in the PC thread, Driver is probably the missing 7th franchise since they are in the process of trademarking the name and can't talk about it until then. There would be no reason for them to hold back if it were an R6 game.

Well, it was nice while it lasted. I was never suckered into Lockdown or Vegas 2 but I did give Vegas a brief shot.

I can't understand this decision?

Did Vegas 1&2 lose them money? I really enjoyed playing them, loads of people I know bought both titles and had a blast....literally!

I hope they bring this series back.

i'm going to take this as a good sign.

i think 1 of these 4 things are possible:

1. they are building an entirely new R6 game from scratch (with maybe even an entirely new engine) and this time they are taking their time with it (good thing). hopefully no rushed game with fundamentally unfixable glitches like the past 2 games.

2. they did the right thing by putting the R6 name to rest. i know i and some others on this forum have said a few times that it would be better to end the franchise than to drag it on by releasing more R6 titles that have even less and less to do with the original concept of the game.

3. the 7th unlisted title is R6.

4. the dev team took a really long vacation... i mean "location scouting" research trip for the next title and it got delayed.

i'm going with #1 or #3 (trying to be optimistic here).

i got a feeling that a new R6 title will show up spring 2010. that puts development at 2 years. same as COD4 to MW2.

I'll bet money that this is what they are doing. They made their money from the Vegas games but I think they realized that Vegas 2 was not a good entry in the series. It had quality issues, both technical and gameplay. The Vegas games have run their course and were not the future of the franchise (kind of like how GRAW has gone about as far as it can with the Ghost Recon series). I think Ubi has gone back to the drawing board and are building something from scratch but I don't think it will play like an old school R6 game. It'll still be an "accessible" game for the masses like Vegas or Call of Duty 4. The best I think we can hope for is some kind of hardcore mode. We are looking at a 3-4 year wait from the engine rework alone.

Really Ubisoft? These are the games you're spending your time on instead of another Rainbow game:

Rabbids Go Home
Red Steel 2
James Cameron's Avatar
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Arthur and the Invisibles

It makes sense though. Ubisoft has never listened to what their fans want. Why should they start now. My only hope is that in this economy they go bankrupt and the Rainbow license is bought up by a quality company.

My guess is that they are going to use the Dunia engine that they created for Farcry2.

It is a shame to waste all of the character models and artwork from Vegas though. They obviosuly spent more on the Vegas animations and artwork than they did to make the game playable.

I really dont know to be totally honest. Dunnia had some good atributes for the campaign aspect, yet the multiplayer system was horrible. Terrible lag performance without mentioning the higher number of glinches than R6V. There is some interesting stuff that Epic has been doing for the UE3 (4.0 if you are really counting). I cant seam to find a good link for it but they have revamped their lighting system and their AI support. My guess is that they might have the engineers studying what the new features can do. It was nice to see a bit of Physx here and there on R6V2, best place I can see it at is at murdertown, that blue cloth that flaps around.

Maybe they really are building something from the ground up, which will prob mean we might have a 2010 release. All in all the document doesnt say much we wanted but as you can skin through and pick up on some details, the document focuses more on the past financial status of the company and growth, the games are only stated slightly to reflect what the company has cooking, never the less these documents never put out all information, specially for these fans. Can you imagine the amount of chatter a simple mention of a sequel or new R6V game would produce, IMO they might keep this under wraps until they got something to show, and I wouldnt blame them. Its kinda like saying your working on a car that doesnt run on gas, but all you have is an idea.

Anyhow all we can do is wait, I personally would love to have another R6V game come out even if it is with a different name and premise, I still enjoy the fact that its the game that I always fall back to after any new game's hype, the online is the most realible in a shooter I have ever experienced and I hope they keep it that way Wink

If they are building something from the ground up then fair play to them, but I would gladly buy extra missions via DLC for Vegas 2 or buy a new game which utilised the same type of gameplay and physics, with a different environment to play in.

I know that Vegas 1 & 2 were different to the old Rainbow 6 games, but they were a lot of fun and I've had tons of enjoyment from both titles. The visuals, sounds, atmosphere, gameplay and control of AI people in co-op mode makes me sad that they're not releasing a 3rd Rainbow 6 for next-gen.

What other games on the Xbox 360 are similar to Rainbow 6's style of close quarter combat. I'll miss opening doors to chuck a flashbang in and then my co-op mate storming in and clearing a room, or throwing a grenade around the corner to take out unsuspecting guards, 90 degree cross fire into rooms etc.

2 fantastic games in their own right, even if they didn't mimick the earlier Rainow 6 games.
