Question:
Would you rather have new maps, or redo some of the old ones first?

Choices:
Lets crank out some new maps PRONTO
Nah, I still am missing Casino Vault, LVU, etc...

I would like to see some completely new maps that are designed for this game.
Larger maps with more room for more players to work together.

I like some of the old maps, but Vegas 2 was supposed to be based on the suburbs of Vegas!!
We got very few new maps with Vegas 2.
(Most were reworked .. down sized maps from Vegas 1)

But then Ubisoft is so busy trying to push new unfinished games out, that they really don't have a lot of time for a game that has already been released!

The problem with redoing any older maps from the series (the original R6 series spanning all games thus far) is because they have to be compatible across PC, 360 and PS3... They will always be truncated versions because of the hardware limitations on the consoles.

Oil Refinery is a perfect example. Import-Export is another one. It's only HALF the map if you have ever played the originals found in "Raven Shield".

Again, this is because of the limited hardware (RAM) in the consoles.

So, to answer the question asked...

I don't even care about any maps, new or old, because they aren't, won't be true versions because they are downsized and are almost linear in a lot of ways compared to their original counter-parts that are three, or four times big.

Given a choice, I would say if they came out with a 8-map mappack, make 6 new ones and give us Vault and Library from R6V.
Of course more than 8 is always preferable.

I would prefer new maps but a nice mix of new and old maps wouldnt be too bad. We do need larger maps to give sniper rifles more use and have more team work.

all In what? 2years or so? PLZ UBI for gamers sake, put out 1 great one! then make more "great ones" you would still make alot of cash, because you could have Vegas-->expansion 1----->expansion2---->20 map pack bundle ($29 each) add It up! lots of cash, happy gamers, repeat customers Big Grin

Dead on.

I can't wait till the console days are behind us and games are designed based on leading PC hardware standards again (don't fool yourself in thinking that MicroSoft or Sony will actually put out another gen of consoles so they can lose more billions of dollars).

That said, my dream is for one day some company to re-boot the franchise with a page for page plotline from the novel, using all the original locations (1. Bank - Switzerland, 2. Mountainside Villa, Austria, etc), a return of a full, soup to nuts planning stage (equipment, weaponry, local police coveralls, waypoints, pre-defined sniper locations), all the original personnel and their back stories, real-world weaponry and equipment, and of course the latest cutting edge FPS engine at the core of the game.

See my registration date? Yea, I'm pissed.

I would rather see/play new maps. If i wanted to play calypso casino or any other RSV1 map i would go play RSV1. This is RSV2 now and we need to move on with the next step, not go back in time. Please don't make this mistake in the future ubi.

So why can't Ubisoft design some nice big maps for the PC, then cut them down to work on the consoles?

Why should the PC gamers be penalized because consoles can't handle the larger maps?
Other companies with similiar games, have much larger maps that run fine. (Even on consoles)

New maps. New maps. New maps. Then give us a map maker so we can remake and improve the older maps ourselves as a community.

I want the old maps back because probably it would take them less time to reprogram old maps into RSV2 than to make new maps.

ROFLOL now that's the funniest post I've heard to date!! Too Happy

"According to data compiled by the NPD Group, a global market research company, and released by the ESA in January 2008, computer and video game companies posted records sales in 2007. The industry sold 267.8 million units, leading to an astounding $9.5 billion in revenue. Of these sales:

* Game console software sales totaled $6.6 billion with 153.9 million units sold;

* Computer games sales were $910.7 million with 36.4 million units sold; and,

* There was a record $2.0 billion in portable software sales with 77.5 million units sold.

NPD's research also showed:

* On average, nine games were sold every second of every day of 2007;

* Halo 3, the best-selling title of 2007, took in more revenue in its first day of sales than the biggest opening weekend ever for a movie ("Spider-Man 3") and the final "Harry Potter" book's first day sales; and,

* The entertainment software industry sold over 13.4 million portable game units in 2007, easily trumping the much-hyped Apple iPhone, which sold just four million units."

http://www.theesa.com/facts/salesandgenre.asp

Here are some more facts I found very enlightening:

"The ESA's "2007 Essential Facts About the Computer and Video Game Industry" showed that today's average gamer is 33 years old and has been playing for 12 years. The research also revealed other interesting demographic facts about today's gamers including:

* Heads of Households – Sixty-seven percent of heads of households play computer and video games.

* Women – Forty percent of all players are women and women over 18 years of age are one of the industry's fastest growing demographics. Today, adult women represent a greater portion of the game-playing population (33 percent) than boys age 17 or younger (18 percent).

* Seniors – Twenty-six percent of game players are over the age of 50, an increase from nine percent in 1999. This figure is sure to rise in coming years with nursing homes and senior centers across the nation now incorporating video games into their activities.

* Parents – More than a third (35 percent) of parents play computer and video games and 93 percent of these parents have children who also play them. Sixty-three percent of parents with children under the age of 18 consider computer and video games a positive addition to their children's lives.

* Growth – From 2003 to 2006, the entertainment software industry's annual growth rate exceeded 17 percent. Over the same period, the entire U.S. economy grew at a less than four percent rate.

* GDP – In 2006, the entertainment software industry's value added to U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was $3.8 billion. The industry also makes a disproportionate contribution to the real growth of the nation as whole. For example, in 2005-06 the industry's contribution to real growth exceeded its share of GDP by more than four to one."

To say that MS and Sony will not keep an industry that is quite literally blowing pc gaming out of the water, is ludicrous at best.
Console games in units sold were more than triple the PC.
Thanks for the laugh! Profile

Ide be happy with a map editor. In graw1 I had no problems decompiling the story mode missions and using that code to produce a variety of maps. The first thing i would do here is copy and paste the entire snow level over so we can have some decent sized maps. These small maps always turn into run an gun no matter what type of player you are. You can claim that your a super tactical player, but your still trying to be the first one to the center of the map because you know enemies can only travel as far as you can. Lets get past that and spread out these scrawny maps so we can really work on tactics.

I think we need both. There is no reason why at $60/purchase, Ubisoft can't show any love to their loyal fanbase. Adjusting the brightness on two maps is a slap in the face. Bringing back calypso is nice, but the amount of maps needs to be increased. We need more maps, be it new or old. Don't duplicate maps we can already play. I can't imagine who thought this was a good idea. Probably the same intelligent people who announced the map pack for today and REALLY came through! Steam is coming out of my ears.
