Sorry for not reacting sooner.
I was (am for 2 more days) on vacation and had limited (aka almost none) access to a computer.
As for the cheat codes, I can't really help you, I'm sorry to say. You might want to try here and here.

But let me ad that for some reason that escape most heroes fans, Nival is putting a lot of effort into making it harder and harder to use the cheat codes. Using the cheat codes was easy when the game came out. Then the number of cheat codes was limited. Then it was made even harder... basically, with every patch they made it harder to use cheat codes.

As for maps try:

Here and here.

Lastly, if you cannot win a game not even on easy I would suggest a new approach to gaming. What works really well for me, on all levels, is the super army. Have some scouts with only one creature as scouts to explore territory, but leave most to almost all of your creatures with one hero that you use for attacking enemy heroes and also defending your territory. Only when your army is so big that you wil all battles and can really spare extra creatures start building a second strong army so that you can leave one behind for defending while the first even stronger army goes and conquers.
Oh, and if you are on the campaigns, there are walkthroughs for the campaigns to be found at Celestial heavens, if I remember correctly.

Trust me, I used the cheat codes in the beginning when it was easy. All that using the cheat codes does is make the game boring.

Well, as I do say in the FAQ, I don't pretend to know it all, I simply posted Questions and Answers that have been given in posts on the forum. So all I can do is guess.

First of all, if you made the folder yourself you might have misspelled it. It is supposed to be spelled:

maps

Besides that, another thing that it can be is that most maps that are made are multiplier maps. Now, you can also play those as single player so that you DL multiplayer maps is no a problem. The thing is that in the game where you select your maps there is a checkbook that says ˜show multiplayer maps' And (if I remember correctly) a checkbox that says ˜show RMG maps.'

If you don't have those selected (checked) then it will only show you the few single player maps that the game came with.

If it's not that, than I wouldn't know what the problem is for maps that you DL.

But if you made the maps yourself there is one more thing. H5 checks if a map is playable. If not then it won't show the map no matter what. The problem here is that the map editor only checks if you don't have any problems like a castle in the water. So in the map editor the map may come out as alright. But it won't mention things like the small fact that you don't have a hero and have the towns set to not start with a hero.

Anyway, the point is that if H5 does not see the map as playable it won't show it. But again, that's normally only with maps you created yourself since maps on the net are normally tested.

Also, about changing the extension. How do you do this? You have to keep in mind that just using the Windows explorer won't cut it. If you have a zip file and you just use the Windows explorer to ad .H5m then you aren't changing the expansions, but merely are changing the name that the file has. You have to use a program that does actually change the expansion names.

H.W.

Do you have the latest patches installed?
You have to have the same version as others to be able to play MP.

HoF has a ˜check for updates' button. (In the start menu, in the same location where the HoF launcher is located.) If you use that it ensures that you have the right version of the patch and also automatically installed the patch after DL. (Once you agreed to it.)

If you don't want to do that but instead want to use a patch you DL from a site, then first of all make sure that you have the correct patch or else you will get the ˜Heroes not installed' message. But once you have the patch; all the H5 and Hof patches are self extracting and self installing programs. Once you DL the patch click on it and run it. It then automatically installs itself. So it doesn't matter at all where you keep the patch. You can DL it onto the desktop or any folder you like.

And for ˜what if after DL/installing the patch you can still not play' I would suggest first actually installing the patch and see if it works before asking what to do if it not works.

It might work, you might get an error message and from that one can say what the problem is, you might still not get online... to many variables to say ˜what if it doesn't work.'

Links of where to find the patches are given in the very first post of this topic.
As for the patch, did you use the ˜check for updates' button? Because I can't remember hearing that someone that installed the patch for HoF had a problem with it showing the incorrect version number. This was an issue for some people with the normal game (so the version 1.1 to 1.5) but not with HoF.

Click the ˜check for updates' button to see and make sure that it says ˜no updates available' if you get that message back you are patches all the way, otherwise you will start to automatically downloade the patch after clicking that button.

You failed at helping someone at the simple patching process?! How can you call yourself helpful when the person you try to help ends up too confused that it decides to abandon both the game and the HoMM series altogether? Angry Blue Guy

No wonder that I had to help you out at choosing your next PC. Roll Eyes

It is even too late for me to help out now. Razz

Give this Forum a favor and, do not attempt to help out ever again. Mad

It's alias-hw's fault that this guy was too stupid to click the "Check for Updates" link like he told him too and then he pouts like a baby and runs off? He told him exactly how it's done and that alone would be enough. The patching process is simple and works on it's own, so there is nothing more to do than to click one simple link.

I guess alias should have suggested completely rebuilding his computer like you seem to think is the solution for all problems regarding this game.

Well, did you ever hear of the saying: ˜You can lead a horse to the water, but you can't make it drink.'
I think that very much applies here.

What I really would like to know is why you come here talking about how sad it is that I can't help someone with patch the game... and then you yourself don't even try. Why is there no ˜here do it this way.'

Why not kill two birds with one stone? First help someone with the game and second show everyone that you can do what I (according to you) failed to do.

But no, all you do is come here and spew a lot of negativity. Hell, I don't mind if someone shows me how incompetent I am; go right ahead; you help this person make the game work.

quote:

No wonder that I had to help you out at choosing your next PC. Roll Eyes

Once again you are grossly misinformed about the facts, which is really a sad thing considering that you actually were part of that topic and posted two messages there.

Your ˜help with choosing my next PC' was in saying I need at least one gig or ram... AFTER I said that the new system would have one gig of ram. And talking some nonsense about adding 500 MB of ram to that one gig so that the memory would then run at a different speed... as I said, nonsense. Which I btw didn't do.

So you most definitely did not help me choose my new system, and the one (nonsense) suggestion that you did make, I stayed wide away from.
Besides, since you are that known with computer stuff you would have known that it would be impossible to follow your suggestion even if I wanted to since the motherboard has a dual memory system. I forgot what the technical name for it is, but what's important is that everything memory wise has to happen in pairs. I have to have two one gig cards, or four one gig cards, or two one gig and two two gig cards, or four two gig cards. Nothing else is possible. If you want to refresh your memory, here is the link to the topic... BTW, you do know that when you go edit your own posts that there is a ˜last edited on' message that shows that you changed the post... right? You do know that, right?

quote:

It is even too late for me to help out now. Razz

That sounds very dramatically... but too late for what? Help me with the computer system that I have for four months already now, or too late with helping this person with the game?
That's nice convenient statement, isn't it? You just say that I can't help this person and then you quickly state that it's too late for you too help. Sure.
Well, I now say that you have no idea on how you could help this person besides saying the things I already said. Go on; prove mo wrong. Say something that would have fixes his patching problem that I didn't already say.

quote:

Give this Forum a favor and, do not attempt to help out ever again. Mad

I said it once before, and I say it again; you should really try to listen a little bit more to your own advice.
