Don't take this the wrong way, as I loved NWC dearly, but NWC didn't want to stick with the medieval style either. It took a near community-wide boycott to change their minds. But this was the original plan for the Heroes 3 expansion of Armageddons' Blade. The Forge (not the hastily re-done conflux). I won't post the bare-breasted Naga Tank as this is a family-friendly forum. But you get the idea. NWC's original intent was to merge the Heroes franchise with the M&M RPG franchise. And the RPG's were notorious for adding modern/future technology into the game as a surprise ending. The death threats from the fans changed their thinking. So let's keep NWC off the proverbial pedastal. They were great, no doubt, but even greatness has some warts. :O) "The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings or endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning." |

I must admit I have always liked the idea of the Forge
I see you - when I turn away I hold you -when my hands are full I kiss you - when you aren't here - Freedom - Never shall you be more than a name to me |

Wow, I had no idea about the Forge.
That would have been AWESOME. Hail Bugle, emperor of all weirdos. Those who are about to die of weirdness salute you. Once the Official chief annoyance to the Cult of Alderbranch. HoMM Kingdoms? Sign me up! Hope it's better than Travian *shudder* |

I did too, it was very unique. However I also like the game without the sci-fi elements included. But you have to remember that a LARGE portion of the Heroes fans at that time had never even played the M&M RPG's...so adding tech to Heroes was pretty close to blasphemy to them. I personally could've lived with or without the forge. My problem rose from the fact that they let the small group of irate fans determine the direction of the franchise. And worse, they never altered the release date and therefore patched together the Conflux town on the fly. The balance of the town and the storyline for the campaign was by far the worse seen by NWC up to that point. It just set a bad precedent in my eyes. "The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend.

At least the Forge is true to the roots of the series -- in fact it's equally as true as the medievil stuff - and western in style. The anime is neither.
I don't know about Armageddon's Blade's storyline being the worst in the series either. Your mileage may vary but I still think it was probably the best seen until HoMM IV. |

I dunno, I found the Armageddon's blade story itself to be kind of... lame. But I liked the other stories, aside from Dragon's Blood. Especially Sir Christian's. That campaign is still one of my favorites overall because it was silly AND it makes you think differently.

Hey, we're not irate!
We're disgruntled at worst, and I'd say I'm downright jolly most of the time! Hail Bugle, emperor of all weirdos. Those who are about to die of weirdness salute you. Once the Official chief annoyance to the Cult of Alderbranch. HoMM Kingdoms? Sign me up! Hope it's better than Travian *shudder* |

But would Ubi be listening to a group of jolly fans?

Surprisingly...yes. I get the impression (from the past...I'm not very familiar with the current team yet) that they look for the positive feedback FIRST to confirm that they're on the right track. It also keeps spirits up as opposed to the constant slamming of their hard work. "The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. Yeah, I was mostly joking with that remark, but I do realise I have a strange sense of humour which "sometimes" is a bit hard to understand. I was imagining a group of laughing, halfways drunk and noisy fans patting the Ubi team on their back while they tried to work
However, it would be nice if they looked at constructive criticism. Constant hammering I can understand if they ignore, but stuff like the story, MP and AI should be pretty obvious areas for improvement. HoMM V had potential and probably was better than most games on the market just then, but if they had listened more to folks like Zamolxis I think it would have been better. I see you - when I turn away I hold you -when my hands are full I kiss you - when you aren't here - Freedom - Never shall you be more than a name to me |

GOing back on topic, I'm going to interpret this thread as a "Ask Xhane questions" thread.
Hey Xhane... Do you know why there's so little info about Clash of Heroes out? You have to dig really hard on Ubi's main site to find it, and what you do find is so minimal it's almost nothing. Then there's the Clash website itself, which hasn't been updated since August. And the heroes website has a link promising a dev diary, but is actually a broken link. And I've rarely seen mention of it elsewhere, I think once on Kotaku and a few times on Celestial Havens. I'm honestly fairly interested in the game as what I've seen of it looks pretty cool. But I've seen so little, I'm not sure if it's something I'd want to buy. Not to mention I've seen the release date fluctuate from August to September to October, to november, and now December. But I've yet to see evidence of even the December date sticking. So what's the deal? Is there a reason you guys are keeping it so hush hush? Hail Bugle, emperor of all weirdos.
