It is a CD protection error, the old 3DO copies of MM9 works like a charm (patched, of course, otherwise it runs but it doesnt "work") And in some countries it is legal to have a nocd crack -if- you own the original copy of it, personally I hate cd switching and wish that developers would have just settled for a cd key sometimes.
But the only solvable way that I can tell is to crack your -legally- bought copy. And then hope that TELP's MM9 tavern finishes that MM9 1.4 patch, that adds to, or should I say, finishes the game. |

Hey Kareeah_Indaga, HOMM and MM are different game series. There is no HMM9.

i hate to say this guys, i really do, cuz i love the might and magic series.....but i think the solution to your problem is just to throw the discs out and get another game....
MM9 was horrible.....just terrible....ugly graphics....i cant think of a single good thing... if you havnt played all the titles in the might and magic series, play those instead. or how about wizardry 8? played that? if not, play that instead and save yourself the headache....or even disciples, its not like might and magic, but its a real good turn based stradgey game like HOMM. |

Another Dutchy with the same problem,
bought the game about 6 months ago and failed to install. So i just give it a rest and play some other games(also aquired HoMM 4 with expansions at the same time). Hopefully this'll be solved eventually, cuz i do wanna play this game(finished MM 3 till 8). 1 & 2 are a bit to ancient for my laptop Plan? I don't need plan, just a goal. The rest will follow on it's own. |

I've got to agree with myythryyn here. I've lived and breathed Might and Magic for 20 years now. I've simply loved this series for it's addictive qualities, in-depth storyline, detailed worlds and many, many other things. But MM9:Writ of Fate is, simply put, not worth your time or effort. That game was about half-way finished when 3do started to collapse. They dumped half the staff that was working on MM9 at that point and also slashed the budget for the game. They then shortened the deadline as well. Simply put, NWC never had a chance with that game. Given time, I'm confident that it would've been a great game (like all their other games). But 3do cut their legs out from under them. The game is filled to the brim with bugs, the storyline is choppy and thrown together, the graphics never got polished, the soundtrack was never finalized, etc, etc, etc. It's simply painful to play. It sort of reminded me of that last comeback that Michael Jordan did. He was a shadow of his former self, and he made it hard to remember his former greatness by making us watch his diminished skills. I prefer to remember Might and Magic for it's good quality games rather than that last unholy terror that 3do pushed onto the unsuspecting public. So save yourself the anquish...don't play it. To this day it's still the only NWC title I've never finished. *sigh*
"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings or endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning." |

I absolutely agree with Chucks storyline argument.
But the story was also very un-original. The character of Tamur Leng is basod on Timur i-Leng a historical warlord/conqueror of Central Asia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temur ) Also the names just sound too Norse.(Trondheim is even a real city in Norway, and the original capitol) Not to forget the monestary in Lindisfarne, I mean come on Faith is the most powerful thing in the world, because it can change the world. You know Secret Holder, I wouldn't be surprised if those names were simply placeholders during the design phase. They certainly never had the time or the funds to do detailed work in regards to proofreading and editing of the storyline. JVC was pretty anal about that stuff, and even finding ONE typo was rare....until MM9. But then again, he had very little personally to do with that game. He was already being pushed out the door at that time...slowly, but surely.

I quote the great JVC:
Taken from: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_zdcgw/is_200404/ai_n9515262/ Faith is the most powerful thing in the world, because it can change the world. For better or worse - SH |

Hmmm, I see that Dutch people had this same problem two years ago. I recently bought this game (ironically, at the Free Records Shop), and it is whining about inserting the correct CD. Will some things never change?
