Now I am getting really annoyed!

After a couple of months chatting with Mastertronic about this, I sent them the CD's and they returned it to me saying that I had to contact UBISOFT. Strange since during the install procedure there is a support options which says to contact Mastertronic. Mastertronic says that this is a mistake from UBISOFT.

So...like a good boy...I send an error report to UBISOFT UK (actually for the 2nd time) and I get an automated message back that I can call a support line for help...nice but it does cost 90 euro cents an minuet. With support like this it makes me wonder why I bother to pay for games. UBISOFT ...I am sorry but you really bite the big one!

Mine is from UBISOFT, under the title of Ubisoft Exclusive. However during the install there is a startup window from Mastertronic. A bit confusing. According to Mastertronic they have had several calls about this from others. Thier answer is that UBISOFT made an error while creating the CDs.

Ouch, this looks awkwardly familiar... If i had known this before, i would not have spend as much on shipping it to the UK as on buying the game Sad
Anyways, Mastertronic returned the game, with their compliments, but i'm a bit hesitant to sent it to UBI too, as their support team seems to be as expensive as Mastertronics' is friendly...
Has anyone any solution how to get these freaked out cd's to work, any, at all...?

I finally got some more info back from Ubisoft...and it really sucks!

"Hi,

Thank you for your e-mail, I’m sorry to hear of the problems you have been experiencing, however I can confirm that this title was released by Mastertronic under the MAD label.

Regards,

Jacqui Lennon"

If any one wants a way to contact ubisoft...take the name above...but a '.' between and add @ubisoft.co.uk

I have just emailed a scan back from the cover of the game..I will see what they have to say.

If they are really claiming that, they are trying to make you give up. The very same Jacqui Lennon was informed by Mastertronic support that they were receiving their game at their tech support desks.
After Ubisoft was contacted by Mastertronic, i received a (possibly automated) email message referring me to their tech forum, signed and send by him.
His email is slightly different by the way, no dots involved... Wink

Mastertronic has taken up my battle for me and has had contact with UBISoft about this. I am curious how this will turn out.

My mistake about the email. I do not like posting an email in a forum due to spamming. So try the JLennon and add the ubisoft.co.uk Razz

I've had this problem with many games that seem to use the same anti-copy scheme. My DVD-Rom drive is to blame, because it is not compatible with this scheme.
2 solutions:
1. Buy another DVD/CD-Rom drive (expensive and no way of knowing for sure that the replacement will work)
2. crack the game with a nocd crack (legal if you own the game and live in certain countries)

Installing a nocd crack always solved the problem for me. And yes, I do have the original discs of all these games.
Talking about making it hard for the paying customer to actually play his bought version.
Use google to find a site that offers them, since I think I am not allowed to post an url to one of these sites here (on my first try all characters in the url became stars)
With Might & Magic IX it resolved the problem.
Don't forget to update the game to (unofficial) 1.3 again after patching!

As much as i hate to admit it, and however wrong the solution offered by mister/miss vanderrhee feels... it works!!!
Am now playing the game, so the problem is prob really just some overzealous copy protection. Smile
No thanks to Ubi though, all thanks to you (and Mastertronic was trying to be helpful too, i must admit)!

I know how you feel, because I had al lot of reservation before I tried this the first time. But if you pay good money for a game where only some over-protective and broken copy protection is in place and you cannot return the game to the store, since it's from the bargain bin, then you are forced (IMHO) to take other steps.

The irony is that Ubi (most likely) added the copy protection, not the developers. And who is trying to be heplful? Roll Eyes
It's a crazy world Smile

I have still been chasing this problem with UBISOFT..I guess that I just do not have enough to do in my life Wink

I received an email from support today...

"To confirm I understand there had been a misunderstanding at Ubisoft, the Mastertronic technical support details had been wrongly included in the read me on the disc.

UBISOFT are responsible for supporting this title, although I believe the game was only circulated in Holland.

I apologise for the delay, it took a while to get to the bottom of it all.

If you need any further information please contact me again and I’ll be pleased to help.

Kind regards,

Jacqui Lennon

UK Support Manager."

It only took a few months...but then again...they did not offer a solution, they just admited that they support the game..

Wordt gevolgt!

my final update.

I have been just contacted by Michiel Verheijdt van ubisoft nl. Lots of excuses and so on.

They claim that they have pulled the game out of the stores in Holland but I know that I have still seen them in the Free Record Shop recently, they will check it out.

They no longer have store copies of the game so they offered to send copies or to replace it with Heros M&M 4 with expansion packs...so I am taking that offer.

It took a long while but finally some satisfaction!

Hi 2 all,

I am a real rpg-lover and might and magic was the second game (after zelda link to the past) I played on the Super Nintendo. Well, now after playing: Baldur's gate I and II, Arcanum, Lands of Lore I and II, neverwinter nights, anvil of dawn and playing the entire Might and Magic series (al but IX), I've stumbled upon might and magic IX.

It was cheap (5.99 euro)

It was the final chaper!!!!

It was all that I wanted... (Except 4 some beer, fried chicken wings and a handful of cannabis to join me in the trip to harmondale...)

It almost brought tears to my eyes...

So,

I,

Took the game and walked to the counter and said to the DIXON clerk:

"I want this one, PLEASE..."

So he gave it to me, I paid for it, took my bus ride home and plugged it into my pc and.

My pc:

Pentium IV
512 MB ram
Direct x 9
1 hard disk (NTFS) 10 GB
uhmm... what else should be important
Oh yeah NVIDIA 256mb graphical card

... It didn’t work.

I installed the patch (1.2)

... It didn’t work.

I updated it with patch 1.3

... It didn't work.

I got mad, screamed real loud (for about 40 seconds at three'o'(f#CK1NG)clock in the morning)

... it didn't work.

I calmed down, smoked some (currently legal) substance and decided to approach the problem more... well. EASY. I checked my CD ROM drive.

... It didn't work.

I took a really big breath and decided to explore the cd:

... I. d..n't w.rk.

I checked all that there was possible to check and even checked the cd for blisters but none of that...

Nothing worked so the next day I "BROUGHT" this beauty of a game back to "THE PLACE IT CAME FROM" and when I arrived at DIXONS (beverwijk, breestraat, ja mensen...) I decided I’d rather "SHOVE" it back up the pace mentioned above.

They would not give me a refund but gave me an other copy of the game.

So I took my cosy bus back home and...

He I Sit...

Wondering...

Why the f#ck it is always me who get's framed?

Anyway, before I commit suicide for all of this, could you please read the advertisement below?

Well

I got it just yesterday for 2,99 at the free record shop.

And it doesn't work here either. I can't find the no-cd patch you mentioned. Can you give us more details on where we can find one?

I also have the problem with Might and Magic IX. I also bought it here in the Netherlands, in a Bravo store (owned by Free Record Shop).

I tried the game on two computers:
- 1 Ghz AMD running W98 with a CD-RW and a DVD
- 400 Mhz Pentium II running ME and a CD-ROM

I guess I'll also email ubisoft.nl.
