I have a problem with might and magic 9. I have installed the game correctly, but when i push the play button the game gives an error while loading saying: "please insert the correct cd in your cd driver, and restart the game after clicking on ok" . But the correct cd is already in. I tried my friends cd but that didn't help. What can I do?
You need windows XP (or better, so try installing Linux )
No, but it's a problem with the CDROM drive. Windows XP's drivers are actually worse than 98's, but for some reason MMIX likes them better. Also, if you have texturing problems of any kind in the game, it's because the game is actually having problems with it's texturing pallete. Force mipmaps on it, and it's all fine.
If it still persists, you really should get a copy that isn't pirated, or you should try copying with "raw mode," which takes FOREVER but it's advantageous because it copies the disc VERBATIUM, bit for bit, unlike the others which put the disc through error correction coding (wich can help if the disc is scratched really bad) and ignores disc formatting (UDF &c.), which can actually defeat most copyguards (don't tell anyone I told you that though...)
Why does everyone assume that I am trying to play this on pirated software? I did buy my software in a store, The Free Record Shop in Amsterdam, and the software is provided by Ubisoft Exclusive from England!
It's just that if you didn't pay for it, you really shouldn't expect that much support. It's sort of taboo to get something for nothing; there's obviously something not right when you do.
MMIX is just a finiky game. I really, really would like to stress that if it isn't XP, you can't be sure, since I tried for a week to get it to work on 98 to no avail. Then, I put it on XP, and everything works. I have no explanation to tell you why, I only know it works.
I am in contact with the suplier from the game. It does go very slowly, about one email a week, but maybe getting some where. I think personaly that there has been some error in the creation of the CD's which would give the same results of illegal copys. I have tried mine on 2 pcs and get the same problem. I hope to hear for some soon from them.
But then again, I only paid about 8 euros for the game (sale price) so I am not going to get worried about this. But it would be nice to have it solved.
If it's any consolation, my disks work, and if I was guaranteed that none of the ISOs would be used for piracy, terrorism, or illegal activity, I could see my way into taking an ISO image of them and then spending the long hours it would take to upload them to a server for the benefit of those that have LEGALLY gotten copies of the game that are damaged.
I know, how weird is that? The Dark Lord Sauron offering to help a good cause... somedays I scare myself
Yeah. Your disk might be corrupted. The installer was unimpressive as well (it wasn't that well designed - I think it might have been a beta). Name the FTP server and I could upload ISOs of my disks for you if you want to try that, though I really would like to stress that it only worked for me when I upgraded to Windows XP.
I hate to be a bore, but alas.... same prob here. Original discs (ironically enough also bought from a branch of the Free Record Shop in the Netherlands), using windows xp, and try as I might, just get the same message over and over again... please insert etc etc. Tried to install, uninstall, mess around with compatibility modes and what not. All to no avail.
Anyone out there still has an idea what I can do with this, apart from throwing the game out that is
