but, i just wondering the same name of game still the same, maybe only version...

I damned love "Heroes of Might and Magic III : The Shadow of Death"....

Now, i'm using windows xp, because some reason,... i use winxp for public services
and almost programs need xp system.

How to make my lovely game running in xp system ???

and if must patch it, where to get the patch ???

3DO went out of business a few years back, they don't exist any more, try here for the patches.

... but HoMM III SoD should work under XP without any patching. I've been playing it this way for years. Maybe you could give us some more details about the problem. There IS a problem, right?

Personally, what I did to make my copy of Shadow of Death work on my Windows XP Pro machine was to first, install Shadow of Death. Then, I installed Armageddon's Blade over that. At that point, the game doesn't function, so I told Shadow of Death to install again, and that makes it function as if it were the base game with both expansions.

I also chose to patch my game to 3.1. I got my patch off Fileplanet Here, though I'm sure there are other places.

Unfortunately, my Heroes 3 occasionally gives me the "This program has encountered a problem and needs to close" error message, but if I start Heroes 3 back up and load the autosave, it virtually always allows me to continue that game as I had been.

I don't know, but when i open the main program it's says
error (sorry, no logs), and nothing happen (program not run).

I use P4, ASUS P4SE, 1GB DDRAM, 512mb VGA, 160GB hdd.
and finally using XP pro SP2 original

Where's the mistake ?

When i do patch any 3.1 or 3.2, the size of main program
become smaller and the version 0.0.0 ....

That's a... weird case, I don't know why the game won't start under XP. Still, you could try a thing or two.
First of all - reinstall the game - the old installers are evil ba$tardz (not that the new are much better), it won't be the first time when one of these guys messes the things up. After the reinstallation it may actually run, like, by accident...
Second, try to get it running via twicking the compatibility - right-click on the .exe icon -> compatibility -> try to start with all the options from Win 98 to Win XP (one by one of course - choose Win 98 for instance, save, try to run the game, if it doesn't work, choose Windows NT and so on).
Probably the upper options won't help, so it's time to take some... "illegal" action. Like donwloading a crack. Presumably something may be... well, "wrong" with the .exe file and thus one replacement will be in order.
Other than that, no bloody idea right now.

And by the way 3DO canceled all of their Might and Magic activities becouse they somewhat got canceled themselves. A bankruptcy, sad story.
