Agreed with Xenofex, again. As if profits just fall from the sky, like manna from Heaven... Roll Eyes

If the game is such a "failure" to you, sell it and don't play it. Ubi has received more than enough constructive criticism - whining about how much it "failed" is just superfluous at this stage.

How do you do this? You definately manage fill a sentence with absolutely nothing but meaningless words. It's not so rare a talent, but you seem to be indeed good at it.
So the devs are supposed to "please", beside the fans... who else? The American government? The Protoss? The noospheric universal consciousness? You, the omniscient? Roll Eyes
Or you mean these "hardcore fans" of yours, which, I assure you, are almost as fictitious as your claims that HoMM V has failed commercially. Such dedicated fanboys are neglectable minority and in many of the cases HoMM V is their first game of the series. I consider myself something like a "hardcore fan" and I have criticized the game more than you'll ever do (and I still do it btw). And it's not just me.
Try to get used to the impartiality, if possible.

When I said pleased the fans, I was referring to the active fans posting on the forums. Which does not represent a good portion of the TBS player community.

So when heroes came out many fans were happy and saying how this heroes is great, but on the other hand, the critics were not so satisfied... And than some time later the world forgot heroes.

Of course the Heroes V is a great success for the majority of the people posting here. Is that what you call impartiality ?

Is there another JJ posting here? I don't see any necessity to post at all, at least for a week or so, since there are enough posters in this thread I perfectly agree with and don't see any reason to repeat what they are so eloquently writing.
I'm probably missing something here. *shrug*

I think it failed because its to slow and cumbersome. And also there is not much for retro fans, everything is reworked. The cartoony feel doesnt fit in either in my opinion.

I myself would love to have a heroes 4 engine with factions set up like in heroes 3. In heroes 5 everything makes so much sense, like you can imagine how goblins and orcs live together while in 3 you could see nagas at the side of wizards and factions with only monsters.

Goodness - it didnae fail. If, for any remote reason it did not make the same number of sales as previous versions in previous years, then clearly the reason is because there is an absence of farting gnomes. God how I miss 'em!

I don't think it failed at all. From the standpoint of a fan who has played all the games I rather enjoyed it. Heck, If they gave me another expansion I'd buy that to.

(Was it perfect? Ofcourse not but that's neither here nor there)

From a comercial standpoint If it's exceeded over 2 million sales that's pretty good. Good enough to consider Hero's 6!

Indeed, and so far the ones who said it has failed seem more of the "I wanted a heroes 3/4 remake and not something new!" As said it sold at least 2 million copies as far as i understood, plus a game that gets 2 expansions must have sold something. Funny thing is Ubisoft doesn't even mention this, but that is a topic for discussion in a thread i have going in the tavern.

It didn't fail. It did quite nicely. Just an average game.

Compared to how high the bar was raised by H2/3, it did fail. If you consider it just as a TBS then it did ok. At any rate I just think Nival wasn't up to the task (few companies would be imo).

I would disagree that HOMM5 failed as a game.

Some balance issues need addressed but game is pretty good. I thik enough fans agreed that it is good game to make 2 expansions profitable so HOMM5 can't be said to have failed commercially or as game IMHO.

I think the customer service is abismal. It seem after Fabrice was not made producer of Tribes company decided not to communicated with fans. Promise of patch was long time ago.

Agree. The game itself would have been more than good if it was polished a bit more, but so would most games now at days.- Oblivion, Gothic III... Games which are good but just lack that final touch.

For me though, the main problem was the horrendous storyline which was screaming cliche, re-used compost, bad writing and horrible, horrible voice acting all the way through. In the original game at least this was so bad that it totally put me off the game. It was impossible to get immersed in any way, impossible to believe the storyline and impossible to feel as though you were the hero like I did in all the old Heroes games - yes, even IV where Gauldoth Half Dead was a classic and the others were well above average.

Now that I have gotten some time again (just 3 more exams and then I will work for a year before going onwards to an university) I will give the expansions a try and see if I can force myself to get through the campaigns, even though they just felt artificial. If the expansions can redeem the game a bit then I will be active and, hopefully, testing again once HoMM VI gets to that stage. If not then I'll just stay with the old games and otherwise live in the "real world".

- One thing which really would get me active and swinging from tree to tree again though, would be if Ubisoft decided to do Might and Magic X Smile

School is over... One year of freedom and after that it's Uni. 7 years of Uni and then work. 40 years of slavery which culminates in freedom... A few years of forgotten freedom, hidden away from the public eye and then death.- Only God knows what will happen after that.

I don't think it failed, but Heroes5 v1.0 was definitely a rushed product. I mean it was readily apparent, with some artifacts not even having descriptions on them, lots of stuff unexplained, etc. The gameplay was there, but it was being clouded by all the unfinished stuff. I think it is a fantastic game with Tribes of the East, it was made much better with the patches and Hammers of Fate as well. The problem is that a lot of the features eventually added should have been there from the start. If Heroes5 v1.0 released with everything in Heroes5 v1.6, I think people would bitch a bit less. There are some quirks that are annoying, like computer turns taking forever at times (with framerate going into the tank), the expansions raising the requirements a ton (often needlessly imo), computer difficulties uneven, etc. but in my opinion its got the best gameplay of all of them and the skill system and such is fantastic. So hopefully, when the inevtiable sixth installment arrives, it is not rushed out the door like heroes5.

Also note that I don't care at all about the campaign, I only play skirmish/custom game in all the Heroes games.

The only reason I do not like the game right now is that I am unable to edit the maps made by Ubisoft. I don't care about creating maps, that's boring to me, I just want to edit them, add random islands in them, beef up resources etc.

Does anyone have any knowledge of any way to edit maps that came with the game instead of just creating them?

(Frustrated)
