I've been a heroes fan for many years now and I'm just wondering if anyone else feels a little disapointed with the direction heroes went?

Not disappointed with where it went, I think it couldn't have gone many other places. Disappointed with how it was done? Yes, definately.

Direction? What direction? I thought HoMM was something lost in the waves of time, like a pterodactyl with a gun. Even if HoMM5 would have been the best HoMM game ever, such TBS style is obsolete and totally unprepared for a world dominated by online mode. TBS is cool and I like it, but Christ… I can play a whole 4vs4 SoulStorm match by the time my enemy ends its turn in HoMM5. That’s just wrong…

Yeah, but most of us have left the forums some time ago. No real point in hanging around when about half the oldtimers like it and it has dragged all these new folks in here. That makes it a success in in Ubi's eyes, so what can we do?

The new Settlers game is pencilled in for a late August release in Germany and as yet there is no official statement about localised versions in English, French, Spanish or Italian. If you wish to play Settlers in one of these languages, this is where you can make it happen: Settlers Campaign

No. I like idea of towns centered more on races and altenates were good idea. I also like skill tree.

Thing that disappoint me is some balance issues with spells and creatures that need addressed. But Ubisoft abandon official forum and seem to abandon promised patch to fix issues.

When is last time any company official post on the forum? Very long time. If I reacall Fabrice did not produce TOTE but someone else was producer. New producer have made no comment anywheres that I am aware of.

Well i think it was in october with the latest patch for HoMM5 that we saw anyone from ubisoft, as far as i am aware they are off in other areas, trying to get fans there.. and then abandon them i assume.

I'm disappointed that some things like AI, engine optimization, and the map editor were just thrown out there in a manner that was "just good enough" to prevent a widespread revolt.

I think UBI/Nival did a passable job at the things that they prioritized but the things that they didn't consider a priority just got slopped on.

I suppose I'm a newcomer to forums...but I started playing heroes just before heroes 2 came out.

So as a semi old timer I prefer the direction of heroes 5 to the branch of heroes 4.

But to tell the truth I've been having the most fun with the original King's Bounty in anticipation of the upcoming one.

So no, I'm not disappointed.

I enjoyed Homm5 but never got into it as much as 3 or even 4 for that matter. Whilst I do think 5 is a good game, I'm dissapointed in its loss of epic quest feeling from 4's fantastic stories/campaigns, and loss of the magic story feel in 3's maps. Hell, even the music in 5 wasn't as epic and mood-swaying as it was in 3 or 4, and music plays a large role in the atmosphere of games that have long turns.

Was it a bad game? Not at all, did it lose many of the charms the rest of the series had? Sadly, certainly.

(@Rei-V) A fair assessment though I felt some of the campaign missions had interesting scripting.

Were you ever able to try out the LOTA campaigns? Basically it's old school mm in hv.

Do you know whether the lota-campaigns can be played in Tribes of the East?

Yeah sorry, it's for hammers of fate.

The new books will be for Tribes though.

I think it's really good with just some things that get under my skin:

* The AI is slow and dumb. It leaves resources and artifacts behind. On larger maps it's also ridiculously slow.

* The Random Map generator is half-done. We can't use teams properly. And why aren't team settings totally optional anyway, I might want to play 1 vs 5 for that matter. I used to be able to edit this in the Map Editor but now not that doesn't work either, I get some weird bug where, if I set 2 vs 2 on a 6 town map, I get 4 vs 1 vs 1...

Actually many still like TBS games, HoMM5 is a very good game and definetly shouldn't be real time. The turns could be sped up a little, but even that isn't all that important IMO, better to make it more stable.

The only part of the H-V direction I was not disappointed in other than graphics, was the fact it held to the TBS tradition. If it changes that then stick a fork in it.
