I just purchased ToE and am slowly playing through the original HOMM V campaign. I finished the Necromancer campaign and started playing as a necromancer on randomly generated skirmish maps.

I'm playing the Hero who starts with the first aid tent and the ability that improves its healing. I grab Plague Tent when it's offered.

I have noticed that in some combats the first aid tent just disappears after a few uses. It just stops showing up in the action order (even if I cycle through the order several times)

Is this a bug, or the result of an action of the enemy hero, or does the tent have only so many "shots" without the ammo cart, or???

With this hero the first aid tent makes the difference between victory and defeat. I would appreciate any info you can give me.

Thanks.

It has 3 shots only. While it would be overpowered for creeping if it had more I wish it would get more shots at a higher hero level.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize there was a limit on plague tent "shots".

Does this mean that when the "shot" limit is reached the tent can no longer heal as well?

Yes, three shots is the limit believe it or not. If you use the plague tent first, that means only two heals left.
There is a mod which will allow 10 or even 100 uses if you want to use it. I do.

Meh with 10 shots it is totally overpowered for creeping. You could clear almost everything with no losses.

Then I guess you didn't care for any of the previous HOMM games because they did not have this limitation.

There was a plague tent before HOMM5? Why was I not informed of this?

I don't really remember it resurrecting either but I might be wrong.

Elementalist the point (which I think you know) is that it doesn't scale properly in the late stage of the game.

Of course I do, we've talked about this. And of course I know the previous titles, it was mostly a waste in H3.

You aren't. The first aid tent, along with its skill, was indeed useless before HoMM V. Now it's similarly useless in the late game, though it does what it's supposed to during the first 3-4 weeks.
Bah, without "Flaming Arrows" or specialized hero for the balista, the entire War Machines skill is once again a waste of skill slot for a game longer than 2 months.

Why even have it at all then? It starts out pathetic in the early game as it heals 10 whopping points and cannot resurrect. By the time you can achieve the tent skill and expert war machines, it is under-powered considering the troop numbers you will have at this point. Giving it 10 uses makes it at least a reasonable choice. Compare to selecting ballista and doing something like 1000 damage (3 shots).
I can see how you might not need a powerful FAT if you play easy factions like Academy, Haven or Necro and you can resurrect and summon at will to win easily.
