I'm not sure i fully understand this patch. by default, flaming cliffs upgrades my lock-on to 1.1. does that mean that the 1.12 upgrade is applied on top of lock on? or does it simply install the original 1.02 files? sorry if this sounds dumb

Its cool, you can install 1.12 over 1.1 or 1.11. btw, the new patch is called 1.12a which can be installed over 1.1, 1.11, or 1.12.
