Hi All, I have noticed a lot of people on and off these forums having the same issue with the 6600 and 6600GT cards, this has fixed the problem for many 90% of them..

Graphics problems with nVidia GeForce 6600 / 6600GT errors are known in farcry. If you are having errors which look something like this...

or this..

Then hopefully this will solve the problem :

Go to:
Start->control panel (might wanna change control panel to classic view)->display->settings->advanced->troubleshooting->> bellow the hardware acceleration slider there is a box you have to untick, it should be something like activate combined writting, im not sure because my XP version is not english but should be something like that. Just unselect this little box and apply the changes. Now it should ask you to reboot the PC, reboot the PC..

If this does not work, or effects other games in a negative way, then simply reverse the process and it will be back to the way it was.

This also helps prevent the loop error that can be caused by ANY video card. You will degrade performance a tad (300ish 3dMark points for me). The infinite loop error normally causes auto-restart or for the graphics/sound to freeze on the screen. If any keyboard/mouse or other input beside your case reset button function you do not have the loop error. It does not stop all loop errors though Frown

And this does not work?

If not, try lowering your graphics settings to medium or low, see if it still happens

This does not seem to help my problem, which is what ALOT of other people are having. Our problem is oddly colored textures that are black or dark blue and problems with displaying water on a higher setting than low. Even on very high, the water is as if it was set to low.

My other specs are a 2.66 ghz processor and 1g ram. I play half life 2/oblivion on high no problem with my 6600gt and have the latest drivers.

A few other people have simular posts that are using NVidia graphics cards. I am running a ATI X1950 crossfire set up with Catalyst 7.1 and have the same problem so it's not only an NVidia driver problem. I had the graphics problem with the older drivers and upgrading the drivers to Catalyst 7.1 didn't work. The game worked for three days then all of a sudden the graphics problem started. Besides the graphics tear, the sky turned pink and the guy on the game menu screens had blue skin. My CPU and GPUs are watercooled and not overclocked. Running the game with the lowest graphics settings doesn't fix the problem. I played the game with the highest graphics settings for 3 days before this problem started happening all of a sudden. When I tried fear and some other games I had installed on my computer the textures and boxes that indication the weapon is use were also messed up. I never had any problems before I installed Far Cry. I uninstalled Far Cry 1.4 and my other games started working properly again. I only paid $9.99 to download Far Cry so it's pretty safe to say that the software company isn't going invest anything to fix the problem which is to bad because its an old game which people still have an interest in.

Ok, I've got a "fix" for those of us using x1950 cards (I've got an x1950 Pro).

The problem is with the game's "Lighting" option.

If you choose the "Low" setting, everything should be fine.

Anything more than that, and I get horrible graphical tearing when in outside environments.

I have everything else turned up to "Very High" now with no problems.

Good Luck!

I've been suffering (and suffering is the right word) with these issues. A large black square following me around and occasional blue blocks on the landscape; these issues always occur outside and completely ruin immersion. I have a EN6600 Silent btw. Anyway, thought I would try reducing the light quality as mentioned above to LOW and hey presto it worked. I then started to crank it back up again and guess what, I am now playing at the highest setting with no problem. wtf? Can anyone explain this?

well one thing you could try is to update your driver.
goto www.tweaksrus.com and get the latest wti driver. that should work.

and i have to tell you i have a 6600 card and i have no problems with the graphics at all. if someone does it is because of the driver that they have installed.
either they didn't install them properly or they didn't uninstall the old drivers properly.
as for the online graphical errors i wouldn't know because ubisoft won't let me play online.
i keep getting the infamous key in use error.
i have had this game since i have bought it and cannot play online.
which is a bit disappointing because you pay for an online game you should beable to play online.
i took the game back to where i bought it and exchanged it and i put in that key and it said the samething.
so i kind of gave up on the whole online play with farcry.
