Like many people I've found online; I cannot get past the splash screen to start the game. It flashes up for about 10 seconds and then disappears with no error messages. I've been trying to deal with Ubisoft's lack of support for a week now and they finally just closed my ticket saying it was solved even though it's not.
Anyway, I'm hoping someone can help me get this game running so I didn't just waste $50. I have the retail DVD version and here are my system specs: • ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 Motherboard • Intel Core i7 Extreme 965 Nehalem 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor • Zalman CNPS9900 LED Cooler • OCZ DDR3 PC3-16000 Platinum Series Low-Voltage Triple Channel Memory (12GB’s) • ASUS Radeon HD 4870 X2 Tri-Fan PCI Express x16 Video Card • PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1,200 Watt ESA Power Supply • Soundblaster PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series Sound Card • WD VelociRaptor 300GB 10,000 RPM SATA Hard Drive • LG GGW-H20L Blu-Ray Burner • Plextor PX-820A DVD Burner • Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 64 bit I’ve tried just about everything I can think of including the following: •Tried game on 3 different hard drives including the default location on C: •Game auto updated to version 1.03 each time. •Disabled onboard audio in BIOS. •Disabled onboard audio drivers in Device Manager. •Uninstalled ASUS onboard audio software (SoundMax). •Tried ATI Catalyst 64 bit Vista driver versions 9.7, 9.8 & now 9.9. •Performed “Selective Startup” via msconfig to limit almost everything loading. •Tried game directly from DVD, .exe file in game folder & shortcut. •Updated Soundblaster sound card drivers. •Uninstalled & reinstalled game several times. •Ran DxDiag with no errors. •Verified latest version of DirectX. •Performed all Vista 64 bit Ultimate updates. Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated. This is the only game I cannot get to run and it’s driving me insane. Thanks! |

1st off, who in the world had the cajones to charge you 50$ still? As far as I knew, this gam hit the 30$ mark some time ago, and I just grabbed a 3rd copy off Steam for 20$. (needed 20 more map slots, 1 buck a slot
Anyway, I have the same issue when I plug my lappy into a big screen LCD TV. I set the resolution to low ones (varies, but 600x800 and 1024x768 are the two most common) Ok, so when I go back to just using the lappy monitor, it does exactly that. I cannot load the game unless I change it back before I unplug the hdmi cable. Once I was toatlly screwed, i had it so that neither would work because I tried to fix it by messing with my desktop resolution. I had to get my gamerprofile XML file from the Deskop and replace the file. (That file holds your settings as well as username etc) I would suggest trying different desktop resolutions 1st, or possible a different monitor. It may very well not be the problem, but it sure is with my laptop. It just does not like certain combinations of screen resolutions. * I do this to get a larger screen size obviously, and better performance when I play on the laptop. 600x800 is a tiny box on my laptop screen, but when i run it to a 42" LCD it becomes much larger and fills about 2/3 of the screen. Then I zoom into Cinema view and have a poor old laptop running 42" of fc2. |

Agent00Kevin,
I actually purchased the game 6 months ago and had to go out of town for a few months as soon as I got it. Then, I decided I didn't want to play it until I built my new system so I could run it maxed out in DirecX 10. I can't adjust the resolution in the game because I've never actually successfully started the game so I don't have a GamerProfile.XML file yet. I tried running the Benchmark, but it won't run because it errors out with "Can't find GamerProfile.XML file". It's frustrating to say the least and I even tried to run the game in Windows XP Compatibility mode which also didn't work. I appreciate the suggestions though! I'll try a different monitor tomorrow when I can get my hands on one. |

Re-install the game ?
That .xml is an important file. |

I tried about 10 different desktop resolutions and another monitor. This game has thoroughly kicked my *** and I may just have to throw in the towel until I upgrade to Windows 7. I don't know if that will help since it's probably just a glorified version of Vista, but it's worth a shot.
I'm about out of ideas for things to try. I appreciate the suggestions. It's pretty sad that Ubisoft doesn't give a crap about paying customers. I'll never buy another one of their games as long as I live. |

Agent00Kevin,
I appreciate all of your help Man. You were 10 times more helpful than Ubisoft's clueless Tech Support. If I ever get it to run, I'll definitely let you know what it was. It's time for a little "Crysis: Warhead"! |

Have you tried running it in safe mode?

I had Vista 64 and had the same problem as you. The easy fix is to just find and delete your GamerProfile.xml file. The file will be rebuilt when you re-start your game.
I don't know why this fix is not in a sticky because it's such a common problem for 64 bit users. |

Agent00Kevin,
I have tried Compatibility Mode and running it as Administrator. The first thing I did with Vista when I built my system was disable UAC so I've tried that too. All good suggestions though so thanks for the reminder. Mangs607, Yes, I have tried Safe Mode. I forgot to add that to my list when I created this Post. I appreciate the suggestion. oildalemonkey, My problem is a little different because I don't actually have a GamerProfile.xml file. I'm assuming the game has to run at least once to create that file. I've installed the game several times on 3 different hard drives and I've never had that file created. I wonder if it would work if I could obtain someone's GamerProfile.xml file and then modify it with my info as long as I've installed my game to the same location. I guess it couldn't hurt to try right? |

I'm going to move this over to the Far Cry Technical Community Help Forum.

I've seen a thread in these forums before with others who've had the same problem of not being able to get past the splash screen. Some have used Alt+Enter right after the splash screen comes up to fix it. You may or may not have to click on the game's button on the taskbar before you press the keys, not sure. Worth trying though.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I got it working. big_long had a post about the exact same thing and I also had to uninstall the ASUS GamerOSD software. Far Cry 2 fired up without a problem and I'm finally in business. After 2 weeks of pain fighting this problem, it's finally time to play.
Thanks again for all of the suggestions. Ubisoft, you may want to add this to your FAQ's for anyone who has an ASUS motherboard and may have installed that software. It would have saved me a lot of headaches. |

Thank you for the Gamer OSD head's up. Nothing on Ubisoft or ASUS sites!

keithtq,
I just wish these game developers would listen and respond. They do neither and then wonder why they lose the people out there who actually pay for their games. I'm tired of it myself and I doubt I'll ever buy another Ubisoft game because of it. If it weren't for the great people on these forums; I wouldn't be playing this game! |
