****Alert to Ubisoft Mods**********************
I tried to post this in the ubisoft support webpage. It will not allow me to log in when I click on Ask question. It gives me the following error. The site encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later or contact us if the problem persists. I have tried doing this on Firefox 3.5.3 and Internet explorer 8. Please advise. *********************************************** I am currently trying to play Farcry 2 v1.03 on Windows 7 RTM 64-bit. I have a Nvidia Geforce GTX 260 running the newest 190.62 drivers. I can play the game without issues running at basically max settings except 4x AA. I run it in DX10 and limited the framerate to 30. It runs great. But randomly it crashes to windows and windows shows the following error. "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 190.62 stopped responding and has successfully recovered." Normally one would think this is a video driver problem. However, I have tried completely reinstalling the video driver. I am have tried completely reinstalling farcry and repatching to 1.03. It crashes randomly ... doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reaosn for the problem. I was going to submit this to ubisoft tech support ... but I can't get it to let me log in after I created a user support login. Hopefully, someone can help me figure this out ... I like this game ... but this is ruining it for me. This message has been edited. Last edited by: spidertaker23, |

All tech support will tell you is that FC2 was not tested for W7. What process are you using to remove/install gpu drivers?
Give this link a read. It may give you some information on how to remove/install drivers for your gpu. What temperature is your gpu getting up to? Do you have the cooling fan set to 80% output or higher? |

Kinda bs that support would say windows 7 isn't supported and they haven't tested it on windows 7 considering that it comes out at the end of this month he he.
I just reinstalled my video drivers last night. I did not do the part driversweeper part of the guide. So tonight I will reinstall my video drivers and do the driversweeper part as well. As for the gpu temp and fan % ... how do I go about checking/changing that? I shouldn't have an airflow problem ... considering my computer is in a nzxt rogue case with 5 120mm fans lol. |

Get this to see temps and raise the fan output level.
If EVGA Precision wont work for you then there is always Rivatuner Get this to monitor all temps. This message has been edited. Last edited by: TAW_BigPaPa, |

Read post #17 of my issue with 200 series cards. Ubi tech support told me that FC2 was not supported on the 200 series cards. Personally I think FC2 doesn’t play well with the PhysX driver that is embedded with the gpu driver. I run 2-8800 Ultras in SLI on my 780i machine. With any driver that has the PhysX driver included it will blue screen given time while playing FC2. I went back to good ole 175.16 and no more issues. 175.16 does not have the PhysX driver included. |

I installed the evga software and at idle my fan speed is set to auto and it puts it at 40. Temp at idle is 49.
I will check it in game when I get home tonight. As far as them not working right with physx ... or not supporting the gtx 200 line of cards. That is ludicrous. This game didn't come out that long ago. Ubisoft seriously needs to step it up and release some patches for this game. I'm starting to wondering why I bother trying to play games on my pc instead of my xbox 360. *sigh* I can't install old drivers ... because without physx support I mirror's edge would suck he he. |

Strange, I own the BFG GeForce GTX 285 OCX card, and never faced any issues with Far Cry 2 whatsoever. I have the latest drivers installed. Actually FC2 doesn't 'properly' support SLI mode. And I don't recommend playing games in SLI/Crossfire etc. But anyhow, Nice rig there TAW_BigPaPa.
@spidertaker23, Why not go for WIN XP (32 bit), if you really wanna enjoy hassle-free gaming ? It's gonna take long for WIN 7 platform to get stable. I highly recommend using WIN XP for gaming. This message has been edited. Last edited by: KingDaniel0, |

Thanks for the suggestion, but yea it's hard to use windows xp for gaming when you have 8gb of ram in your computer. Windows xp 64 is a complete failure.
Windows 7 is a wonderfully stable platform. But video game makers and hardware vendors are being their usual slow dumb self and making sure it works with the os. The os comes out at the end of this month. Seriously. Windows 7 is the best windows os to come out since windows xp first came out like almost 8 years ago. |

Nah !, I don't think XP 64 bit is that bad. At least it's better than VISTA. I have played Far Cry 2 on my 64 bit OS version of XP, and it ran fine. Never faced any issues, Honestly !
And don't bother much about the 'extra memory' usage, even IF you plan to play games on 32 bit Win XP. The 32 bit address bus 'limitations' are not much noticeable, and don't create any bottleneck while gaming. And many High-end games don't require more than 3/3.5 GB of memory, TBH. That much memory should be enough to run them, at all settings maxed. I have no idea about Windows 7. Maybe it's good, but it's going to take long for games/drivers to be fully 'compatible' on this platform. But I hope it's a nice OS, and we can see a change here. Cheers. |

I hate windows xp 64 for a couple reasons. Driver support for it has always been pretty terrible. Microsoft even hates it he he. They didn't make a version of their new antivirus software Microsoft Security Essentials that supports Windows XP 64bit lol.
But anyways. I am going to test it out more tonight. Didn't have time last night. Maybe I should try compatibility modes ... and stuff like that...? |

Lol. When did Microsoft start hating their own products ? Anyhow, let's forget about that.
You can try running the game in 'Windows XP compatibility mode', but it's not necessary. Good Luck. |

Was this fixed? |

I updated basically every driver for my system to the newest windows 7 driver for it. I just updated to the newest released nvidia driver for windows 7 64 bit 191.07. When installed the display driver I uninstalled it ... booted into safe mode ... ran driver sweeper ... then installed the newest driver.
I even updated to the newest bios available for my motherboard. I ran farcry 2 for about 45 minutes or so ... and it still crashed with the same error. ahhhh. I will try compatibility mode. I imagine I can't use windows xp compatibility mode if I want to use directx 10. Sigh. |

Hi, Well I still think your problem 'should' be related to Win 7. Even I have the latest 191.07 drivers, and I played/tested FAR CRY 2 on both the versions of my Win XP (32 and 64 bit) for almost 4 hours, and I didn't experience any crashes at all.
And Btw forget about whether you used Driver Sweeper or any other method to uninstall/install drivers. That doesn't make any difference. Actually I told you to try the Compatibility mode option under 64 bit Win XP if you can, not windows 7. But there should be a similar option under 64 bit windows 7 ? Check this link for any info or help: http://www.sevenforums.com/tut...patibility-mode.html Also try this trick. Go to the saved profile location of FAR CRY 2 e.g. My Documents > My Games > Far Cry 2, and edit/open the file called GamerProfile.xml, and change the value of the attribute Platform=" " to d3d9, and see if this makes any difference or not ? Your current value should be d3d10/11 or d3d10a. You can open the GamerProfile.xml file with any text editor. But I'm NOT sure this trick will work or solve your problem, but just give it a try if you can. Cheers. |

Well I will give those tips a try. Thanks for you help. Hopefully something will work.
Will that second tip bring me down to directx 9? Is that the same thing as changing it to directx 9 in the game settings? Hopefully Ubisoft will release a patch that fixes compatibility with windows 7. I don't have a way of using windows xp. This is my only desktop gaming pc and I have alot of data on it and both my wife and I use it on a regular basis. I'm sure it probably works fine on windows xp and vista. It is probably a weird windows 7 problem. I think I am going to try playing crysis for awhile and make sure that game doesn't crash too. |

|
|
Yes, that option should force the game to use DX9. But not sure if it's gonna work properly.
Again we don't know whether your problem is actually related to Windows 7 or not. Maybe it's a FAR CRY 2 specific problem , and not OS related ? Can't say exactly. Try playing Crysis and check it's performance. That should give you an idea about the OS (Win 7) also. |
|||
|
Well I haven't tried directx 9 yet.
But, I did try playing crysis. I played crysis for 4 hours without a single freeze or crash. So it is obviously Facry 2. It seems like it is some sort of memory leak. I suppose I can try directx 9 and verify that it is a directx 10 memory leak with farcry 2. That would explain why people playing this on windows xp are not having this problem. I really don't want to have to play this on directx 9. But, I guess if I have no choice I will. I will try directx 9 tonight. I also tried this: 1) start the game 2) alt-tab to the desktop from the menu screen 3) cntrl-alt-del to bring up the task manager 4) find the farcry2.exe process and right-click 5) select set affinity 6) deselect two processors (I have a quad core, so that leaves two checked) 7) right click farcry2.exe again and set the priority to high 8) go back into the game and give it a shot This didn't work for me. Instead after about 30minutes or so instead of the game crashing to the desktop ... it made the screen go black ... the video was gone ... but the audio kept playing. I had to crash the game manually. Ugh ... if this game wasn't so fun I wouldn't mess with it. |

I was finally able to ask a support question on Ubisoft's support site.
So hopefully Ubisoft will respond with some sort of solution. I hope they don't say "windows 7 is not support." Since the operating system is now out. This game isn't that old and I don't think it is Windows 7's fault. Now to play the waiting game. Hopefully Ubisoft or this community can figure out the problem. I think there is a random memory leak. |

Wow what a bunch of ****!
This is the response I got from Ubisoft. Subject --------------------------------------------------------------- I am currently trying to play Farcry 2 v1.03 on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit I... Discussion Thread --------------------------------------------------------------- Response (Jason) - 10/26/2009 06:00 PM Ryan, Unfortunately, this game is not supported for use on Windows 7. First, please make sure that you have the latest drivers installed for your video and sound card. Most problems with Windows 7 are related to using outdated hardware drivers. You may be able to reun the game in compatability mode, but the only other recommendation that we could make for you would be to install and play the game on a computer that meets the requirements listed on the bottom of the game's box. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. Wow totally unhelpful. Since I have already tried these suggestions. I guess I can try compatibility mode again. I can't believe Ubisoft isn't going to support Windows 7 on a game that is not much older than a year. What terrible support. |
