They seem to have pulled the plug on it at the moment, they must be trying to sort some things out.

"All downloaded files which have not been activated are going to be made inactive through the ubi.com login. Previously, the ubi.com login would require a US country in order to install the game. Ubisoft will make the ubi.com login reject all entries into country. They hope to relaunch the program once we can add IP-blocking into our login process." -

This means cheaters/hackers/modders from before are able to access multiplayer. They are adding IP blocking for those in non U.S. countries.

Thank you for downloading one of the promotional PC titles made available for ad-supported freeplay over the Labor Day weekend. The promotion is now closed and it is no longer possible to play the games for free.

If you are interested in further information on these titles, please visit our official website at www.ubi.com

No where did it state that this was a labor day trial. Did you idiots really think anyone would download a three day trial so you could make ad revenue? Not to mention by the time this three day download was complete it was already too late, you just tricked thousands of users into making you millions, and now you are going to do it again since your experiment was successful. I have loved your past titles but this is your biggest screw-up to date, I will no longer buy Ubisoft products, I don't like being treated like a tool (not to mention your terrible support and lack of respect for people who actually buy your products).

I can't even install the game. So how am I supposed to play it on single player???
I'm not downloading it again. I installed it, had problems, and was told to reinstall it, and now I can't even play it.

Wow, do you really think any money wasn't involved? Yeah, ad revenue, they claimed that it was completely free so that thousands more would download it, thus making them more money. They just tricked thousands of people, but I suppose it's not our money, it's just our time. But hey, I would love to get a job wasting a couple of days downloading a videogame so that a company could make money after they lied, sounds like fun, except dishonest companies don't deserve my money, but it doesn't matter because I gave them some profit when I downloaded this and also showed them that this is a very successful way to make profit off of being deceptive. Oh well, I guess some people like being treated like tools, so guys, expect more of this to come from every company since people obviously don't care about being lied to, as long as it's just a huge multi-million dollar company and not an individual.

How on earth do you give them profit just by downloading the game for free, Confused you'd have to buy something in the ads for any money to change hands and even then nobody would make a profit if their extra sales didn't exceed the costs.

Well, they sure went to a hell of a lot of trouble to recode these games to run ads in them. I seriously doubt they went to all of that effort for a measly three-day run.

More than likely, they ran into complications that they weren't expecting, and the "Labor Day Weekend Only" excuse was better than saying "Ooops! We screwed up! Never mind!"

That idea makes a lot of sense in my book, big companies don't like the idea of saying "sorry, we made a mess of things". Hammer
Maybe they'll release the games again when they've got their act together, I wonder what excuse they'll come out with then if things go wrong again. Roll Eyes

Do you know how television networks make money off of their programs? Ad revenue. It doesn't matter if three people bought a Big Mac over this bull ****, Ubisoft was still paid to have the ads in their games in the first place, on top of that, they also brought life back into older titles (which a few hundred people will probably decide to buy after the taste test).

Edit:
And of course they were monitoring the number of new members joining Ubisoft.com to see how successful this was (also known as the number of people who are going to actually see these ads). It's not up to Ubisoft to make sure people buy the products, it's just up to them to deliver the advertisement, it has nothing to do with how many hamburgers and eye drops are sold. Who knows, maybe next round they will demand double from Mc****les and Ben Stein.
