Played for a few hours then went into map editor, made new map, then next day FC2 would not get past the first load screen then crash. So uninstall/ reinstall worked, hours of play later I defraged my computer, then FC2 had same problem, can not play it at all. Original disc is still in the DVD drive.?

Do you get a BSOD after the splash screen shows up?

I have the same problem. FC2 crashes at loading.
It says "Far Cry has stopped".
"Windows...blah...blah...****"
What is the problem? Yesterday I have played the damn thing. Please if you know what might be the problem inform us, because I have installed the newest DX so DX is not the problem for sure.
Thanks.

Same problem here.

I managed to play the game for about three hours, then the next day whenever i try to start or load a game, it stays loading ... just loading. I updated my drivers + DirectX10, tried to re-install the game, even formatted my HDD, nothing seems to work: it just keeps loading.

Had the game since Friday, first it was the securom bug and now it's the crash when it starts to load. I found my ONLY solution today - Go out and buy FALLOUT 3. It works. Big Grin

Then why mention Direct X 10 in your original post?

DX10 is in VISTA only, XP CANNOT/DOES NOT RUN DX10.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, good luck.

Btw: I would recommend a Athlon X2 6000+, or 6400+.
If you want more than two cores, go with a Quad instead of Triple, because of the faulty core in the AMD's TripleCores, some programs are not compatible.

Then can you explain me why Far Cry 2 automatically updates DirectX 9.0c to 10?
Kthx

Jeez have u actually read the release notes for that?

It's an ALPHA release (very buggy) & not officially supported by Microsoft, sweet jeezuz no wonder you're having the problems you are by throwing unsupported/untested software into your rig.

Quote:
Download DirectX 10 for windows XP is available now. This DirectX 10 for windows XP still in alpha stages and isn't the original of DirectX 10 files from Microsoft. As Microsoft has announced that the DirectX 10 currently support to Windows Vista only.

I'll say it again, a little knowledge IS A DANGEROUS THING.

In my first post, I said that I managed to play the game using DX10 before this happenned. This problem happens only during the loading sequence; the logo keeps spinning forever and the game does not start.

What part of XP Does not support DX10 don't you understand?

Reinstall FC2 & try again, update drivers to 180.43, beyond that you're on your own, good luck.

DX10's build number is 6.00.6001.18000, not 4.10. 4.10 is DX9. You must be using some DX9 on XP software... all that stuff does is make DXDiag say that you have DX10. It doesn't even change the build number to the right thing. DX10 uses WDDM, which vista has. You can't port WDDM to XP without turning it into Vista, and the driver model is different anyways. It is 100% impossible to port DX9 to XP.

I have the same problem, it goes away when I disable my Trust soundcard (which uses the CMedia CMI8738 chipset found on many motherboards).

I have an Intel E8500 and nvidia geforce 8800 GTS graphics on Windows XP. I can't play this in silence!!
