I recently installed Far Cry on a new machine I built about 2 months ago (see specs below). Had no problems running the game - albeit on seriously low settings - on my five-year old machine that was replaced by the new build. However, after updating to the v1.4 patch, I discovered that the game would take a huge amount of time to load. Like 10 minutes or more. Same with levels.

I found out that this may be an artifact of the game not totally supporting dual core procs, and that there were small file apps one could download to make the dual core behave like a single core. But these have all been in reference to AMD procs, and I am running an Intel.

Are there similar fixes available for Intel procs? Or will the same AMD fix work just as well?

This is a big bummer, as I built the new rig before I completed playing Far Cry on the old machine. I have since played and finished Far Cry 2 (to my utter enjoyment!), so I'd really like to close the loop on the original.

Thanks in advance for your help!

You don't need a utility to do that, just use Windows Task Manager to set the game to only use one core.

Right on, didn't know that. I'll give it a try when I get home tonight. Thanks for the tip!

You have to start the game, then open Task Manager, click on "Processes" and then right click on the game exe, this brings up a small menu, and at the bottom should be an option to "Set Affinity" for the game exe, you should see a tick against each CPU core, all you need do is uncheck one of the cores, and click "OK", then restart the game.

Hopefully, setting the game to only use one core will solve your problem. Smile

Hey, BTOG46 - just wanted to say thank you once more. Your suggestion worked a treat, and I'm enjoying playing the game again.

Looks and plays much better on this rig than is did on my old Compusaurus rex. Cool

Cheers, sir... bravo! Clap
