I've posted in several other places, running two 7600GT's in SLI on evga's 680i mobo with an e6600 Intel CPU and 2 gigs of OCZ gold. 800Watt (up from 550) so don't even try to give my PSU ****.
The game runs crystal clear perfecto with everything set as high as possible. That is, until it freezes. When it does freeze it loops the current sound and most of the time the sound switches from the level sounds to the menue sounds after a few seconds but the screen remains frozen and there is no recovery (must reboot). After a freeze such as this, the last save game cannot be loaded. Attempting to load it will show the loading bar go full like normal, then the screen will flicker static like a VCR in FFWD and the computer will reboot. Windows will then give a message about serious error blah blah blah. This sounds like the infinite loop error which is a common graphics problem that you just turn off that setting under troubleshooting, but that doesn't help. The freezes occure at random but with greater frequency in certain arreas, especially the pier at the armory and the treetop labs outdoors (and more i'm sure, but I stopped playing till it is fixed). It is present in every version (vanilla, 1.3, 1.33, 1.4, the forbidden 1.2, ect) and with/without SLI and at any graphics settings and EAX on or off. I ran it for a minute in low res but decided that even if that fixed it I wouldn't play it outside of my native res so maybe 1680X1050 causes it but whatever. Also, super OC, mild OC, no OC, and underclock no difference. You would not believe the amount of time I have spent playing some checkpoints of this game because it chrashed so many f-ing times in treetop. nVidia forums are full of freezing stories with 7600's but those freezes (which I experienced in HL:E1) are only for a few seconds and do not kill/reboot my computer and frankly, after this farcry **** they could last for 30 seconds and I wouldn't really mind. Maybe they're related issues, maybe not. Maybe Intel Dual core is doing it, maybe not. Maybe nVidia and Ubi got together and decided to set a bit that screws me so I'll have to buy the 8800 for $550 instead of my two 7600s for $150 (that's $75 each) with comparable performance. Maybe I'll stop ranting and go to bed and in a year I'll check and see if I can play it. |

I am sure that there are people running with 2x7600 in SLI but maybe not with that Nvidia chipset and an intel processor.
Chances are its the Core 2 duo/motherboard, and going to an 8800 might not fix the problem. As Far Cry ages, what was once a game that challenged computer resources has become one that can be tamed by systems that can run everything on very high. The problem is that when Far Cry was developed and launched, there were no dual core CPUs, no SLI and the best video card available was the venerable 9800XT. Most gaming systems had 512 MB of memory. As technology advanced, incompatibilities appeared. The introduction of the ATI x800 and Nvidia 6800 allowed people to get out of medium graphics and into high but still not very high at highest resolutions. But the graphics often looked blue or the game refused to start. Patches made that transition possible since new cards were not supported by the vanilla game. Dual core AMD CPUs had a problem with running the game too fast which was fixed by the AMD dual core optimizer. Now, we see a lot of problems with X1950XTX and Core 2 duo systems that should blow the doors off Far Cry but have some niggling problem that crashes the game. Since there are probably no more patches to address this advance in technology, you may be stuck. But running at high instead of very high is not so bad. While Far Cry graphics were always spectacular, it was the gameplay and AI that made the game shine. One more thing. Can you monitor temperatures? The crashing could be heat related, what is your cooling like? While I am typing another thought came to me. I have never been a big fan of SLI. From what I remember, 2x7600 is not even as good as one 7800. In general, you are better off getting one $200 card instead of 2x$100 cards. And the 8800 is superior to any SLI pair in the 7xxx series. What I am getting at is that maybe you are expecting too much from the 7600's. |

hmmmmmm, that wipes the smile off me face, I was enjoying the game til it decided to reboot, freeze, or show the critical error, or blue screen of death. Nothing can be done, then ?
I have 2gb ddr2 ram, duo core 2.13, asus mthrbrd, and asus Nvidia 7600GT. I have another masheen that runs with the 7600gs graphics card on an Intel 3.06 with 1gb of ram, and that masheen runs the game all night without a glitch !.... b*gger ! Thanks for any advice you may send my way. tony |

I dont have 7600's but i got 2 7900GT KO's and i pretty much have to turn SLI off to run farcry. IF i try to run FC in SLI i will either get the screen flickering with maps load, or the screen gets all garbled and i have to reboot, or the screen turns black. Im running a AMD X2 dual core but i just applied the dual core driver. As for the X1900XTX series card my wife has that card and had 0 issues, guess she got lucky. ASUS A8N32 SLI Deluxe | X2 4200 | 2GB RAM | 2x7900GT's SLI | 2x300GB | 250GB SATA's | XFX 780i Mobo | Quad Core Q6700 | 4GB RAM | 2x7950GT's SLI | 2x300GB | 250GB SATA's | |

The only problems I have heard with SLI is that it did not work at all on servers running punkbuster.
The issue is with trying to run HDR and AA with the 1.4 beta patch. If you run it online at less than full throttle maybe that's why. |

hey, I'm having the same issue here, I'm running 1 7600GT on a SLI gigabyte mobo (GA-8N-SLI) with intel pentium D 3.somthing gig processors.
The game just crashes to desk top on the tree top level every time i try to enter the bunker. Any help would be apreciated. |

a very helpful chap (H8BALL) told me the PSU needs to be alot higher than the 450w type I have, and another texter says far cry doesn't like Nvidia cards, or dual core processors !
My other and slighty inferior commms machine runs an Intel 3.06 processor with a similar Power Supply Unit, but has the far less expensive Nvidia 7300GS video card, and only 1 gb of ram, and runs the game all night, no probs. (I'll be looking for a 650watt psu in the next coupla days). Also heard Far Cry has bugs whereby treetop maps (for example) very often cause masheen to crash/fall over/reboot, and I can confrim that definitely happens ! I am now at the tenth (?) level of the game, tryng to breach the Regulator area, and getting my arse kicked.... (I'm using the lower spec masheen mentioned until I can source a decent PSU. Good luck (and move closer to my house, so we can have a Deathmatch) :-) NUTTER |

Wow, some post traffic. The crashes aren't heat related, the GPU 1 and 2 stay at around 60C and the CPU at 55C. The fan speed ramp doesn't even start until 70C. I don't know what the cut-off temp is, but the ramp reaches 100% fan speed at 90 so probably 100C. In fact, right now after a few hours of movie watching then 45mins of HL2: Lost Coast (which looks awesome) the CPU is 61, system is 55 and GPU1 and 2 are at 62 and 60.
As for SLI, it's been around since 3dfx invented it around the time of voodoo 3, long before Far Cry. Nvidia bought them and kept the letters but changed the words they stand for. Oh and SLI peformance gains (except two dual GPU cards, which actually lose performance sometimes) are very close to double. They did something right developing it, so double the 7600GT FPS and that's pretty close to what you get with SLI. |

ONE STEP CLOSER!
I did the affinity thing and only had core 0 running farcry. Well I made it as far as going outside on the treetop labs level and getting the keycard and heading towards the bunker before a lockup which is much farther than before. I noticed a few odd things, the fog blinked on and off a lot when I was on the ewok tree platforms and the large ditch between the building and where the reinforcements show up had large rectangles that were rendered as black and blue squares instead of dirt textures. Rather than reboot I got up and had a beer and watched lost room on TV. When I came back it was still playing the level background sounds (birds and ****) and I pushed esc and a few seconds later I heard the menu sounds. My computer was not dead after all. Furious mouse clicking got me the mobo pc speaker beep and Ctrl-Alt-Del got me a mouse pointer after a min or two. Eventually I got the frozen Far Cry image to be replaced with a GIANT desktop. We're talking 320X240 on a 20" display. On that desktop I had the reason my Far Cry is locking up... The nv4_disp display driver has stopped working normally. I wish 3dfx was still around, NEVER ONCE did my V3 2000 4XAGP not run a game. Maybe it ran at 0.25 FPS, it ran till I quit playing. |

I have a similar sort of problem, but It's not as bad as that. The problem that I have is when I play the online game, it normally takes quite a long time to load the game and once the bar reaches the right hand side it either stays on the loading screen whilst playing the Far Cry music for another couple of minutes or it takes me to the 'play' screen but the screen flickers, if I click on 'join players' the screen just freezes and doesn't do anything, after this I can only press escape and try and load another server. Does anyone else have this problem?? And is there a way I can fix it, I use the 1.3 patch, it always does this whilst I try and load the 'Community of Outsiders' servers as the only map I play is surf. I've tried finding information about this on the net but I can't seem to find anything about it, sorry if this is a complete load of rubbish lol.
Thanks in advance David. |

I sometimes get the flickering screen. Usually the mouse leaves a trail of ghost arrows in its wake. What I do is disconnect and reconnect and it usually fixes itself.

yeah thats what happens to me, when I disconnect and reconnect though it does the same thing. It's weird.

I have the same problem playing Far Cry. The game freezes in certain levels, with the sound looping for a while until the infamous bluescreen appears stating eternal loop in nv4_disp. This never happened with my previous PC (Pentium 4 HT, 2GB RAM, ATI 9800XT, WinXP MCE 2005). My new PC has a Core 2 Dual, 4 GB RAM and a Nvidia 7950 GX2, that is SLI on a single card. I'm using Win XP MCE 2005 and have the latest videocard driver from nvidia. I'm running the game in a resolution of 2560x1600 which is the native res of my Dell 30" LCD. By the way, Far Cry looks incredible in this res :-) I haven't played all that many other games since getting this PC, but no other game has frozen on me. So is this a bug in Far Cry or is Far Cry utilizing the video card / driver in a way that reveals a bug in the driver?

wel i just built up a new putey with Intel core 2 duo gigabyte 965p DS3P m/b 2gb OCZ pc6400 and gigabyte 7600GT silentpipe ! alos running XP Pro sp2 with all latest updates as of 5/1/2007.
temps are all good i have kept a very close eye on them vide card does not go over about 60 even on stupidly hot days fully loaded and cpu is around 40-45 max same as vid card fully loaded! all other games apart from these 2 play fine! and there is a lot- opengl and also d3d games all play fine eg serious sam 1, tse and 2, call of duty 1+2 and exp united offensive, silent hunter 3, commandos strike force, severance blade of darkness, bloodrayne2, tomb raider legend, and a few more that i cant remember. computer is running stock speed and runs very sweet ! i have benched th rig like crazy and it runs without n e probs at all! apart from these 2! run orthos/prime 95 plus 3dmark2006 at teh same time its slow but doesnt crash! ! it was working ok with Farcry although i did not play it for all that long! 15mins cant play it at all now not even for 1 sec ! n e ways i couldnt get medal of honour to work although i did eventually [without a driver change] or both expansions [spearhead and breakthrough] so i did a bit of onlone reading. it seems that u must install an earlier nvidia driver for 7600GT! so i did that and medal of honour worked for all 3 parts! u cant go back to far in driver land cos the 80- series was ok but the 70 series of drivers wouldnt not recognise the vid card and would not let me install it! the 80 series worked ok [83.71 whql] and it was good! i went to play farcry again and the b l o o d y thing would not work and restarted my computer everytime! it always goes a fair bit into loading up the game, but restarts when it is just about to start to play the game ie it restarts just when it finishes loading up the first level! it was a save game on the first level! i also did what i read online and that was to keep MOHAA working with latest driver u had to go into the device manager and use update from ther and point to where the later driver was and install it. i did that after uninstalled the 80 series and then loaded up the the 90 series again and tested it out! i checked MOHAA spearhead and breakthrough and they woudlnt work again and when i checked farcry it still wouldnt work agian ! ahh fk it i said and loaded up the 80 series again and MOHAA spearhead and breaklthrough worked again but farcry is still a no go! farcry is at version 1.33 directX is at 9.0C dec version 2006 i have read wher u can disable one cpu with teh affinity settings for the game.exe but i cant get that far although i should try it !in what little time i have to do it! n e one got n e ideas on a fix? |
||||
|
well i tried out far cry again today and i also tried the affinity setting on facry.exe and reduced it to 1 cpu while it was still loading and i also changed to a new game not a saved game and it seems to work!
i then went back and did not touch the affinity and just loaded up the start of a new game again and it seemed to work ok ! i played it for about 10 mins or so ! i have not done anything except those 2 things! driver version 83.71 ! i did a lot of reading on it last night and it seems that nvidia say that ther 84.21 driver version is the best fallback option for the 90 series drivers if they are creating problems for u ! personally i havent tried them but that is what they recommend! |

I really want to know who at Nvidia made the decision to drop stop updating drivers for the 7600s on XP. We get 97.31 and that's it. They're up in the 150's on Vista or if you have the 8800 on xp! This Shadow guy posted this link http://rapidshare.com/files/26441524/WinXP.exe.html to what he says is a 150's series driver modified to support older cards and that it worked for him. I knew in my heart of hearts it was all Nvidia's fault... First they take my voodoo, they stop putting out open source drivers for the Omega dude, then they force ATI (my second love) out of the Intel arena... Next computer will be crossfire
|

I added a gig of ram to my computer and it's not fixed all the slowness (obviously). It had 256mb which I bought brand new from PCWorld, well ****.
