Well its a relief to know that its not an isolated case. Do you think this is something a patch could solve??

Maybe but the best thing UBI can do is totaly recode the server launcher and use much less resources as many other games have, take cod their server launcher runs very smooth with very little resources used even when running a 64 man server. And recoding FC2 and/or server launcher will not happen i bet, hopefully they will learn from this mistake for FC3.

Godhelp Ubi if they dont learn from their mistakes. Thats asuming its not too late.

FC3 hasnt been officially mentioned yet and your right they may not make fc3 but you never know, i never expected to see a fc2 then what 4 years later here it is.

I've tried opening all these ports and it still hasn't worked for me. Hell, I even tried turning off my firewall to test it - I still can't see my server. And if i do it the ingame way, no-one joins. I've tried everything, any ideas what i'm doing wrong?

If your running a router AND modem you need to open ports on both, this is a common thing people forget. Also if either or both router and/or modem have a stealth/block ping feature this needs to be disabled.

My server was working fine untill yesterday.
Now the ping is 9999 evertime. What have I done wrong or what have I changed?

9999 ping is another common issue, your modem and or router could be blocking ping, check your router/modem settings for block ping and or stealth.

Same here. Just started the other night too. Seems like it doesnt hurt the players joining though. YAY!

No, most times it doesnt matter if the ping is 9999, players can still join and play. This 9999 ping problem is the UBI servers issue in some way. When i hosted i and most of my clanmates that were in the US could see my server ping but then if someone from the UK should join all they woud see is 9999.

Even sometimes people in the US say the server is at 9999 but i tell them to refresh and then the ping will show up for them.

All you can do is just make sure your modem AND or router settings are set to not block ping and disable stealth mode and your server ping will show for most players. Now if you are running on a crapy connection your ping may not show correctly and well you shouldnt be running a server in the first place (comment not pointing at anyone in particular).

Thnkyou for the wise words, but I CAN run a server. Maybe my service provider has done something because it was working last week and stopped suddenly. I havent been able to get it up again since. Im gonna re-open the ports and check out me router.

My Kinksys WRT300N router was by default not pingable. As a result everyone saw my ping as 9999. To change this setting I had to set go to my router's cpanel, SECURITY tab, unselect 'FILTER ANONYMOUS INTERNET REQUESTS'.

You'll get more users on your server this way.

Talking about ping...thafuriousone, do you know how to write an autokick script to kick a player out based on their ping value? Can you provide an example? I'd like to use that too.

I got auto-kicked from your clan's server recently. The message was something like:

PB has kicked you [for 1 minute] [Admin Decision]. It was not a manual kick for sure.

My PC was not pingable at that moment, so I suspect it was because of that...

The kick you may have gotten might have been due to making room for a clan member or friend on vent with us, the 1 minute temp ban is used alot for this reason.

As for writing a high ping scripted, punkbuster does have an option to kick players with high ping but not sure what the command is for Far Cry 2.

Usually when I kick (using PB) for room I will attach a message to the person kicked, "making room for members sry" and I usually do it for 2 min span. 1 min is default.

1 being the slot number of the player you wish to force screen shot on. you can retrieve the slot number by using pb_sv_plist.

This will capture the SS and place it in
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\FCX\pb\svss

you can use partial names to get screenshots in PB.
Another way to get a screenshot is: pb_sv_getss "V" would grab screens from everyone with a v in their name.
No info after the command pb_sv_getss will get everyone's if there is enough time.

This can not be done, it should work in theory by setting up the line

SetSetting gamemode_cycle CTF;DM;TDM

But the game doesnt change game modes after the first match and will stay CTF or what ever the first game mode is set to.

Maybe furture updates may fix this.
