Whenever I turned everything up to its max setting , the game would stop responding at the 2nd splash screen. After playing with some settings, I figured out that setting the r_Quality_BumpMapping setting to '3' was the problem. Is this a known problem with any part of my setup (listed below)? (ps: it runs with no problems if I leave everything on very high and change the setting from 3 to 2)

version 1.4
p4 3.0e
HIS x1950PRO 512mb
Catalyst 7.6
Windows XP Pro SP2
(fresh defrag and 2-week-old hdd wipe)

Thanks for any help.

I have this exact same problem. I can set evrything to highest possible setting. As soon as I turn Lighting Quality to Very High it takes forever and a day to get past the splash screen and then freezes or PC crashes when loading last checkpoint. I have applied patch 1.4. and it is the original Far Cry CD (not the free ad supprted version)

System Specs:
Acer Travelmate 8200
Intel Core Duo 1.66GHz
Ati Mobility Radeon x1600
1GB DDR2
Catalyst Control Centre 7.6

Other than that a truly fantastic game I cant wait for Crysis and Far Cry 2!!!!!!!!!

My mistake, I am using Catalyst Control Centre vers. 7.8. I can pretty much max out all settings except r_BumpMapping_Quality 3 which I believe makes use of 2.0 shaders

Why no response?
