As soon as I added the extra mem and changed page file to second hard drive I am able to play this game on High settings. Thanks to Teakguide.com you guys rock. Having Level 3 bump mapping is awesome.

Thanks guys.

Just a note, several websites have started ripping off my guide (i.e. copying and pasting it in full), and hosting it on their own sites. I have not given any permission for this, and it is an infringment of my copyright.

I didn't put time and effort into writing the guides to watch others take them as their own, so please if you see such a site, let them know they are going against my wishes and that I'll contact their Host/ISP to pursue the matter if they don't remove it.

Sorry for that little rant, but since my entire site is based on presenting only Tweak Guides, it will go down the tubes if everyone rips off my content Smile

I believe in a lot of things such as what comes around goes around. Thats why I purchased this game because I code games which hopefully oneday will make it. By supporting Crytech and people like your self games will get better in quality and quantity. If you rip off the publisher you rip off the developer.
On a different note I turned my sound settings to standed in control panel and in game to low. This automatically allows beefier video settings. Thanxs dude from one Aussie to another Grouse!

Just a note to tell people I've implemented a printing system on my site, whereby sending a guide to the printer removes all the graphics, images, sidebars etc. and gives a full clean page of text as the result.

If you've wanted a printed version of the guide in a nice format, go to the site and print out the guide Smile

oh by the way i just noticed that 'special effects' include the ragdoll physics, turn it down to medium or something, and you begin to feel like your playing quake all over again when you kill something, like those mini shamblers

right now i have a savepoint in the room in the archives, like quite near the start, im stuck there until i find a way to go to where ever the arrow is pointing, and theres this funky glass thing in the middle of the room which is killing my fps hardcore radeon9800xt athlonxp3000 1gb ram etc etc , i do not see any settings that will positively affect the light or something, it looks like all pixel shaders right there and its so sore to notice the mouselag + choppiness when something that looks so nice is rendered

I have no intention of highjacking your thread but its just an extra tip for those people wanting to squeeze as much as they can out of this game

Thanks wormgerm. I believe that tip (essentially it's about disabling the background movie) frees up more RAM, which in turn should mean less loading pauses.

I already mention how to disable the startup movies - moving them to another folder does the same thing as disabling them.

I'm not sure if either of these will improve FPS as such, but I will update Page 5 of my guide (the Play Background Video setting) to mention that it may improve performance for some people.

From the tweak guide:

quote:
I also recommend that if you want to use AF in Far Cry, you either use your graphics card's control panel to set it and leave it at 1x in Far Cry, or alternately set it to "Application Controlled" (not 0x) in your graphics card's control panel and adjust the AF level in Far Cry, not both. For more details see my Simple Antialiasing and Anisotropic Guide

One thing I noticed on my system is that I got substantially WORSE performance on the FRAPS timedemos I ran with AF set to "application controlled" in ATI control panel and AF set to 1x in Far Cry, than I did if I force AF to 2x in the ATI control panel. The difference was about 10 FPS, in favor of the 2x setting (not a typo). Just something wierd I noticed. Smile

Card is a Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB, btw.

That's very strange. I have a 128MB 9800 Pro as well, and Antialiasing of None in-game, "app pref" in control panel, and I definitely notice better framerates.

Maybe there's something else on your system which leads to better performance with forced AA at 2x? Such as a CPU bottleneck or a background app?

In any case there's no Antialias of '1x' in the game. I assume you mean None which shows an Antialias level of:

r_FSAA = "0"
r_FSAA_samples = "1"

in the System.cfg file. Note that FSAA samples of 1 is equivalent to no antialiasing when control panel AA is set to "app pref" under the Direct3D tab.

I wasn't taling about anti-aliasing (AA). I was talking about Anisotropic Fitering (AF). Wink2

Anyway, I think it was a fluke. I've had some other combinations with 1x AF produce good results.

Ok I was doing the Catalyst installation guide and the settings and I went to the Advanced SmartGart. My AGP Read was on but my AGP Write was off. I set it to on and restarted, but when the computer came back on it said it was off again. Why is it doing this and how can I stop it?

sean10mm - whoops I mistook AA for AF in your post Smile

GKai - go through my Windows XP and System Optimization guides. It sounds like something on your system is not quite right. It's probably the fact that you need to install/reinstall your motherboard's AGP drivers to get AGP Write to stay ON.

Oh ok, I'll try that. Your guides are awesome nice job. By the way I followed your ATI Catalyst installation guide. And reinstalled my Catalysts. Reinstalled Far Cry. It works now. And I can run it on medium settings no prob. I could probably put some stuff higher, but I haven't tried my comp isn't badass but it's pretty good.
