I see on UBI they are offering Far Cry as a download. How does that work because if I download, I won't have a CD or DVD to leave in the drive while it's running.

Is Far Cry Downlaod the same exact game as the one on CD's or DVD?

my computer dose not ask me for produt number key when i install on my labtop, id did ask me on my desktop, would this keep me from playing online? also when iplay the ground is blue, my labtop is way better than my desktop and it works fine on my desk top

I have an install problem. It seams there were TWO releases of Far Cry in the 5-CD pack variety. The one I and a few others have reciently bought and the original release. The difference is in the installer. The new original release has the following at the root of CD-1

The original release works just fine on Vista 64-bit machine. I've installed it, un-installed it, patched it, un-patched it etc., all with great success. The new release - well, I have yet to get it to install at all on Vista 64-bit.

The newer version fails to install with the following message.

"Run setup32.exe on 32 bit Windows, or run setup64.exe on 64 bit Windows. setup64.exe".

Maybe someone has a recommendation? I'm calling UBI on Monday and asking them what I need to do. I have no idea why they'd change the installers and then call them setup32.exe and FC32.msi. In my opinion, there was just no need to do this. I've tried installing the game from my friends (original release CD set) and then using my CD-1 to run the game, but the two copies are not compatable and my CD-1 isn't accepted on his install.

Hello this is a reply to Testicle-1. I am alosr in the same boat as you. Just got Vista HP64 and was gonna try some Far Cry with the 64 bit patches; but lo and behold I lost my original cds so I went to WalMart picked up a new batch and ended up with the same error.Use Setup64 in 64 bit OS. Been working on this for 3 days now and I am almost bald now. Any help would be appreciated.

All I can say is that Vista was a twinkle in Bill Gates eye when Far Cry came out. There could well be major incompatibilities that we do not know about. I am sure that 64-bit far Cry was not intended to be installed on Vista, but on Windows XP pro 64. There may be a switch in Vista to allow legacy programs to install. I just don't know.

I just happen to have a 64-bit OS. Not all applications I run are 64-bit.

I'm not wanting to install the 64-bit version of Far Cry. I want the 32-bit version because I want to try online. I'm not sure if I should stop at v1.3 or go to 1.4 with the cumulative patch though.

It's just strange that an older release of Far Cry installs just fine on Vista 64-bit, but the newer release doesn't install.

I called UBISOFT today and then recommended I go back to the store and exchange the game, which won't solve the problem because they are all the same releases. I was then told "Since you already own a licenses copy of the game, go ahead and copy your friends CDs so you have a set that work". It's protected software, no way to copy.

So has anyone actually been able to successfully install it on Vista??

Im getting Error 1603 (which nobody else seems to have mentioned)

Was worth a try. Clean instal of Far Cry 1.0 works on my PC. Refuses to run the program with any of the patches installed. Hence have to go back to 1.0 .
Great game but multiplayer hangs at logging in to UBI - never finds any servers (nothing mentioned seems to fix the multiplayer problem).
1.5years of trying is long enough. Will put it down to a bad experience.

One question,
I own the Far Cry game (The original) and it contains 5 disks. Unfortuanetlly at some point in time I have lost the first disk and can't find it anywhere. Is my only option going and buying the game again or can someone help me out here? If you can help then please post your answer.

Yes Chris buy the game again. You do not 'own' the game, you own the copy that you bought, and you lost (part of) it. Don't tell us you expect a free copy now.
Luckily you can find the DVD version for cheap in most shops.

@Testicle-1: yes you stop at (including) patch 1.32 because the further patches only support 32-bit version, as is stated in the readme.

Since a year or 2, i only see the DVD version in shops. I have bought it then, and my second copy came for free with a videocard i bought later.

It costs € 4.99 in my country. Dunno where you live but surely you have games shops over there?

I purchased a retail copy of the game a long time ago. It sucks that I have to purchase it again just to play it.

That's not the case with Steam and HalfLife2. I don't even have the game cd or product key, but I still can download the game through my steam account.

took me a while since there is not a lot of information out there on this but here's what i did...

1. Install FarCry to an x86 installation of windows...
2. Copy the ENTIRE x:\Program Files\Ubisoft folder to your x:\Program Files (x86) folder on the xp64 installation...
3. Install patch 1.3 to the installation...
4. Add the AMD 64 pack...
5. Patch with 1.4...
6. Enjoy!!!

please note that x64 shows 1.32 in the menu screen but x86 shows 1.4...

the 1.4 patch does NOT apply to x64...

This is a common problem and there are a few causes. It could be that you do not have a powerful enough computer to run the game. If you do not have at least a Radeon 9200 or FX5200 video card or if you have on-board video, you cannot run Far Cry.
You might need to update your video drivers.
Get Catalyst drivers from ATI here: ATI downloads
Get Forceware drivers here: Nvidia downloads
Use driver cleaner to remove all traces of old drivers before you install new ones.

I have the original 5CD version of Far Cry and just tried to install it to Vista. I get the splash screen-I see the 1.33 patch installed OK.Then it shuts down to desktop.Yes I run as administrator and not in Compatability mode.Im posting my dxdiag here ------------------
