Decided to reinstall Far Cry today after not having played it for a good few years. Upgraded my system a lot since I last played it, so was looking forward to cranking up the settings. After patching to 1.4, I started a game and was pleasantly surprised at how good it still looks... until i went outside and was greeted by nothing but black where there should be grass textures.
Anyway, I did some digging on the forum and found a few people with similar problems, but no fix. One guy noticed that lowering the resolution to 'low' solved the anomaly, but obviously the low res textures didn't look too great. Any other texture setting and it would reappear. So... after nosying around in the Far Cry configurator tool, I noticed that there are a bunch of other hidden settings that change when the main texture setting changes, and after a bit of trial and error, I finally found a fix! Setting e_detail_texture_quality = "0" solved all my problems! Note: I had a few problems with the configurator not applying the settings correctly, so i would recommend changing this value via the 'system.cfg' file instead. You'll need to set a few other parameters in this file to get the texture detail you require. Check tweakguides if you need guidance. Hope this helps someone anyway. ---------------------------------- Core2 Duo E6600 / EVGA 7800 GS CO (AGP) / 2GB DDR2 @ 533MHz / Asrock 4Core Dual VSTA / M-Audio Delta44 / QTechnology 500W Gold Series |
