Wouldn't it be nice if you could grab one download that has all the Far Cry game patches and custom map packs you could want? One click, 2.61 GBytes of downloaded files. 3 patches, 9 multiplayer map packs, 2 single player map packs, the Obsidian Edge mod, and the Punkbuster Setup utility.

Sounds like a dream, doesn't it.

Oh wait, it's not. Your pal Slugworth comes through for you. One click, one bittorrent, 16 essential files for the Far Cry player; perfect for the person who is new to Far Cry. Here's what you get:

PATCHES

  • Far Cry Patch v1.3
  • Far Cry patch v1.31
  • Far Cry Patch v1.33

MULTIPLAYER FILES

  • Slugworth's Far Cry Map Pack #1
  • Slugworth's Far Cry Map Pack #2
  • Crytek Tournament Map Pack v1.3
  • Unofficial Far Cry Custom Map Pack #1
  • Unofficial Far Cry Custom Map Pack #2
  • Unofficial Far Cry Custom Map Pack #3
  • Springcreature Far Cry Map Pack
  • EU Far Cry Map Pack
  • PBSetup Utility, for keeping your Punkbuster software up to date

SINGLE PLAYER FILES

  • Slugworth's Far Cry Map Pack #3
  • Pissdrunx1987's Single Player Map Pack v1.1

OBSIDIAN EDGE FILES

  • Obsidian Edge Mod v1.0 full installer
  • Obsidian Edge v1.1 patch installer

Only interested in the patches, or single player, Obsidian Edge, or multiplayer? I broke it down for you:

Too good to be true? Nope. All you need is a bittorrent client. You find this helpful? Let your bittorrent client run for a while after it's completed, share the bandwidth, help others get the same files you are getting.

Can't decide, want more information on all the torrents that are available for Far Cry downloads? Go to the Torrents information page at http://www.farcry-maps.com, or the listing of all available torrents.

Bandwidth provided by Far Cry Community Maps and Springcreature Clan. Other seeders welcome, let us know if you put up a semi-permanent seed and we'll make sure to list you here.

EDIT: Broke out Patches, MP and SP, added PBSetup tool
EDIT: Updated URLs, included pointer to all torrents
EDIT: Updated torrents to include some recent files

Paraphrased from Back to the future:

Slug: 1.6 GB!!! 1 . 6 G B ! ! ! The only thing that can generate that kind of power is a lightning bolt.

FC community: What did you say?

Slug: A bolt of lightning. Unfortunately you never know where one's going to strike.

FC comm: We do now (hands Slug the clock tower flyer.)

Doc: Great Scott!!! This is it! This is the answer! It says here a bolt of lightning will strike the clock tower at precisely 10:04 P.M. next Saturday night! If we could somehow harness this lightning...channel it, into the flux capacitor, it just might work. Next Saturday night, we're sending you back to the future!

Seriously, it's a huge download, but now that I see it if I think of all the seperate downloads I have combined on either CD backup and hard drive it would be well over that number.

GREAT JOB Slug!!!

Thanks Coops, Doc.

For those new to bittorrent - when you first start your download, your bittorrent client is going to tell you that this download will take a discouraging amount of time to complete. I've seen initial ETA numbers around 15 hours. This is misleading, the number will improve over time. Let the download run for a while and you'll see the estimated completion time steadily drop to something much more reasonable, 2 to 6 hours or so, depending on your network connection.

This is still a while to run. Nice thing about bittorrent - it's able to stop and start without losing it's place pretty effectively. It's a really nice protocol for distributing large files. You can download a whole operating system with bittorrent. Legally even!

Thanks for doing this, Slug.

To answer your original question: "Auto-download and auto-install."

Halo, a game years older than FC, I can go to the MP server right now and if I don't have the current patch, after not playing for months, it auto-installs it after telling me it's going to do so, plays me pretty music, then takes me to the game after the update is complete.

I can join any game of CSS, DOD, etc. without the map, and the map will auto dl and install and then the game will start. If the game has been updated, my client will be auto-updated and restarted. I can be out-of-date and join a server running a map I dont' have, and I will be able to join and play with no extra key- or mouse clicks.

These were gross omissions (I say gross because this functionality was established as basic years before FC came out) from the FC MP that give the impression to vet gamers who are used to better that the MP was tacked on haphazerdly. The result is two years and thousands of manhours of confusion and upset for some people, and almost no players.

Basically the server and client need to be rewritten to include these fundamental features.

It is what it is, tomatoes; and I don't think that anyone would disagree with you. We can't fix this issue and I don't see any signs that this will be addressed by Crytek or Ubisoft. All we can do is try to provide the easiest work arounds for this shortcoming within the game.

New here. Just reinstalled Far Cry 1.0 onto my games drive and its refusing to install patches. Keeps stating that the c://windows/installer etc etc is not working, it is working fine. I have patches 1.1 thro 1.3 minus 1.2 which seems to have fell into a black hole. But when I click on install it asks me to "remove" previous instalation first and only available button is "remove". There is no "previous" in there and the registry is clear. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the EXACT same problem. The only difference is that I can only install patch 1.1 and not 1.3 or any others [as 1.3 is needed for the others to install] I've tried everything, please PLEASE HELP.

There isn't an official one out, but I made a 1.0-1.33 unofficial patch + registry file that gets about 120 downloads a month: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/452106891/...861067543#4861067543

Thanks Smile

Technically it only installed 3 patches. Since patch 1.3 contains all of 1.1 and 1.2 and then has its own changes, that is the first. Next is 1.31. Lastly, is 1.33 which has all the contents of 1.32 and its own changes.

The .reg file updates the registry from version 1.0 to 1.33 for possible future patch installs or uninstalls.

Wow, Doc, you're my hero! I tried 50 billion different combinations to try installing 1.31 (after installing 1.3, of course), but it gave me the same Windows Installer error EVERY time. With your patch, the installation was a breeze! Multiplayer, here I come...

@MiDdLeEasTMAN- Glad to help. Enjoy MP Big Grin

@elbmek- Yes, I just wanted to be clear that it didn't install all patches, because that is not the recommended installation. Only 1.3>>>1.31>>>1.33 is required as it has the content of all patches without installation or online errors.
