I too am sick of this problem.
It seems to me that UBISOFT has absolutely no interest in supporting the online play (must not be any $$ in it). I see plenty of complaints from people having the same problem, but what is missing is some sort of response from UBISOFT. Even something like “we recognize there is a problem and are looking into …” is better then the silence.
I have already talked my sister in-law into getting Doom3 instead of FarCry, and have made it a point to tell others to avoid this game.

1. A good point but.... If you are running a legal copy and maintain your installation correctly you will rarely see CD Key problems. Make sure you have the right ports open, you are fully patched up and have downloaded all the maps for the server you are trying to join.

2. So thats what you really think of Far Cry? Why bother posting here then? Surely its better for all if you Foxtrot Oscar to a D3 forum....

1. Rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!! I have followed all install instructions, disabled all firewalls and tried all the possible fix’s and I’m till am having problems! I have a friend who is in the same position as me. (like so many others it now seems) The problem is not at my end!

2.Why did he post here? Presumable to tell someone the product doesn’t work!!! This is what these forums are for, if people like him didn’t moan, then nobody would know there are people still having issues! It annoys me to read something like that, you clearly are more worried about the game looking bad as opposed to the problem itself! Here's a thought, when a solution is found you won’t have a problem with people like me and amatbrewer voicing our negative views. Why would he recommend a product that does not work properly?!??!

This issue is clearly affecting allot of people and needs to be sorted, there seems to be no real positive help from UBI and it doesn’t look like its forthcoming. The reason I bought this game was for the online option and so did my friend. This is a great game that’s not being given the support it needs. I want Far Cry to work!!!
I am deeply disappointed with UBISOFT, and if this problem is not resolved I will be returning the game and recommending others to steer clear. It’s not worth the hassle!

GET IT SORTED!!!!!!!!!!

Okay first off:
I think you need a new keyboard, the apostrophe key seems to get stuck.

Secondly:
No, sorry its not rubbish as the hundreds/sometimes thousands of people who play online every day will tell you. Follow the advice given here and the vast majority of people’s problems will be limited in the future.
If you and your friend are still experiencing difficulties then raise a post with the specifics and people here in the community will try and help you overcome them.

Thirdly, why did he post?
Was it to tell all something that they didn't know? No.
Was it to ask for help with his specific problem? No.
Was it simply to make a valid complaint about the lack of feedback? No, he could have stopped at that but chose not to.

Your passionate defence of his freedom of speech is admirable but totally misguided.
I have no problem with people expressing their views but that should be in the right time and in the right place.
A little education for you; this is the Technical Community Help Forum for Far Cry. It is where people who love this game try to help each other get the best out of it, not to tell the world how they hate it and no one should buy it. There are plenty of other forums out there that will welcome that type of opinion.

Constructive critique is a good thing, but i saw nothing constructive in the second half of the post.

As for my concern with the image of the game, an interesting concept.
Perhaps you should read some of my posts to get a true reflection on my view of UBISOFT.
When you are done there read the questions I posed to Crytek in the sticky from them in the general discussions page. Yes, to me the CD key is a trivial annoyance when compared with the Punkbuster Integration and the Netcode/Lag problems, but it won't stop me trying to help people overcome their difficulties and contributing in my own little way to this community.

You might want to ask yourself what contribution your post and that of the author that you have chosen to champion have made?

Like I said, if you still have problems, raise a thread, if i or others more technically adept can help you we will.

Ok Firstly stick to the point, can’t be bothered to get into childish baiting. (!!!!! Well ok just for you)

Secondly, sorry it is, if you need proof try reading the rest of this thread, and other areas of this site. I’m sure there are many people that are not having issues, however these are the people I’m not interested in. I’m more bothered about the people having the same issue as myself. The same people who have tried everything offered by UBISOFT and still have no solution, I’m more worried about them.

Thirdly, I don’t want to get into the reasons why he made his complaint as only he would know that, not you or I. However he achieved what he was after which was a message to the Far Cry team and anyone experiencing the same problems as him, that the problem still isn’t fixed even after trying the suggested solutions. If it annoys a few people, so be it, my concern is getting my moneys worth from the game.

Its seems you do have an issue with people expressing their views. All he did was back up the fact that he was disappointed with level or service. I see nothing wrong with that. But once again I don’t want to get into a drawn out conversation about it.
I want Far Cry on line to work as it’s supposed to for everyone.

The CD key is maybe trivial to you, but funnily enough is fairly important to a few people it would seem.
Would it be right for me to leave a post saying your problem with the Punkbuster Integration is trivial, I would say no. Certainly not an excuse to tell him to F Off.

Smile Thanks!

Well here is a new one for you, I was prompted for my cd key (because I exited a game improperly I think) and in my impatience I started typing random numbers and hit enter. Now I can't even log into ubi.com with it asking for it. Did I erase my original cd key from my reg? I hope not, I don't know where my inst. booklet is!

THE CD KEY WORKS FINE!!! As long as you can GET THROUGH to Ubisoft..
CDKEY VERIFICATION TIMEOUT... in other words your not able to connect with ubisoft it is not YOUR D&^N game or that the proper ports are not open, please quit treating us like idiots, we have tried all of the suggestions. The rest lies with Ubisoft. I too am getting very upset I bought the game for the online play, the second one my household owns. I will demand my money back if this problem does not get fixed.

Thanks for your reply ourtwosons. I have a question for you.
I can sometimes input my key 30 times with no success then all of a sudden it works, however I then get kicked after 10mins or so?
Is your problem different? Have you ever been connect at all?
(just trying to see if i have missed anything)

@2sons, as chapmand asks have you ever been able to connect?
What is your IP access config like wrt to firewall and routers etc.
Do you have soft firewalls?
What is your OS?
Have you confirmed with your ISP that the required ports are active for their network?
Not sure i follow the middle of your post; the biggest cause of not being able to talk to ubi is the ports being blocked somewhere enroute... If it works for thousands i am struggling to see what could be different at their end that is particular to you?

@chapmand
Have you seen the adjacent sticky on CD key is invalid? Is this what is happening to you?
If not pls describe exactly what happens when you get kicked? are you just kicked from the server or to the desk top? what error messages are reported?

hey guys...about the cd key-time out...

I had this problem for days, and MAYBE i got the answer...Or it is a part of it...
Once i was playing online and i was the host of the game, that is, the server. As being the server, your IP-adress is shown in the server lists, and some guys know how to track your IP.
One of the players even mentioned my first and last name during the game, and after that game things went wrong...As it comes to cd key time out stuff.
After using a spyware removal tool i got online without any problems.

IT SEEMED THAT SOMEONE HACKED MY COMPUTER BECAUSE HE GOT MY IP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe this is the reason that **** happens.

The cd key in use problem happened to me too, but only if you choose a server that playes on a map you dont have in your farcry/levels directory. After shutting down and restarting everything was fine again.

Hope this helps a little to anyone with the some problems.

I still wonder, why are the ip-adresses shown in the list? It only causes problems, and is of no use at all for the game itself...

Hi MadSt.,
Viewed from a hotel in Northern Sweden, with the distortion of a bottle of red wine (bugger me its expensive here!) i am afraid I am confused by the first bit of your discovery...

Like you say if you were hosting, your IP is availible to the public, what makes you think you were being hacked?

Its good that after running the spyware remover you were good to go tho' if that is hogging your link it certainly wont help!
Cheers:CuZ

Im from Norway, i know how expensive the wine is...

First of all, as one of the few, i try to help people with their issues mentioned over here. My computer was hacked, thats what my spyware detector told me. I run that program every day, it never told me that before until i hosted that particular game (read the post without wine, you know what i mean).

As it comes to your last sentence, i really dont understand a thing your trying to say. I`m only trying to help everyone over here, not pissing them off.

Greetz from someone who posted for the last time to this forum....

OMG...

Err me; lost for words... a first!

Sorry Bud, I'm NOT a moderator...

Just someone who loves the game and is genuinely trying to help people here like you imply. Thats why on buisness travel i have been keeping up with the happenings here.
Use the search to check my posts. You see 1/3 asking stupid questions, 1/3 having a joke with people (mostly) of like humor, 1/3 trying to answer the same questions i needed to ask for others in the position i was in.

Hence baffeld by your response. what in my post has pizzed you off?

Perhaps you misinterpret me, I am not in anyway bashing your post; I really dont follow what happened to you and i am intrigued!

My last para is meant to say "If you had spyware process (the spyware, not the detector)running in the background it wont help with respect to CD Key Validation time out if they are consuming all of your bandwidth"
Clearer now?

I hope you'll post again advising of what your detector was and what error was reported. Do you enable individual ports or do you disable your firewall when playing? Etc...

As regards Norway, not been there for about 4 years now, last place I visited was Bergen, like you say, very expensive but a nice city with a fascinating history...

Cheers; CuZ

I know your not a moderator...I thought at first, respect for the things you do on this forum.

What im trying to say is:

Whenever your the host of a game, its far to easy to hack your computer. I never had anything other running than Farcry when i was hosting. I runned the spyware detector afterwards. And...its easy to see when your computer is hacked, you should know. Especially, when your IP is made public.

Hope this clears things up,

The MadSaint

BTW: 4 years since Norway? Bergen is the place to be! Visit it at least once in two years Wink

Tnx M8 thats much appreciated... Thumbs Up

While you where editing etc i was consulting an (the? Wink2) expert thru Xfire.

His understanding is that you cannot be "hacked" by spyware so we would be interested to know what you got reported.
You sure we aren't at cross purposes?
Spyware Detector vs AntiVirus prog?

To para phrase the discussion I had;
"While spyware does track your internet usage it does not give information out about CD keys and stuff, it mainly gives away websites visited and what browser ur using.
CD Key info would need a Trojan or simialar virus.
The more spyware there is on ur system, the more your internet slows down as the information is eventually sent to numerous sites, but a FC server admin with your IP address CANNOT tell your CD Key.
There is another number to track inviduals by and that is called a GUID.
http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/G/GUID.html"

This contains other details as shown in the link but as far as I can tell, not your CDKEY.

Not sure if this helps with your problem? Confused

Like I said its good that you are okay now, but I'd like to know, if you can recall, the detector and msgs that you saw!

As for Bergen, promised my wife I'd take her there but it still hasn't happened. It's almost cheaper to go to the West Indies! Sad One day...

HELP ME!!! Before Christmas FC worked a dream, I never had any problems at all. I didnt have to configure my ports, anything, I just went online and it worked. But now I come back after a few months, and I find my account locked. After 2 weeks of trying I finally managed to get it to the stage where it would actually let me log on to the game, and it asks for my cd key. so I put it in and choose a server, and then I get the message 'your cd-key is already in use'. :S:S:S:S:S what am I supposed to do? someone please tell me what I've done wrong and how I can correct it. I love this game and I want to play it...
