I have just re-installed the original Far Cry just for kicks, but I've noticed that the games framerate drops to the single digits when I enter new areas, or even almost at random.

Now my computer is far from new, but it IS pretty much above the recommended requirements. Also I've beaten the game twice on my same rig without any framerate problems, but that was with my Radeon AIW 9700Pro. I now have a XFX 6600GT(slight upgrade I guess.)

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I like playing through the single player of this game every so often.

can't remember the names of my DVD drives off the top of my head

Also I did a FRESH install of Windows XP and I'm 98% sure that my drivers are up to date. Far Cry and L4D are the only games installed.. That and some virus/spyware removal tools and the usual home/office & media programs.

Again any help would be greatly appreciated. It's very frustrating seeing the game run so well in some parts only to have it come to a crawl at other parts, and its even MORE frustrating knowing that it never ran like this before, since I've played through it on the same computer.

To post DirectX Diagnostic information do the following.

more than half the time studders come from not defragging your hard drive after installing the game/patch. you said it studders entering a new area, that could DEFINITELY be the cause. if your files are fragmented, you have to search all over your hard drive to find the file it needs to load for the new area.

Also AD-Klaus my PC is defragged. I defrag almost everytime I install a game that's larger than 1GB... Unless the problem is how and how often I defrag?

Here's my routine:
After using spybot and AVG scans..
I turn off swapfile => restart => defrag => restart => put back at least 1GB to swapfile => defrag then restart. I got that "swapfile-defrag" idea from tweakguides.com

Patch back to 1.33 using it and try it. Does the stuttering still happen?

If Yes, edit your system.cfg file in the FarCry folder and change the log_verbosity to 8. Run FarCry for a few minutes and after its stuttered, exit.

Upload the game.log file to rapidshare and post a link here. (Dont copy and paste it here as it will be too big).

If it doesnt stutter after patching back to 1.33, then using the same tool (FCLoader) patch back to 1.4 and try it.

Check you dont have FSAA enabled (caused lag issues in Farcry) and also make sure you are not running HDR (set in the console \r_HDRRendering 0 )

Lastly, its it all maps of just one? If one, which one, if all, load the map up in the Editor (in the Bin32 folder) and when loaded, press CRTL+G and run around in the editor, does it do it there? (Dont save the map!!!)
