I came to the forums looking for an answer to the same question, so good luck!

I've been trying to set up a straightforward one on one deathmatch with a mate, but we can't seem to find each other on the multiplayer set up screen.

Sorry I can't help, but if I find an answer I'll let you know.

I was/am making my server this afternoon and getting what you had. So i read into all the files for doing a server/dedicated server. The 9999 problem and not being seen properly is that your modem router needs to have certain ports opened to allow games servers to work. Open up TCP: 40000-42999. UDP: 41005, 41006, 44000, 49001. I think prob only one or two of em are actually causing your probs. I have to wait till my ISP is running fast again later tonite Frown i have nearly 500k upstream (8mb downstream) and i sit pretty close to an exchange Smile - which is supposed to be okish for 8 players ...1mb upstream for 16 people it states....but sure more is better. Guess most with 8mb asdl have about 448....??? maybe less...or with 1 or 2mb - 256 upstream. Have to relise its not good to actually play the game off the same PC that is doing the serving too. U can run a dedicated server by opening up a dedicated server cmd in the far cry folder, without running far cry main. Anyhow....i've only just played round with it last hour, so i'm sure i'll get mine running fully...but i had mine showing up properly though ....just want to see if i can play at same time too in it! If your in a clan, why not pay a games company online to get a proper server with full upstream etc...spread the cost over clan members...really aint much and u can all play with decent pings. later fc people.

You may get good results placing the server machine in a DMZ. Your router should have the details on how to do that.

Well my port playing page is in Firewall...then under special applications. No doubt yours in under something called different. My router is a simply 3com wireless thing. Putting your client IP into DMZ will leave it open to hacker attacks - so only do that later if it doesn't run that well i'd say. Found a second PC myself to run a dedicated server from! Smile and my 1st pc for playing....now if only my ISP will get back to normal Frown btw....default setting for dedicated server cmd in far cry folder is set to LAN... so write in "SV_ServerType UBI" or add it to shortcut target.

Right. Seems this thing of doing servers on UBI is a big headache!

Last nite i had mine running perfectly. Put the pc running the game in the DMZ and opened all relavent ports. Opened up fine on UBI online list ...again and again...reloading it...playing around with setting etc. Had a few clan mates come in to test it out... and ok.

SO can someone in the know....tell me why its gone back to greyed out on 9999 at bottom of list today?! After changing nothing!! Can someone offer a clear outline of doing this dedicated server running...and also maybe outline WHERE the problems arise. Cause its bugging me, specially after it ran good and now won't! Help out there?

I have no idea then. I have mine working solidily now. Seems the port forwarding business is where it falls down, especially with more than one pc on an internal network through a router. Can you maybe borrow a friends router/modem and try out that way?
I've had several little rounds now. Although i have little set in the configs, i will start building up what's needed gradually. Have mine turned on at odd times in day, and i think usually i will have it on in late evenings uk time. Goes alittle bad with 8 people...but 5/6 people it still runs ok! Some people have ok pings too in mine...while some not so, but it still is playable for sure. I really hope the clan guys i know will want to start up a proper server paid for - they think is good to maybe use mine...but it is pants compared to proper paid ones! and i don't want "our server's better than your stupid little one" i'm only doing it for fun and to learn bout em. But i can understand why it don't feel like fun atm for u lilkenzie - don't give up just yet!
