I can't get Exile to run properly. I followed the instructions on the disc (making a Myst III folder, copying certain files over, etc.), and the game starts fine. It takes me to the main menu, and I can change the options and such, but when I click "New Game", it says I need to insert the DVD (when the DVD is already in the drive). Anyone know of a way to get the game to recognize the disc?

I'm running OS X 10.5 on a Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro.

There have previously been problems on dual-CPU and dual-core PowerMacs running Exile, although I don't recall this particular one. To play the game under Mac OS X on my PM Dual 2.7 GHz CPU G5, I had to download Apple's CHUD Tools. In System Preferences, a new item titled "Processor" will appear. Clicking on that will open a dialog box showing that CPU 2 is active. That box had to be unchecked in order to rid the game of regular periodic audio breaks.

There are also a couple of posts within this forum thread that might help you. Read down pretty far...

I installed CHUD and disabled the second core, but the game still isn't recognizing the drive. Like I said, the game opens and runs fine; it's just that the game thinks the Exile DVD isn't there, when it is.

This isn't a hardware problem, folks. This is a Leopard problem. I was running the game without so much as a hiccup until I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. Then it decided that it could no longer locate the DVD. I've uninstalled/reinstalled, looked for patches (nothing out there updates it beyond 1.27 which is what the 10th Anniversary DVD edition comes with), and messed with various system settings and even tried forcing it to work using UNIX commands in the Terminal. I've yet to find the answer to this problem and trust me I've tried every discussion forum that I could find as well as checking all the information on UBI's and Apple's websites.

Oh, just for your info I use a 1GHz G4 iBook with 640MB RAM, Mac OS X 10.5.1

t04st3r,

You are probably right. (Since I have a PowerMac, I am sticking with Tiger so I can continue to run Classic; otherwise for me, no MME, no Riven, nor many other valuable old apps.)

(Boot Camp doesn't run on a Power PC.)

Eh, there's always Boot Camp, which is what I've been using for my Myst fixes.

I had the same problem and found the answer - though not very satisfactory but nevertheless - you have to mount the 2 second disc of the cd-version of the game. It's pretty weird but it works. Some blunder though on behalf of the production that you cant use the dvd that comes along with the game. Hope you have the cd-version or can find one. Cheers Peter

Any update on this issue? I have OS 10.5, and just got the DVD version in the mail. But I also am having the "please insert DVD" problem.
