Yes, Sixgun, I understand your point which you have made many times before. You're hanging out for the perfect game, which has everything you would expect in a real situation, and Far Cry 2 looked promising but it won't be that game. Very few games even come close. But I think FC2 has a lot going for it.
I'm a detail Nazi and I really appreciate games that have been nailed down to the T more than most people. I get a thrill from seeing things behave exactly as they would in real life. So please don't accuse me of having no grip on reality, because that doesn't even make sense. FC2 can still be a really immersive game without lions. I mean, GTA4 totally works and it has zero animals, except pigeons, whereas realistically there should be heaps of cats and dogs. I know New York's not comparable to the African savannah, but you're more likely to see cats and dogs in NYC than lions in Africa, yet they're not there. And yet, it works.
I'm just saying have a little faith. This is a game you should look forward to, and I'm sure you do. But anyways, point taken.

So what's the point of their having taken pictures of animals they don't intend to use in the game or mentioning it in the title of this thread after there's been much heated debate over why there won't actually be any real presence of some of the more feared African wildlife? Kinda like an awkward tease isn't it? .
You're right, perhaps it is a tease and I apologize for that. That was certainly not the intent, but despite the fact that lions will not be present in the game it's still pretty awesome to have the experience to be mere feet away from lions without walls separating you from them. Most people, including me, will never have such an experience so I kind of equate it to a crazy story one would tell a friend about things that happened to them.

Predators eating all the herbivores is their main claimed reason, though the endangered species thing was mentioned too before in threads talking about it.
The former has been refuted by many of us due to other games such as STALKER having already pulled it off without consequence. It's merely a matter of scripting areas for each species and/or limiting how many herbivores can be killed in X amount of time. I think one responder said Oblivion uses such methods.

...I think you are also disregarding a bit what Far Cry 2 is. My personal opinion is that with a FPS you can only expect so much realism.
Actually I think you are misunderstanding what Far Cry 2 is claimed to be. It's never been touted as a mere FPS but rather FPS/RPG hybrid. I however have made the argument that with the primary focus being fighting with factions it might as well be a dime a dozen FPS with a rather unrealistic setting to boot. Ubi has even claimed they are not going to make "hardcore shooters" anymore, though they seem to be doing their best to keep Africa the stereotypical drug/weapon running shootout which is only a small percentage of what Africa is really about. If I want a story that shallow I can read or watch the news, which is always biased toward controversy.
It would be rather amusing and fitting to the premise were they to interrupt the action periodically with mock journalist reports as if to say this kind of fighting is what the whole of Africa is about. The fact is there are only a few dictator types that embroil certain small countries in Africa in such wars. It's no wonder lots of people abroad think Africa is not worth giving aid to. Even some countries whom have given them aid end up exploiting them more than helping them, like the De Beers diamond business started by British owners. I seriously doubt painting Africa as a continent overrun by drug and gun cartels is doing them any good either.
As far as telling crazy campfire stories Kimi, they're nothing to brag about, so you really aren't missing anything by not having had such an experience. Wildlife is very exploited too, and often times people get malled as a reminder they're not pets to play with. I'd say maybe the Ubi crew got lucky, but next time if there is one, maybe not. The Earth is mankind's domain, but not to do with as he pleases.
