My system spec looks like this: e6750 x2 2.66ghz,4 gigs of ram, 8800 gt, asus P5K motherboard. Is this enoung for high settings and over 20 fps? I have vista btw. I think that this should enough. One big thing in far cry 2 is grass in savannah. Quess you all have been noticed how smooth and thick it is and how well it moves with wind. But one thing. How many can run it with longest distance and fully detailed. Hopefully they optimize it well becoase its very important to me. First game which grass looks cool

I do have one question. Are you using the 64 bit version of Vista?
Regardless, I think you're good; better than good actually. Your PC is borderline state of the art. There's not much more you can do to improve it. CPU wise, even if you bought one of the new Penryn's it isn't going be that big of an improvement over the CPU you have now. You've got an 8800GT and if you went to the 8800GTS 512MB you'd get a few more shader units but again those additional shader units aren't going to do much for you. Overall you've made wise choices with you hardware: nice motherboard, 4GB RAM (good move), fast CPU, excellent video card. Plus, you've made the jump to Vista and you'll be able to enjoy DX10 which will really make the game shine. I will be using a very similar system. Like Crysis I expect a rig like this will allow you to play Far Cry 2 around 1280x1024. That's not an ultra high resolution like 1900x1200 but it will still look outstanding. Besides, it's better to play at a medium resolution with settings at very high than a high resolution with settings at medium or low. |

Yes I have vista 64 bit. Is there big problems with that?

No, as long as your hardware manufacturers provide good drivers. |

Im sorry but what do you mean. Im from finland and my englsih is kind a bad so i would be thankful if you could clear your point:P sorry |

I've got a 8800GT, Dual core AMD, and 2 gigs of RAM. I can run Crysis at high settings (not very high) without lag, so I'm guessing I'll be able to run this the same too. Far Cry 2 hopfully wont be as demanding as Crysis, since it's on consoles too, so I'm hoping I'll be able to run it at near highest settings.

no problem One of the most common problems with XP/Vista 64bit operating systems is poor driver support for computer hardware. As long as you have good drivers for your computer hardware on the Vista 64bit operating system you should be fine. |

Aaah. Ok thanks a lot

just wanted to say thanks for all of the posts.

Atm my system specs are:
Intel QX9650 @ 4GHZ Asus Maximus Formula 4GB Ultra Low Latency HyperX DDR2 800Mhz Creative SB X-Fi EVGA GForce 8800GT Vista Ultimate 64bit / WIndows XP Pro (Dual boot) only concern i have is my videocard, i am thinking of getting me a 9800GX2 in the next few weeks, as it does have a nice increase in FPS with a lot of games, including Crysis. But it has no DX10.1, this is what makes me wonder if it's a good move, will FarCry 2 make use of this? no clue. Greets, Richard. |

What is deffenece between dx10 and dx10.1? I have vista and 8800gt which is dx10 so if fc2 will be dx10.1 does it work on my computer?
|

The differences are minor. Features that are optional in DX 10 are now mandatory in DX 10.1. For example the hardware must now support 4x AA which improves image quality. But 10.1 is not a major upgrade like DX 9 to DX 10. Your 8800GT will run Far Cry 2 just fine. Far Cry 2 will not require DirectX 10.1 to run.
DX 10.1 is a minor improvement over DX 10. Even if Far Cry 2 takes advantage of some of the features in DX 10.1 it's not going to look very different or play any different than the DX 10 version. The PC version of Assassin's Creed is a good example. It supports DX 10.1 but you really wouldn't know it if you played it. There is a big difference between DX 9 and DX 10 and it's a good thing you made the jump to Vista because DX 10 will allow you to get the most out of Far Cry 2. |

IceT-Bag, I haven't heard anything about when the next round of video cards are due from ATI or Nvidia. With the 9800GX2's debut only a few months ago I wouldn't expect another high end offering from Nvidia until the end of this year. What are you hearing? |

Dr_Cube:
A mate who is usually 'up to date' on the hardware scene mentioned ATI have something new in the pipeline that will be out later this year. I'll try to find out more and post back here, but if I remember correctly it will give the top line Nvidia cards a run for their money. EDIT OK, I believe he was talking about the ATI 4800 series, namely the 4870X2 which apparently yields better performance than the GeForce 9800X2. I dont have a clue what is being said on the following link, but the pictures dont need translation http://www.bilgiustam.com/512mb-ati-hd-4870rv770-1gb-ge...dmark-2006-testleri/ I havent bothered googling for more info, so there may be numerous other reviews/comparisons of the card. Note that the above review would seem to suggest they compared the dual GPU 9800X2 with the single GPU 4870, though there is a dual-gpu 4870X2 due out (maybe they made a typo - or its fake?). |

Ok that does look promising if that is Real information and not fake. Then the Ati 4870X2 will be my choise as i can put these in CrossFire on my Motherboard Thanks for this, Have not even heard a thing about the 48xx series, i hope there will be some official info soon. Greets. |

|
Latest info is that the ATI hd4800 series and Nvidia 9900 series are due to be released over June/July with the 4870X2 expected August.
The quoted benchmarks are supposedly for the 4870, not the x2 version, but there are some inconsistencies (although performance wise the 4870 is supposed to leave the 3870 for dead so it may not be too far out) Not much solid info on either ATI or Nvidia offerings yet but the early Nvidia offerings are thought to be 65nm and very power hungry/hot, compared to ATI's 55nm. |
