so if you overclock the 8800gts it will be somewhere as fast as the 9800? i was planning to buy a gt |

Well I do expect when the retail 9800 cards come out that they will prolly gain some 3dmarks from drivers, but overall yes, I think the 8800GTS(G92)/GT/GTX are going to be competitive with it, I mean come on, the 9800GX2 is just two 8800GTX's slapped together, that kind of tells you what nvidia is doing with the 9800 series if you ask me.
Oh and for the OC thing, yeah def, I have my GTS @ 750/2200, that outdoes the 8800GTX in a lot of cases. 12/30/2006 XXXXDDDD I miss you. "But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise" -1 Cor 1:27 |

the 9800 sound tempting but I'll pass just cause I went from the 640GTS to the Ultra and then the 512. As nice as EVGA setup program is I have to quit doing this to myself. Besides, I can sling another 512 and be set for a long while.

I would stick with the 8800gt

Not sure who you mean but the GTS is not that much more... http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_8800_gts_512mb/ |

If I were you, I'd swap any 8800GT for 9600GT. Only card that beats the 9600GT is 8800 Ultra.

Yes, I was deciding on the GTS or GT, GTS will come through on the higher resolutions.
EDIT: Say what about the 9600GT? 12/30/2006 XXXXDDDD I miss you. "But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise" -1 Cor 1:27 |

He HAD to be joking. I'd swap a HD 3870 for 9600GT. |

They call me the Retro Boy cause I got a S478 P4 Extreme @ 3.7Ghz and a Gainward Golden Sample 7800gs+ @ 500MHz/700MHz and I'm running Crysis at medium settings and getting average FPS of 49. My mates who all jumped on the Core 2 Duo and PCIe bandwagon still give me a hard time but until I can afford the equivalent Quad Core Extreme I'm staying with my current setup - who said AGP was dead!! BTW I picked up a brand new IC7 Max 3 MB on eBay recently - Can't help myself. |

I think I'm gonna have to swap out my crappy pentium 4 2.0 ghz for a quad core.

LoL i just found out that a new MotherBoard (with sli) and 2 8800 GT's will be cheaper than the 9800gx2 (hell yeah) (something about €480
Instead of €500(or more) for the 8800gx2) lol need to know price for the 9800GTX/GT/GTS LoL just saw that FC2 comes in Fall 2008 i'm kinda losing it wasted this much money for nothing (kinda bought it to play wic reasonable but the 8500 in it wasn't that good...) Just hope they won't change alot This message has been edited. Last edited by: FantasmaOfDoom, |

quad core should be able to handle top specs right?
|
||||

i would say yes |

I think I'm gonna buy the Nvidia 8800gt I'm not a big enough spender for an ultra.

That being the case then your making the best choice. Though you shouldn't be debating between the GT and the Ultra if $$ is the issue cause thats a no brainer. I'd think it would be between the GT and the newer GTS 512mb imo.

To be honest with you I don't believe there is that much of a difference between the two so in sticking with the gt. However you may have a different opinion.

Well stock there is not much of a difference,(5fps or so) but where the 8800GTS steps ahead is in overclocking, it overclocks like nobodys business, and with that, you can pass the GTX and even the Ultra in some cases.

I don't think I'm disagreeing with you...maybe I misunderstood. No difference between the Ultra and GTS 512? In performance or price. I thought you picked the GT over the Ultra primary due to $$ which is a major difference. Excuse me if I was confused with what you ment. 8800GT $199-$249 8800GTS 512 $299-$349 Ultra $699 All I'm saying is from $$ stand point the Ultra out of the equation. Performance wise has already been mentioned. Anyway, between the Ultra and your choice of the GT....the GT is the best choice. |
