An example:
I was sneaking up to an outpost in the jungle and I saw this guy hurry over behind a tree sort of across from me. I was wondering 'Did he see me?'. I couldn't see him any more because he was obscured by the foliage. I thought maybe he had just gotten lost and didn't know what he was doing, stupid AI... So I kept moving up towards the outpost and out of the corner of my eye, I saw the guy running low to take cover behind another tree. I turned to try and get a shot at him, but he was completely concealed. The guy was stalking me along my flanks. To test this theory, I took a bunch of steps back in the direction I had come and the guy ducked out from his hiding and scuttled back to the previous tree he was hiding behind. Wow, this guy is stalking me. So I played along with his game, pretending I hadn't seen him. I went up close to the outpost and started firing upon the guys who were sitting around unaware of me. And when they turned on me, the sneaky guy jumped out from across/behind me and started shooting. So I was pincered in crossfire. This is just one of the more stand-out examples of excellent AI behaviour. This is the best AI I've ever seen. Please feel free to share your own stories of your experiences with the AI. |

An example:
The NPC are using Wallhacks. If you kill someone with a silincer no one cares about the dead bodys on the floor. They are running like a bunch of monkeys to hunt you down, no real team AI. They are freaking stupid, sometimes they dont even do anything just running in front of you looking at you and after that starting to shot (but by that time you allready boom headshoted him twince) They are able to see you even if they can not and start shooting before they are seeing you (i would bann someone on a server because of that, wallhack says hello) besides that, the AI is ok, not super stupid they are trying to get cover and stuff like that, but not as good as you are trying to make it. |

The AI, at least on the PC is heavily under-rated by forumers here. I`m on hardcore and whenever I get more than a couple of enemies on me it becomes a tough cat and mouse game.
They use cover excellently and almost never (at least on hardcore) get caught out in the open. Even 1 on 1 can be a pain among the bushes and you can hear him taunting you. I love the bits where they say things like `How many are there?` and later they start to figure out that there`s only one of you. That`s when things get difficult because then they begin to try flanking you. More times than not I`m caught from the sides or rear by some flanker and I have to back pedal hard to get out. Usually once caught I get wasted. I`ve even started attcking at night just to try and make things a little easier for myself! All they need to do is drop once shot at least twice in the chest and it`be prefect! At the moment grenades do a good job. |

I also play on Hardcore and man, i just LOVE the AI, i cant understand why everyone is whining about the AI, because i just they all play on Easy and Normal and yea... then they are dumb ****, but real man play on Hardcore and then the AI in F.E.A.R. is nothing! |

Something else i`ve noticed is that if I`m in the driver`s seat I`ll get shot at by AI like crazy, but as soon as I jump to the machine gun on top they jump into cover! Sometimes I have to wait quite bit before one decides to pop his head out.
AI always gets the bad rap mostly because people play on Easy or don`t really understand what`s going on. They just knee-jerk react. They should try playing Hell`s Highway, the AI in that is really bad. |

*Apologies for bumping a very old thread, but I couldn't resist replying.*
I totally agree with you bongomast3r, and others too. The enemy AI is pretty much decent in Far Cry 2. I'm impressed by the way they flank the player and take cover effectively. I won't go into details, but there have been many gameplay instances, where I have been lucky enough to deceive the Mercs and/or sneak past the guard posts. I just saw this thread of yours, so I thought of sharing my personal experience. Once while sniping a camp from high ground, I took almost 5-6 mercs in that area. But that didn't do the job, as the camp had at least 10-11 enemies (roughly). So I waited for almost 10-15 minutes, but NO merc came out, as they were taking cover and were unaware of my presence. I was sniping with the Dart Rifle. 'Good for Stealth'. But I was getting impatient somehow, so I took out the Uzi/Mac-10 and fired a few shots in the air, and YES, 2-3 nearby mercs came out from their hiding, and started to move towards my direction. And I was under enemy fire again. The other remaining Mercs were still trying to figure out my location (LOL). I mean, It's FUN playing FC2, and it's even cool when the AI makes the game more immersive. That's all. Apologies again for this post. Happy Gaming, Daniel. |

Yeah guyz,
I have seen some neat stuff, got a few good Xfire videos. One of my favorite things is snipeing an enemy combatant, then watching his buddy run over, pick him up, then carry him into a house to heal him. I mean yeah I can shoot both of um on the way in, but the fact that they do this is better then AI I have seen in many, many other games. IRONY STATEMENT: PROPS TO UBISOFT -EggZ =RuC=EggZ |

I must admit, I was a little overenthused with the game when I wrote that post last year, but I stand by the AI being very good.
Sure it may not look as good on the surface as the AI in FEAR or COD, but those games are hugely scripted. It's like, "Wow, those guys just pushed over a vending machine to take cover behind it", but they were always going to do that. It's not AI so much as scripted code. The AI in FC2 is in a completely open sandbox and yet they still behave quite realistically. This, in my opinion, is a much greater achievement than in the aforementioned games. There is still a long way to go for AI in computer games, but FC2 was a brave step in the right direction. Let's hope FC3 continues in the same direction. |

Totally Agreed, bongomast3r.
FEAR's AI was always predictable, even though the enemies behaved in a different manner. Another decent enemy AI behavior can be seen in the game 'Alpha Prime'. http://www.alpha-prime.com/ Cheers. |

The AI is really good at hardcore, the only reason I played it on normal(first playthrough) is that I couldn't get any kills with my Silent Makarove, I could only get headshots, so my range was really limited. If you learn to land all your shots the game gets really fun.
Just a little side note, this game needs some kind of option of buying larger magazines or more powerful rounds\better guns that serve the same purpose. |

Yep , they can flank. Yep , once you learn that , it doesn't seem like they are all that smart anymore.
Yeah they know to hide behind a tree. Yeah, you can send some grenades back there so they don't get lonely. They also will stand right in front of you and stare instead of shoot. They also talk , you know , just so you know there are some still in the area. The AI is ,at best, average. Only partially braindead some would say. Blah blah about the difficulty. The stuff I mentioned is the same on ALL difficulties . "Real men play on hardcore " LMFAO Wow I play on hardcore ! That has to be the most lame thing to brag about on any game ever made . I don't give a rats *** if you can beat it on infamous while wearing a blindfold. I prefer to play on hardcore , but who gives a damn ?? I'm sure people enjoy this game on easy and normal, why belittle them for that??As long as they are having fun, what else matters?? rant :| |

No offense at all, but I don't find his post to be funny. The enemy AI behavior in FC2 does differ on the difficulty level you play, and they act according to that. The difference is noticeable. And it's also a matter of personal choice. Some prefer a more challenging approach to a gameplay, and find more fun playing that way. Whereas others don't. I don't think he actually meant to taunt others who play on easy/casual or the normal difficulty. Far Cry 2's AI is far better than other titles I have played so far. As bongomast3r also told, to quote his post, 'There is still a long way to go for AI in computer games, but FC2 was a brave step in the right direction'. Period. Cheers. |

I wish they'd put in a hardcore mode in single player, so I can enjoy the great AI without having to empty 2 magazines from my makarov to kill them. I also always feel guilty that I just took 10 rounds and didn't die. Wish this game required more cover taking, maybe a leaning system.
|

They do utilize cover pretty well, most of the time. I play on normal though.
Im new, got it saturday, Oct 31. |
||||
|
But it isn't that necessary, you can step out and take 4 rifle rounds and heal in 5 seconds. I want a more tactical game, 5 to 6 shots means you're dead. That's stretching it, so maybe make healing somehow infinite(you can pull out 3 bullets, but more than that you'll need syrettes)

I started a PC discussion called FarCry 2 lulz.
But I often see the AI screw themselves over with the vehicles. The AI would be far more difficult to be up against if they just didn't use cars. But on the other hand, that'd be plain boring as well. I've also had enemies spawn inside of rocks a few times in the second area, able to shoot me through the ground while I couldn't shoot them. |
