You may have already seen our recent blog entry introducing you to our game engine. (If you haven't seen it yet, go go go!) When we created this video we were still waiting on some confirmations, which is why it was not stated in the video.

We're happy and excited to announce that the name of our rockin' engine is...(drum roll) Dunia!

Now you may ask, "What does Dunia mean and why did you pick it?"

After going through countless different name possibilities we finally decided on Dunia because it means "world" or "earth" in Swahili. Open...wide...just like our game!

Can you explain where the name comes from and give some details of its provenance?

We were going to name it Portchyboy engine but decided on something a bit more macho.

Dunia is an arabic word not Swahili.it's written دنیا in arbaic and is being used in other languages like Persian.

this is very good news! ..unfortunetly im a console gamer ...hey kimi..could you possibly answer us one question?...could modern consoles such as, xbox 360 and PS3 handle this amazing engine "Dunia" ..if you cannot answer this i understand ..me and im sure allloott more people are just DYING TO KNOW

i believe the word Dunia is used in many more languages as well.. coz in Hindi also it means the same thing

Cleveland or Windsor would've been better.

"Dunia" has 13,800,000 hits on Google in .08 sec so I think someone got to it first guys.

Cryengine 2 got 413,000 gets my vote, much more original.

As for the Antipodes I'm hoping for an Oz setting one day, maybe FarCry6!?

Yes.... He is right.... It's Arabic word and is being used in persia (Farsi) language.

How come the engine is so similar to Cryengine 2?

Breakable branches, soft shadows (judging from the low quality video I saw), day/night cycles. Why?!!??!!?

Those are just a natural progression in "real world" games. Source has a real time day night cycle its just not used in Half Life2. Im still confused on where when why who decided to make a new engine when they had the cryengine there...? Or maybe they really started prior to securing the rights to the engine? Or maybe the "new" engine is just a rebuild of code using Cry1 as the foundation? It would be nice to learn some of these details..!

I believe it's because they used Cryengine 1 and have just rewriten the code to make there own "Cryengine2" or Dunia Engine!
