Agree

Crysis has opt. problems and yet those cards play the game (some better than others). FC2 devs will hopefully have learned from Crysis's issues and lets not forget we are dealing with a different engine. We haven't heard for sure much of anything other than somewhat vague general requirements (imo) so I wouldn't worry about the GTX/GTS/GT/ULTRA being able to handle the game, besides.....there is the new G92 8800's! I say that if my 8800GTS 512mb card can handle Crysis on close to Very high (1680x1050) settings at around 30fps, it should handle pretty much every game in the next 2 years at high settings.

It could be worse. You could have the X1950 PRO AGP!! Wink
Anyway all the 8800's are going to cost you some major $$ so I wouldn't buy a lower end one just so you can play FF2 good. If you can afford it then the GTX or Ultra...better yet the new G92 8800GTS 512MB so you won't need to upgrade so quickly. No matter which card you end up getting...make sure its from EVGA so you can take advantage of the stepup program should you find a need to upgrade again......and you will as we ALL WILL!! Demonic

Right now I would shoot for this one, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130325 259US for the same card I got for 339US, granted it game free with Crysis, If thats too much for your budget then go for the 8800GT 512mb.

My advice: If you're buying a card specifically for this game, wait until a more reliable release date has been announced. 8800's will be much cheaper by then, or there may be even better cards for cheaper by then.

Don't make the same mistake I did. I bought one a full year ago in anticipation of Crysis, which only came out a few months ago.

Sound advice since no one knows for sure when we will get our hands on the game. I'd wait till an official release date & requierements are given.

I really really hope far cry2 can run on a GeForce 8800 GT XXX (512mb)...

Not true. You can buy the BFG GeForce 9600 GT today. I think Best Buy are selling them early..so people are saying.
I guess these pics proves it.

Don't worry Fantasma, I'm sure that card will run FC2 beautifully (but I base that on absolutely nothing more than my word). Maybe not absolute max, but damn near it, i would think.

It's hard i know, you can only hold out for so long until you bite the bullet and go buy a new card, with the epically slow passage of good PC games these days.

Is a giga-flop bigger than a flip-flop?

pretty scared though... Big Grin but will there change so much in a couple of months? i mean it's not that they suddenly will say now you need a 9000 thing? I thought "if it can run crysis it can run far cry 2..." Big Grin

don't need those high resolutions so that helps alot too? (17" screen right now Big Grin) planning to buy a 19" widescreen someday... still not really high resolutions?

As mentioned by others....things change very quickly especially when it comes to video cards. nVidia seems to pump them out like a wefare mother pumps out kids! Big Grin The G92 8800 series just came out and now there releasing the 9XXX series....jeezz. By the time you get your top-of-the-line card in the mail its already old technology! Sad Eyes

I agree about not worrying about FC2. I reccommend the G92 EVGA 8800GTS 512MB card for value and performance. I must admit I'm one of those that loves to get the newest thing out there. Not for bragging rights but to test the new technology. I have always been a hardware guy and love to study and tweak something new. If I do get a a 9XXX card it won't be for FC2 but just to play with it.

I can run Crysis on high with no AA on an old 8800 GTS 640 MB at 1680x1050, with almost no lag (except during intense parts). The one that was outperformed by the 8800 GT. So if FC2 is less demanding than Crysis, I would say a new 8800 would easily be able to run it.

I also read that since nVidia bought Ageia, they will be releasing a software update that enables any 8 series card to run PhysX, without needing to buy a PhysX card. So if you're interested in PhysX (looks pretty cool to me), then that could be another reason to get an 8800.
