Far Cry 2 delay - 1 month only

"Ubisoft delays 2008 shooters
Wednesday 12-Dec-2007 2:50 PM Haze, Far Cry 2 and Brothers in Arms all see slippage in 2008
14 Comments
Ubisoft has offloaded its weekly release schedule, revealing a handful of delays for its 2008 shooters Far Cry 2, Haze and Brothers in Arms.

As if we didn't know already, the French publisher has confirmed that Free Radical shooter Haze won't make it into the shops this year, and is now destined for release in "early 2008".

Meanwhile Far Cry 2 has seen a month delay, putting its release back to March - though from what little we've seen of it so far we'll be impressed if it even makes it out that early.

The really bad news is that Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway has been delayed again - though only on PlayStation 3. PS3 owners will now have to wait until March for the Gearbox shooter - one month later than Xbox 360 and PC gamers.

Isn't it about time Xbox 360 and PS3 games actually came out at the same time?"

Well as much as we all would like to see it asap, its important they get it right (the best they can) before the release. Less bugs and other technical issues = less patches = more enjoyment.

Ubi analyst report and call said FC2 was coming in fiscal 2009, which I would believe more than any website posting.

Ubisoft considers their 2009 fiscal year to start from April 2008 and go until March 2009. This means the earliest we would see it would be April, not March. It could slip further to the June timeframe mentioned in the last post.

I agree that I would rather have them get it right than rush it. And this delay may explain why we have not seen much info, details, HD walkthroughs, etc. The 'real' stuff really starts coming out a month or two before launch for most games.

Considering Ubi just knocked their earnings out of the park due to Assassins Creed, this may also have been a strategic move to strengthen their next fiscal year by having FC2 sales show up there. Who knows?!?!? Just hoping the delay is more strategic than technical.

Although moving the game’s release date back was a difficult thing to do, keep in mind that this decision will allow for the game to be even better. With the success of Assassin’s Creed, moving us out of this fiscal year to the next will inevitably result in a product with more features and content, less bugs, and a very high level of quality and polish.

I hate waiting for games too, but it happens, and we're usually better off for it! (although I'm not sure about Duke Nukem Forever...) Wink

Although we want to get our hands on the game ASAP I can't agree more. Pushing for a release this fiscal year (for other then game related purposes) will not benefit the game. Apparently current results at Ubi are good enough for them to allow some developers (/teams) to work longer on their game and polish and perfectionise it even more. Very sensible decision.

So no delay for Assassin's Creed PC yet? Maybe it will be available before FC 2. The timing may actually be better for me if the rumors of the 9800GTX coming in Feb '08 are true. I might have my uber rig built by the time the games I want most come out! Heck, I haven't even bought Crysis or CoD4 yet, still waiting for better pricing as I only play sp and they're short games. For that matter Crysis hasn't even been patched yet.

As Arres said, it is disappointing to have a delay but the devs will use this time to make the game shine. I hate delays as well, but Far Cry 2 will get better with age.

You will not be disappointed, just keep holding on!

If you look at all the delays in the last few years on games not many of them have resulted in a better product. God forbid I should mention STALKER, it's like a bad omen. Lately delays are all about unforseen technical and/or financial problems, which often make matters worse. Even with the delay the chaos that often results from the problems causing it ends up being less time for them, not more.

I believe that they ended the game - the creative part of the game - . Some developers with contact with the community like Kimi leave the team and go to other projects .

According to what Clint Hocking said in an interview, the first Alpha of the game was in September. In November they has the version Alpha according some developers. I have one far source about this Wink . Very far but source

Rumor : 5 months delay

AC has given so much money to Ubi that, in spite of the fact that the Farcry 2 is almost finished.
has delayed the launch 5 months for not to risk and to leave the polished game 100 %.

As long as such a delay go toward further DEVELOPMENT and not legal matters of somethign of the like.

Like... making sure that widescreen is properly supported.

But it mae turn out to a good thing in the end, as there are a couple other games I ahve to buy in March, so it'll give me time to finish those :>

I would like them to keep it for a month to get any bugs out, and make it an even better game. I been hearing that Carver will be a playable character, is that true?
