Hello guys,
I have a laptop having this config: -Toshiba Satellite p100-10p laptop -Intel Dual-Core 2.13GHZ -2GB ram -Nvidia 7900GS 512MB -200GB HDD -17" Widescreen TFT display -19" LCD display (external) -Vista Premium 32bit (Genuine) But, In my free time I like to play some games on MP. Im happy with my system, but its not a gaming PC. Crysis can run on 30fps only on low settings, what is very annoying me. Also, new games like Splinter Cell DA, Test Drive Unlimited run on high settings, but FPS falls to 10 every few seconds, which makes the gameplay suck. So, Im thinking about solution to have high performance and high quality. I bet the Intel 2x Quard core and 3Sli Nvidia 9600 would defly solve the problem, but I dont have money. The max I can afford right now is Xbox360, but it doesn't have Nvidia card (which annoys me since Im Nvidia fan), and its probably little out of dated hardware. So, I want a suggestion. Is Xbox360 better than my current laptop configuration. Shall I buy it, or wait for new PC? Thanks in advance, Jan P.S. Posting this here, since I know there are many hardware "geeks" who can solve my problem. |

Since you're so dead set on getting an "Nvidia card," why don't you get a PS3; that has an Nvidia card. Heh.
The PS3 is newer and more powerful than the Xbox 360, and might run Far Cry 2 better. |

Hell NO. I rather die than buy PS!
I just wanna know if I will get any better quality/performance with Xbox 360 comparing with my current PC (So I know if I shall get 360 or new PC). |

Hi Jan,
Below is my view from a little reading around, I dont think I qualify for the true geek status you mention, so perhaps someone with better knowledge can correct or embelish what I say here Your current GPU is very similar in terms of raw power to the X360 GPU. (Assuming it has the full 512 and not 256 dedicated 256 shared like my NVS120) You will however get very different performance depending on how a program has been optomised. The X360 is great at unified shaders (US), which is something your GPU doesnt support, but ironically you OS via DX10 does. A DX10 PC and GPU however I believe can get all the benefits of US while still producing pixel and vertex shaders for those extra special effects. Your machine can only do Pixel and Vertex, so you can wind up the appearance settings and it will look stunning, but due to the bottle neck of the card and the mixed instruction architecture you get the FPS hit you have seen. This is why if you want to be a PC gamer, a desktop is always a better option since you can upgrade the GPU... So to answer the question Low end PC vs Xbox: Not a clue! Wait until you see some benchmarks and reviews It is also worth noting that UBI appear to have a partnering agreement with Philips and Intel, but I dont remember seeing anything for ATI/AMD or Nvidia yet. (Yeah I know its hard to see them using ATI right now but who knows....) HTH |

Thanks CuZtds_Lst_Stnd,
Nice answer. On my laptop I have 512MB full and 256 dedicated, so 7900GS can use 768MB, but this doesn't help me, since Crysis runs on low shader model and quality only, and in laptops you cant upgrade GPU. There is yet one thing...Physics I love Physics in games, and in Crysis, I loved it. Is the physics same on PC and Xbox? (since Xbox has 3 cores, I assume there are no problems with such calculations)... |

On Nvidia forums they told me that 360 could run Crysis on medium-high settings. Is that true? Because if Xbox 360 really handles CryEngine2 on medium-high settings, than I WANT IT.
My PC handles CryEngine on Low settings only. Well, when Im finally sure I want to buy Xbox 360, I discover I live in 100% retarded country, where is impossible to buy 360... I will have to go to Italy next month to get 360... |

Crysis isnt available for the XBOX 360 so no-one can say with accuracy what settings the console could run the game at.
A console version of the CryEngine2 is in progress though, but what technical differences there are between the console engine and pc engine are unknown, nor is it known if Crysis would be released on the consoles once the CryEngine 2 has been successfully ported. Another unknown is how the Dunia engine for FC2 compares with the CryEngine2 in terms of performance on given hardware specs. |

Ok, thats all I wanted to know...
Thanks guys... |

Yeah will see how that goes when both versions are tested lol. @OP: Id say get a 360 tbh, I have a decent PC (and 360) and im still debating on which to get, ill prolly go ahead and get the PC ver, unless its horribly optimized. Also im an nvidia fan as well, but overall IMO the 360's GPU has its advantages. 12/30/2006 XXXXDDDD I miss you. Hmmmmm I like my xbox, love the community and stuff. Well I hope your ride to italy is nice.

NO dude, you gotta get PS3 or both. I have both and I play my PS3 way more, it has better games, free online, more features and it's more powerful. Never been happier with a console. |
||||
|
both can run it, ps3 has a edge though in terms of storage and proc power... i know they will have to sacrifice stuff , and they might even sacrafice more to make both versions i dentical...

I have no opinion on which console will be better...I'll leave that up to you guys who use them but as far as the PC version goes I don't think it will be horribly optimized at all. They have plenty of time to see that doesn't happen and have Crysis's mistakes to learn from..besides that fact its a totally different engine.
