I have a xbox 360 ( is it coming for the 360? )and what I want to know is about the map editor. That editor makes Far Cry far a head of any game out there. Halo with it's forge just lets you move objects around the room. Lame compared to Far Cry's editor. Thats the selling point here boys! If there was a tunneling option, it would open another demension in making maps. Once again, this is the thing that puts far cry above and beyond any game out there and what should be the main selling point! I'm sure others would agree. No game lets you make such a detailed landscape and then play in it. So anything new on the editor. Any body have other ideas that would make the editor better.

Actually, Far Cry doesn't have a very good map editor. It's definitely the best one on consoles, but you can do so much more with about any computer editor. Cryengine2 has Flowgraphs, Source has an I/O system, etc. There's a lot more to the map than you see in the Far Cry editor.

Welcome to the Forums MasMayhem and Mr_Poppalopolis,
Console level editors have always been the runty cousins of PC Level Editors. Some games have done a great job of filling this gap though e.g. Time Splitters, Far Cry, Halo 3 Forge(It is not really a level editor, so cannot really be compared to other level editors. It is more of a map customisation tool) If anyone has played around with Unreal Ed, or other gaming editors, you know that they are not the easiest things to start out with. Most people start with their first level being a big cube with smaller cubes inside it Console Level Editors give you the tools you need to make a fun and interesting level, without the need to create all of the geometry, physics, textures etc. For the first Console Far Cry games, it was easy to just throw in some vehicles, a few trees, throw in some weapons and away you go. UT3 is going a way towards this by providing a link between the PC Editor and transferring to the consoles, but most stand alone editors for the consoles are designed to try not to confuse first time users, but offer enough tools to let advanced people do what they want. |

Maybe we can have mods downloadable from the pc as well. Or maybe a mission editor. It would appear that the stock map is big enough to create new missions on.

Yo Raide, thanks for the input. True, PC games kick ass on 360, PS3 type consuls. Graphics, size of game map and all. Call me a simpleton, but I like the compact controls that a console offers. Nothing like having it all in my hands when the heart rate is up and I'm on the edge of button smashing. I just always wondered why the first Far Cry did not use the editor it has in it's marketing blitz. Though the 360 Far Cry may not have the extent of the PC editor. It still ( in my humble opinion ) goes far compared to other games I have seen. I'll need to hunt down those games you mentioned. Thanks for the heads up on those. Look forward to Far Cry 2 hitting the console market.

A good idea for the map editor, is to have an "Easy To Use" editor on the consoles, and have a pc based one for the computer, thus you can connect the concel and computer, so that people playing on computer mad maps can play with the people playing over a concel, thus makeing 2 different editors for the game.
COMPUTER EDITOR=ADVANCED Concel= BEGINNER prefferable i like the easy to use editors, i have made ALOT of nice and great looking maps fr farcry P-E. Also another good idea for the editor is different types of the same building, for example, haveing the same looking sniper tower all over a map makes it look unreal, but a different loking sniper tower on the same map is better, a black colored and damaged sniper tower in the mountains and a brand new silver looking sniper tower by the beach. |

yeh your right that if you could tunnel underground and even water (meaning water doesnt come in the tunnel)it would make a lot moreoutta course maps and fightin maps

I agree with you MasMayhem The map editor in Far Cry is the main reason i would buy the game. With out it i would probably just let game fly ship it to me, play it for a week, get some achievments and send it back.

Why do the Console Editors have to be made for beginners? Even though how incredibly limited the Editor was for consoles, I still manage to make huge mountains but why 'beginner'? Why can't the Xbox 360 share the glory with the PC? I'm sick of the limits and I'm sick how hard it is to pull off what the developer didn't really intend, I want more... sorta ticks me off how your post was right before my birthday. First of all there are restrictions as to how many options you can have on a console level editor, as it would just make it rediciously complicated and annoying to use. Where as a PC has a mouse \o/ you can get through all the menus and shizz quickly, place objects with complete accuracy, and generally make better maps as the result. P.s. Im sorry he ruined your birthday |

You do realize that you can see my map that have won in a contest as it is seen in my signature, you know...
The map is called Heavy Dam and "RM" stands for "Remade". The open gap beneath the Dam (Should be colored blue) flows the water down although it's a waterfall glitch. I can guarantee that map is a pain in the ass to make, since it doesn't allow me modify polygons and such. The Map Editor in the console versions reminds me of Halo 3 Forge but you can also modify terrain and start maps from scratch instead even though the Editors came first. And I heavily doubt that the Xbox 360 can't handle geometry editing, menus (Easily done with the Start Button or holding either triggers). And intermediate to expert map makers on consoles have complete accuracy in placing brushes. And there's another map that I made "Lost Dam RM", a smaller, close quarter Dam surrounded by two huge ice cold mountains (Even though the "Sand" is colored white at Tropical in Night time). Yes, there are HUGE limits on the consoles and some like me manages to pull things off but we happen to be ticked off by the limits set up. Hope that Shawn LeBlanc can set things right for Far Cry 2 Map Editor. [ Photosite: A, B - Stop Uwe Boll directing the Far Cry movie |
