Like the CryEngine2, the Dunia engine offers some unique features to make the game more realistic, and therefore immersive to players.
Time/Resource restraints usually mean some things arent as realistic as they could be.Have you noticed any wierd things happening in the tech demo's that doesnt seem realistic in such a realistic virtual world? If so, post them below. Tech Demo Vid (GDC 2008) - requires Quicktime plugin: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/30936.html 1> At the very beginning, when the commentator is shooting the bush with the handgun, the wind is blowing from left to right (based on the long grass), yet all of the bits being shot off the bush fly against the wind (to the left). 2> When showing off the weather system, where it rains, the hand and gun dont get wet, nor have rain bouncing off them. Anyone else sad enough to notice this stuff? |

yeah it was sad to see the rain only falling for the sky and getting blew by the wind. How come they havent added that it splashes on the ground and the hand and gun!

yes i agree totally ice
did u notice the clouds moving in the opposite direction to the wind blown grass ? or for that matter when he does a 180 degree turn . the grass blades are still blowing to his right each time umbongo is great and deserve,s a prize for most creative twit going |

Agree I loved the tumble weed being blown right to left and the grass going left to right. Did you also notice the little tree when he was firing Machine Gun that was being blown violently right to left, and all the other were going left to right. Though the rain was pointless and glad the plant growth will not make it into final game. as it looked so wrong

You and your tea-bagging...
Am I the only one who's disappointed that vegetation doesn't grow? Obviously it shouldn't grow as fast as shown in the tech demos, but it would be nifty if you returned to an area toward the end of the game and it was overgrown with trees. Maybe a little unrealistic given the lifespan of your common game, but we are meant to be able to spend about 80 hours in the singleplayer campaign if we do absolutely everything (well, that was the original plan). |

I was just playing this cool game on PS3 the other day (it was like FarCry crossed with Tomb Raider, really quite good) and your character got wet wherever water touched him and he got dirty clothes. It REALLY immersed you in the game.
I totally think your arms and weapon should look wet in the rain, get dirty, burnt, etc. It's a quite easy way to get the player totally absorbed in the game, as long as the rest of the game's good, which it will be. So add some of these simple effects to the arms/weapons. |

THEY HAVENT FINISHED FAR CRY 2 YET OMG WHAT IS WRONG WITH U GUYS!!!!

that gazelle on the other side of the road didn't have a shadow... also, the shadow of the tree infront of the gazelle didn't seem to be dynamic at all.. that might have something to do with draw distance though.

good point, actually there are still many bugs(or flaw) in the game, which let me see gaming is still very limited today even they have announced a bunch of new features, big distance from reality.

A little off topic but, as far as i can tell tree growth is still in the game- they were particularly keen on pointing this out at GDC. But the point is that new trees dont grow dotted about, just damagaed trees already there regrow. So you wouldnt find a tree sprouting up where there wasnt previosuly one. You will just find that a tree you decimated with your m79 has regrown or is in the process or regrowing.

lol. i could really hear your voice in my head, rilliden. made me laugh. |

the developers made the trees grow back too quickly.
in real life it would take years for a tree to grow its branches back ------------------------------------------ They eat no meat, and aside from personal clothing and toilet articles, own nothing as individuals. http://silentwulf.com/flash/free_food.swf. that is why you should stay away from shrooms. |
||||
|
Yes it would in real life, but the game is still retaining this feature. If you saw a tech demo where the branches grew back very quickly that was because the process was sped up greatly for the purposes of showing it off to people at GDC. The feature will still be in the game i am almost sure of it. Besides i think it is going to be one of those awesome features that you won't notice very often but when you do it will be cool

That is actually something that happens all the time. Wind direction can be completely different at varying altitudes. And sometimes wind can come from two directions at once. So I don't think it is that big of a deal. |

I was really impressed by the tech demo, and never even noticed these things. Mind you, I didn't study it that closely but I'm going to take another peak at it. I find that I'm just not as critical about this sort of stuff as I used to be though.
