so im getting a PS3 soon and i was thinking about getting a new game when i get it (Uncharted 2 maybe) and a few last year games that i missed and that are probably cheap by now, one of those i have in mind is Far Cry 2 since i love the original far cry instincs on the xbox with its multiplayer and map editor i was wondering if here at the FC2 official forums can answer mea couple of questions

1. How strong is the community online right now??(PS3 version)

2. how is the multiplayer?

3. how is the map creator's community?

dont waste your money, UBI doesnt support the game and when they do its the worst support ever, and i thought EA was bad, LOL. Yout better off renting it and waiting for Crysis to come out in 2010 which will blow this game away

1. The community is somewhat strong, there's usually at least one type of match full every day, but often times there's more. However, the server crashes almost once a week, meaning maps take ages to download.

2. The multiplayer is good, but the unfairness and glitches ruin it. It is very realistic, but at least twice a game, you'll be killed by someone even after loading a clip into them from a foot away. On top of that, you'll inexplicably be logged out of the server every so often.

3. New maps are created often, but it can be difficult to get people to play your own maps.

Honestly, I would advise against buying the game. Its environment and premise are flawless, but the game is murdered by its innumerable glitches. The worst part is that you could get addicted to the game, and regardless of how mad it makes you and how many times it screws you over, you can't go without playing it, at least that's been my experience. I have Killzone 2 and Resistance 2, and in my opinion, they are complete crap compared to Far Cry 2 multiplayer. Killzone is very fake, as is Resistance 2, which is the main problem: FC2 will infuriate you, but the alternatives are even worse, in terms of gameplay. If you want a game which is realistic, at least most of the time, buy Far Cry, but if you are easily angered by being screwed over by shoddy programming, skip out on this game.

so are you telling me that KZ2 and R2 multiplayer are **** cause they are not as realistic as Far Cry 2? in what way? cause KZ2 and R2 are supposed to be sci-fi shooters therefore they were not made with realism in mind, i guess you are telling your own opinion based on your preference on realistic shooters, in my case i prefer any kind of online shooter as long as it is engaging, so what can you tell me about the FC2 MP from that point of view?

anyway if it is so hard to get people to play your maps, can this forum be used to arrange play nights with other people in the community?

also i have heard the game has its bugs but i doubt i will ever have a worse online experience than i lived with Glitches of Lag 2 (Gears of war 2 hardy har har)

but it bugs me the server problems, are they very often? and how about that you upload a clip on a guy without him dieing?

There was a major server problem a few weeks ago, but recently server downtime has been fixed within hours, unless it was just my connection. The whole thing about shooting someone and still being killed is the worst part. You can fire at someone even 5 seconds before they fire at you and still you may lose the battle. And they won't die either, it will just be you most of the time. Sometimes, you can literally headshot some with the sniper 3 or more times, and they don't die, nor will they be injured, although this is more rare. When in Ranked Matches, you have to worry about being banned for being a good player if the host is on the opposite team. Putting that all aside, however, I would say Far Cry 2 MP is more engaging. In R2, for example, in a Capture the Flag game, you may live just to kill the guy who has your team's flag, and even then, you could die before getting the kill, and it all feels very insignificant. In FC2 MP, you could kill the guy who has your team's diamond (Flag), steal the enemy's, and return it to your base in one life. It feels much more accomplished. In R2 and KZ2, you feel like you're just being thrown at the enemy, whereas in FC2, you feel, at least to a degree, like your presence actually matters. As for the R2 and KZ2 comparison, its not necessarily that they're sci-fi, but you only live for a few minutes on those games, maybe seconds, usually regardless of skill. In FC, you can live longer, and its a lot less fast-paced. FC2 MP usually makes your spawn feel more successful, as long as it doesn't glitch. Also, the sniper rifle in KZ2 is pathetic, so if you're a sniper, you probably wouldn't like that game. Lastly, as for the maps, generally you just have to be willing to wait for people to join your game if you want to use your map.

I'm addicted to this game, despite the many MP problems. It's so much fun if you don't take it seriously. Just accept it for what it is, imo, the best, crap online shooter on the market.

Play my maps. Search "kevballs" in author, or "B3E" in map name.

I find MP lots of fun, despite the problems which have been mentioned. It is a shame that some hosts appear to behave unfairly and teams are often unfair.

Don't underestimate the SP. I find it really atmospheric. It can be as crazy or as calculated as you like. 2nd time through and I'm planning things out a bit more. The 24h lighting & weather effects, and great sound (apart from the revving jeeps) really make it special.

For a bargain price or second hand, I'd give it a go!

I completly agree, SP alone is worth buying, and if SOMEONE(who could that be?) would cut the power of the hosts, MP really would be great!

However, you can still find some honest hosts, (or be one yourself) and have fun, but don't count on support by Ubi to fix things... .

After all, if you like "realistic"-shooters, buy FC2, if you're more into "action", I'd say KILLZONE2! (where MP is really good!)
