I have downloaded the SP demo.
The graphics are amazing and the AI is good (though not as good as expected) but for some reason I can only hear player sounds.
E.g. I can hear vehicle engines if i'm driving them. I can hear my weapons and I can hear my footsteps and radio.
I cannot hear vehicles driven by enemies, enemy conversations, enemy footsteps or any gunfire or explosions. this makes it very difficult to play.
Is it a bug in the demo or is my soundcard not up to scratch?
Cheers,
Urbanebula.

Same problem here with a Santa Cruz soundcard. I had to go into DXDIAG and turn the hardware acceleration for my card down to basic and I heard the enemy conversations, footsteps and gunfire. It has to be a bug in the game because I never had a problem with any other game using my Santa Cruz soundcard. Considering a ton of people own this soundcard it would behove them to fix this in the game because it's not going to make me go out and buy a Creative soundcard.... I know that for sure.

also you may try to use "software mixing" in the sound options menu...

I can't unenable hardware mixing in the demo so that doesn't work. I click the box and nothing happens.

Yeah, I tried to uncheck that box and it just clicked at me and did nothing. I did what Zoso_Rocks said to do and that worked a treat. Cheers mate.

Don't feel bad, the problem isn't strickly with the Santa Cruz cards. I have a Creative Labs Audigie and it did the sam ting.
