View Full Version : Not happy about the triangle...

I was just watching the merc MP video, and I noticed something disturbing; everytime a spy ran near the merc, his crosshairs would put up a little triangle that marked everyplace the spy went. So, basically, you don't even need motion detectors or EMF detectors-your HUD will do it for you. These triangles remind me a lot of the red dot feature in Ghost Recon (didn't like that one, either!). In the video, the triangle appears on the mercs' crosshairs (pointing down) just before the spy grabs him. How lame! Please tell me this isn't going to be in the game.

Dude, check out the movies; anytime there is a spy running around, this little triangle shows up on the mercs' HUD, telling him exactly where to go! That sucks!

Only when the spy is making noise.

Still, doesn't that seem a little too helpful for the mercs? I thought the idea was to listen carefully, check the shadows, use traps, etc.

yeah thats a noise indicator and it only works when the spy is either running at full speed or making some other sort of noise like throwing flashbangs and stuff.

But, I thought that when playing as a merc, the idea is to listen carefully, check the shadows, use traps, etc. Doesn't this make it too easy for the mercs?

I think it will be like the SOCOM dot on the crosshair, so it won't be effective if the spies can sneak well

yeah personnaly i'd be happier if they removed the triangle. Its better if the mercs have u use their own ears to try and find a spy rather than having the game tell them.

but that would only work if everyone had a surround sound system. and i really dont think it makes it unfair because if the spies are dumb enough to run around making alot of noise there gonna get shot anyways. and its already in alot of games like ghost recon and socom that theres an indicator as to where the noise is coming from. also the triangle only appears at the 12, 3 , 6 and 9 o'clock postions on the recticule so its really only gives the general direction and doesnt pinpoint them out.

It sounds to me that the only reason for the triangle is to indicate which direction the sound came from. I think this is a good thing because if it was real life you would be able to hear which direction the sound came from but when the sound is coming out of speekers usually in front of the player there is no way to tell where the sound is coming from.

But still, the mercs are so disadvantaged mobility wise, because they can't climb ladders and are slow and stuff, so it still somewhat balances it. And it only shows up when the spys make loud noices nearby, like with the spy bullet and flashbangs. This only makes it fair. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

hey if a spy throughs a flash bang nade or chaff nade on one side of the map, will that triangle thing still appear if the merc is on the other side? i hope not.

I don't think it really helps that much. In the GameSpot vids, a spy could easily run up and grab a merc.

Yea mercs have a slight disadvantage and this should even it up a little!

i believe the only time it shows up when a spy goes through a spytrap it says when a spy goes through a merc's spytrap it will show their location on the HUD. so i believe it is nothing to worry about.

i bet the guys over at ubisoft montreal spent SO MUCH TIME ITS UNBELIEVABLE balancing out both the mercs and the spies so that they both have equal advantages and disadvantages

You can still here what direction the noise cam from if you have Home Theatre...you can tell if it came behind and to the left or front and to the right..

Not everyone has surround sound, like it was mentioned in an earlier post. Also not everyone can have a system going like that late at night (family, neighbors, etc..) so it will be a little helpful with being to helpful.. its not like the merc is automatically whipped around to the sound.. there is still room for user error (maybe he didn't notice it or fumbled the controller out of shear terror that there was someone behind him, lol).

This game will bring about many late nights for me, and as I don't really care if I am a spy or merc I will be definately glad that this little function is there. I am still trying to figure out how to attach one headphone to my xbox live headset without ruining my headphones{my tv has a headphone}. This game is going to be great, and I can't believe how many little petty complaints about what you see in the videos have been posted, when you haven't even played the !!FINAL!! version of the game.
