Hello m8's;

I was provided with a link to PCPower and Cooling to purchase a stronger psu for my Dell 4550 during the upgrade I recently finished. It listed a Turbo_Cool 450watt unit for $150. The 300wat units were priced at $90. After money spent with the upgrade, I thought I would try to be frugal and save some money by trying to find the same psu on eBay. I did find one. It is a Turbo_Cool 300watt by PCPower and Cooling. So for $20 including shipping, I felt I couldn't pass it up. Only to get it home and find that it is missing a square 4 pin connector that is located above the AGP slot, to the left of the Northbridge cooler, and below the cpu. Another thing I noticed is the 20 pin connector has wires going into every slot on the connector on the new psu. Well, the 20 pin connector in my computer has one empty slot. It is on the inside row of wires closest to the DIMM slots and the 3rd one from the right. With all that being said, and even though it is named the exact same name as the psu that PCPower and Cooling listed would work with my Dell, will this psu work? If not, I am worried now that if I break down and order one from PCPower and Cooling, that the wiring will be the same as the psu I just bought. Thanks for any help m8's.

You need to talk to SpongeBob--below is a link to his website:

http://www.spongebobsupgradesite.com/index.html

He knows everything there is to know about upgrading the power supply on a Dell (I have an 8200, but with the original PSU). However, if you click on the "contact me" link on the website, you will see a message indicating that he is not answering emails right now--perhaps he is on vacation. Best of luck!

I would borrow somebody's jig-saw and do as I already told you and for $70.00 U.S. or so, you can then just forget about the issue by buying a Antec power supply.

Now with an actual index & more fiber! It is newer & and even more improved! It's Luckyboy's Guide For Complete Users!...

This is excellent advice. Having a proprietary machine that limits your possibilities is not desireable and this small mod is well worth it...and Antec PS's rock.
