Yea, it does appear as sam's stabbing the guy before the firefight, and later stabbing another guy in the back with it, then you can really hear a cutting sound...

But many things change during development, if UBI says no to killing with the knife, then it wont be any killing with the knife...

It looks like he stabs for me before the firefight. I can't really say if he takes out the knife or not... and I watched it a lot of times. If he just punches the guy in the stomach, the guy wouldn't go unconcious. I think he would just hit the floor with the pain, but should get up in a short time (by short time I mean around 5 minutes). But if Ubi says there won't be killing with the knife, there won't... Though I didn't see it being said officially.

As for stabbing from behind, in the head, I think it doesn't happen. Check the video that shows the room with the candle (which Sam blows off), and you'll clearly see that he doesn't take out the knife and you can also see his fist closed.

Indeed it would be kind of stupid if they changed it. Imo it's a highly appropriate
way to dispose of that guard in such a hectic
situation. Sam KNOWS that if he doesn't take
that guard down, that guard will be up again
shooting Sam in the back within 2 minutes.
The threat of that whole firefight situation
with SO many enemies around is too fierce to
take any chances ; and since the guard was in
very close range/close quarters combat, stabbing him is the best option.

Maybe Ubi makes Sam use a method of stabbing which incapacitates/severes a guard enough (stab at pure muscle mass, avoiding primary life organs), but which isn't lethal perse. Yes, there's always a chance that gaurd could die from the stab... but hey...this is a 'war' situation and he's on the opposing side.

i watched the video, and i agree, sam does use the knife to kill 2 people actually (from what i saw). i hope you can kill people with the knife, but if you cant i dont really care. i dont know why everyone is so uptight about this subject, we wont really know untill it comes out.

i honestly havent got a clue as to what is going on

when i first saw the E3 Video for SC3 (the German one) i thought that you could slit throats as it looked like there was blood on the TV set at a certain part in the video.

as you guys know i was adamant about it.

then i read in my PCZone mag that the knife WASNT used for killing

i was THEN adamant about THAT, and NOT the blood thing

THEN i watched ANOTHER video (which was clearer than the German one) and it CLEARLY shows a neck slice and Sam jabbing a knife into some poor guards stomach

to be honest...all i can say is

C'mon, that guard would shoot or slice up Sam without hesitation, if Sam wouldn't beat him to it. It's a super frantic up close battle situation in that scene there. Taking 'prisoners' in that situation means you're dead right there. Sam is a pro, he probably HAS 5th freedom in that situation (the protocol of the mission is to complete the mission and that includes getting it done and getting there out ALIVE). The cause for which Sam is fighting is better served with Sam surviving that fight than a dead or captured Sam(and then tortured to death, maybe by that same 'poor' guard). The means being a knife in this single case is justified.

Man.. I don't know why they bother giving you weapons in Splinter Cell, they give you guns that aren't used to shoot people, knives that aren't used to stab people.. I mean, the pistol is more or less a club.. its a Tactical Five-Seven silenced pistol, which translates to being an expensive clubbing object.. I guess the knife is going that way too. I bet this is just so they can keep a lower rating so that younger people can buy the game.
