A while back I dumped my Ti4200 for a Radeon 9800 Pro. Wonderful card but when I went to give SC another go I encountered issues with the in-game shadows that were related to the games use of 'Shadow Buffer' technology which is nVidia specific.

The end result was that not all of the shadows worked properly and some of them didnt work at all.

Im very much looking forward to playing PT, but Im curious if it is being developed with the exact same technology as the first, or if there will be some sort of seperate shadow rendering method used so thet Ati cards will display the game properly.

Any one know for sure?

Truely? Radeon's will work better than GeForces, due to the lack of shading tech in the GeForces.

MSI K8T Neo
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB

I just hope I don't have to go buy another card after the last splinter cell. Any one know if there's a shot at a DVD-ROM addition?

Very good question as ATI users has to deal with simple shadows:

nVidia

ATI

ATI's R3xx can do the same thing, it's just a matter of coding, I hope the devs don't forget ATI users

They have to use a diffenrent technique to get it working on R9xxx cards.

So far they didn't bother to use it in SPlintercell 1, but I have a good feeling it will be there in PT.

They could use a Pixelshader 1.4 to produce a projected shadow(map).

I hope there's not going to be any graphical difference between (recent) nVidia and ATi cards anymore. I mean, I upgraded from a GeForce 3Ti200 to a Radeon 9800 only to find out Splinter Cell lost one of its most unique features... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I wish they would put a PC demo before release so we can test this out. Because if this the case I might change my pre-order from PC to Xbox.

They better freakin' be! I just upgraded to a 9700 Pro (couldn't justify going for a 9800)!

On the system requirements on the FAQ on the SC site, it says that the 9700 is supported, and the 9800 is recommended. Hopefully that means that we'll get all the proper effects.

I don't think you will get the shadows, and prepare to play on a low res as the game brings a R9800 to it knees http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You need probably at least a R8500 to get full working features the R8500 supports ps 1.4
