Hi.. Sorry for changing names. I've posted here before with the name "PhreaksGame" but would like to use my standard alias.
Anyway! I've noticed that practically all the mod ideas thus far are futuristic. Why is this? I've got an imagination, but one of the reasons Counter-Strike has always been so appealing to me is because it is based off of reality. I like games with certain truths. I've never really seen any ideas like this on here, but know that they would have great success. Not many games appeal to me due to their sci-fi approach. I'd really enjoy a game focused on the paranormal, but any attempt so far has been over-exaggerated & unrealistic. Is there any plans on making a mod like this, or would anyone be interested in creating one? Sorry if this offends the sci-fi community, because I respect them, but there are too many sci-fi games out there. Personally I'd be more scared of a game that is like real life. I hope you like my idea & please respond.

dont you think that there are too many realism based games/mods out there already. Personally i think they are just about the least innovative thing people can do.
Sci-fi on the other hand is a perfect breeding ground for new and innovative gameplay as it is far more restricting than the "real" world.
but thats just my two cents http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yeah really there already is a realism mod for Far Cry. It's called Far Cry http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

If you want realistic mods, wait for Half Life 2, I'm sure there's at least 100 of them in the works as we speak.
I agree with Teh_f0nx. Sci Fi games is great for creativity, but Sci Fi ain't the only other possibilty. Games with a "twist" is another possiblity. Look at Monkey-Strike for Half Life.
It's just "different" from other mods. Your mods don't have to be in the future, it doesn't have to have real guns. Hell, it doesn't even need guns.
Expand your minds dude. Creativity can be better than more guns and more gore.

I know that the PC has it's share of realistic games & mods.. Splinter Cell, Raven Shield, Counter-Strike, Hostile Intent, & Battlefield 1942 just to name a few. I'm not trying to suggest that all mods need to be based off of reality. I enjoy sci-fi games as well, e.g. KotOR, but most realistic games are still too fictional. Even FarCry is unrealistic, with monsters running around everywhere.
Maybe realistic games don't present the best storylines but that can change. With a good story & a great team of developers, a story based off a real-life event or something that is possible this present day would be great. The Cry Engine would be great to re-construct parts of a city. It's hard to suggest movies that would make great mods, a couple for example are The Hunted & A Man Apart. Not all games have to be full of guns & weapons though.
I love stragety based games, where you've got to solve a mystery. Of course you're going to have to kill someone eventually in a game, but if that's all you do then it even begins to lack reality. The Cry Engine is full of a lot more potential that has been discussed so far, & could allow for basically any kind of game including RPGs.
This being said, It'd be nice to just hear about a mod idea that isn't just your typical shoot 'em up FPS. Please someone post something that is the least bit supportive of my idea.

Funny thing is that a sub-bos for the mod i started modeling is a giant monkey (not mutant) throwing bananas http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Awesome, I also really enjoy silly/fun mods. Any plans on making a Leisure Suite Larry life-like mod? :-P Or how about Sam & Max.. since they ended up deciding not to make a second game.

I'm all for futuristic mods and games, the only thing that bugs me with it is that usually zombies and monsters are involved. This was a part turn off in Far Cry for me. I had to resort to merging the demo cheats into the final game for the god mode to get past the Dam and Volcano maps.

All great ideas! I love the ability to use the Sandbox Editor as a Cut-Scene Editor. Has anyone experimented with this yet?

I agree with those who are for creativity. I want to see games with themes, settings, and gameplay that hasn't been done to death already (for example CS and other such "realism" mods). And yeah, sci-fi is only one of many directions for an original idea to go. There are tons of options for creating those weird and interesting games, and I think now that most gamers are slowly getting sick of CS (or have been for a while), more mods that are different and unique will develop.

Well, monsters and zombies go with sci-fi... I would consider them one of the elements (though not mandatory) of the sci-fi genre. If you take out the monsters and other weird stuff, then it's just a futuristic realism game. At least that's MHO of monsters and zombies and such.

Scifi doesn't imply monsters and zombies. A setting in the future in space and what not is already scifi, and I did not mention monsters yet.

I still PRAY! that someone will do a predator mod.. for multiplayer modes..
How freaking cool would that be, one predator with invisible capabilities vs 10 players who have to hunt him, if he gets killed.. the killer becomes the predator..
Man it makes me tingle when i talk about it!

I want a realism based mod, sure they've been done to death but imagine them with the far cry engine
and fyi "realism based games" have been FAR LESS done to death than scifi, virtually every game from the beginning of gaming to the late 90s was scifi!!!!!!!
Also drop the "THIS IS GAME, JOIN THE ARMY IF YOU WANT REALISM" argument, it is possibly the worst argument I have ever heard
we don't want REAL LIFE - THE GAME, we want a REALISM BASED game, with realistic weapons
think Raven Shield, but with MUCH bigger maps and more action, less strategy (ala call of duty)
the fact is a realism based shooter hasn't been done nearly as good as it could be in far cry, I mean what with the sneaking and the open ended goal accomplishment methods.
Don't shoot other peoples ideas down just because you don't like them, counter-strike is one of the most popular games in existence (STILL!) so there are obviously ALOT of people who disagree with you "REALISM IS GAY IN GAMES" people
If you don't want to see a realism based mod, don't bother posting here! There are plenty of us who do!
PS. I will also be loving the scifi mods coming out for Far Cry, especially stargate SG1 (realism based scifi, who woulda thought?)

maybe not invisibility but you could use the heat blurring shader, that would be nice i think (if it doesn t work there are such shaders in examples of FX programming i ve seen on the net) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I never said it implies monsters and zombies, I just said they go well together. Just cause you have bread and jelly, doesn't imply that you are making a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich, but those three just go so well together you know. And like I said, if you take out stuff like monsters, then it becomes a "futuristic realism" theme instead of a sci-fi theme. Granted, there is only a thin line between the two, but I see it as being similar to the difference between ancient history and mythology. But everyone has their own definition I guess.

I agree that there have been more sci-fi-ish games made overall than realism games, but the problem with realism is... well, you're kinda limited by realism, so there isn't much you can do, thus every realism mod/game is very similar to every other one. But with sci-fi/fantasy, or anything not realistic, the similarity of a game/mod from the rst of the pack is only limited by the team's imagination and creativity. Thus these genre's have have more variety, and can have more games out without feeling over done.
Also, as far as realism goes, it's not that it's been over done throughoutthe entire history of games, it's just these past few years, realism has been "the big thing" and I think people are slowly getting tired.

I think mods of any kind are great and drastically expand the life of a game(Jedi Academy/outcast, HL, ect.) One of the most important being game models. Being that the software used for these is RATHER expensive, it limits the number model makers for games. Anyhoot, a night of the living dead/dawn of the dead mod would be cool(I think some people have already started it). An Alien, predator or AVP mod would also be cool(do not forget the smart gun!). I personally have done some minor modifications as well as skinning and mapping For JA/JO and hope to get into modding the mod-friendly platform soon. One request I ask is that someone make a spider-man, grey fox, or dead pool player model, I have this comic charecter I had made in HS and I use him in all my games(JO/JA, GTA 3/VC, ect.) and I would like to use him in this game also. Thanks for your time.
