I've got a AmD Athlon 2800+
512 MB ram
Gforce 4 mx 440 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Stupid budget-cart http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Yes, but you will need to upgrade your graphics card to take advanatge of the new directx features you see in the stunning screenshots.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif I think your G4 will work just fine! Just make sure you update your driver at Nvidia (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_56.72).

Since GF4MX cards do not support directx8 or directx9 effects like shaders the eye candy you'll see in SH3 will be rather limited. No fancy water...

A driver update won't help much because the hardware is simply not capable of rendering these effects.

Domientje, I'm using a 9600PRO and would advise against buying the 9600SE. The 9600PRO is a fine card with a very good price/performance ratio. The 9600SE, while not being THAT much cheaper than the PRO version loses quite some performance.

From a test here:

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NTYz

"So what makes the 9600SE an SE? That would be the 64-bit memory interface. That‚'s right, the 9600/Pro and XT use a 128-bit memory interface, but the 9600SE reduces that even further down to only 64-bits. What does this mean for the memory bandwidth? Well, the memory speed is set at 200MHz (400MHz DDR) so with a 64-bit memory bus that would mean it has only 3.2GB/sec of memory bandwidth. Already we can see this as a bottleneck when enabling features like Anti-Aliasing on this card. For comparison the 9600Pro and XT come with a 300MHz (600MHz) memory clock on a 128-bit bus offering up 9.6GB/sec of memory bandwidth. What about the rest of the specs? The core engine clock speed is set at 325MHz. For comparison the 9600Pro is set at 400MHz and the 9600XT is set at 500MHz. It is based on the same 4 pixel pipeline architecture of the 9600. This means it has a Pixel Fillrate of 1.3 Gpixels/Sec vs. the 9600 Pro‚'s 1.6 Gpixels/sec and the 9600XT‚'s 2.0 Gpixels/sec."

I'm very happy with my 9600PRO, it runs grafically demanding games like IL2:FB and Far Cry very well, has great image quality and very good anti-alising performance.

Yeah get at least a 9600Pro, or even a 9600XT. If you can drop some more bucks, get a 9800Pro which gives the most bang for the buck right now. I've got a 2800+ (overclocked 2500+) with 1GB of RAM and a 9800 myself and I'm confident it will run SH3 smoothly, after I noticed how it runs Far Cry http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif. But 512MB also do it.

If you're really on a tight budget I'd suggest waiting a bit before buying the new card. SH3 won't be released before autumn so there's still time.

Even though they cost more than your 100‚‚ā¨ budget I'd go for a 9600Pro or a FX5700 card. Wait two or three months and you'll be able to get them quite a bit cheaper.

Right, wait a bit and safe the money. You'll be able to afford a better card then http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif. It's better to have 150 euros then and spend them on a 9800Pro than shelling out 100 euros for a worse card now. If you don't need a better one anyway, wait until you need one. SH3 will come in September, if it won't be delayed back.
