When I try to start Far Cry, it would show the splash screen, then flash a black square, then nothing would happen. I tried restarting, etc. to no effect.
I selected Uninstall, Repair, followed the directions, and the same thing happened.
So I completely uninstalled the game, reinstalled. While the files were being copied, at CD3 I got a Windows message "Wrong Volume in Drive, please insert volume "FARCRY_1", try again, continue, cancel. It would go away no matter what I clicked. I continued to swap disks for the install. After inserting CD 5, when the progress bar had almost reached the end, I got a message that "English.cab is corrupt and can not be found" or something to that effect. Thinkming my cd might be damaged, I used a friend's identical CD, clicked retry, and nothing happened for more than 20 minutes.
What's going on? What do I need to do to get Far Cry working again?
Thanks.

Here's an updated history of the stuff I've gone though.
- Install my new retail "not for sale outside Thailand" copy (cheap off ebay, unused CD-Key)
- Far Cry runs fine
- Install the Deviance No-CD crack for convenience.
- Far Cry runs fine without CD for a few times.
- Later, FC doesn't start, I get a Critical Exception Error:

- Delete crack EXE, replace with original EXE
- Splash Screen shows, black rectangle flashes, then nothing.
- I run a repair install of Far Cry, still no success.
- I uninstall far cry completely, then install again.
- During install, I get a window popping up that says "Wrong Volume in Drive, insert volume 'Farcry_1'" try again, continue, close. nothing can make the window go away, but install continues in background.
- at the very end of the install, I get a message that a file cannot be found on the CD. The CD is perfectly clean and has suffered no damage since the earlier perfect install.
- After the botched install, I install Far Cry off a friend's pirated discs (which is OK, since I bought the game...) and everything runs smoothly with the exception of the "Wrong Volume in Drive" window.
Now I can't run FC with my friend's Disc 1 (play disc) OR my own Disc 1 and I still can't get the NO-CD to work! AAARGH!
Can anyone please offer some insight?

Here is what happened.
You are being punished for letting your friend copy your CD's and for using cracking software.
I wonder if this thread will be locked?

I didn't let my friend copy my CDs, he downloaded the files. I paid for a retail version of the game, don't look at me. No-CD cracks are perfectly legal if you bought the game, like I did.
