hi there im just getting into making single and miltiplayer maps and i got a few questions that i need help with,i only been learning this for 3 days so its all abit confusing at first

i printed out the 188 manual today took me 5 hours to print lol should help me too..

1)sometimes when i press generate surface texture i get erors that say light map error or something is this important?

2)when placing vegitation i can only view the plants from a close distance anything far away shows up as white,i try to cure this by setting the maxview distance and sprite distance but i really need to know some solid settings so the vegitation will be at a comfortible distance with out lagging my fps to 0 (ive had real headaches today working with vegitation i tryed to cover my whole map with a certain bunch of grasses and my computer crashed and i lost all my work hehe, plus i realize my maps have got to be much smaller than 4096*4096 cause trying to cover this entire landmass was a bad mistake http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

3)when making texture layers for my map i get a bit confused with the slope range setings could someone please explain there parameters to me.

4)also when i have finished my textures and moved onto to my vegitation, after placing some do i have to press generate surface texture again(basically i need to know if i ever have to press generate surface texture after ive finish making my land with al its textures)cause i pressed it again after placing a whole lot of vegitation and my computer seemed to overload and crash.

5)when trying to use the surface painter
i get big ugly squares showing up on the surface i try to paint, any cure for this, i thought i might have a setting that needs to be ajusted..

well thats all i can think of atm that i need help with then ill get into objects and physics
tnx for ya help guys..

The white box which you see at a distance from your vegitation will go away once you gererate the surface texture again. Every time you add a new type of vegitation to your map for the very first time you will have to generate the surface texture again to get rid of the white box.

Similarily when you paint a trail and save your map then shut the editor down and start the editor reload the map - the trail is gone - this happens for the same reason - every time you do a layer painting sesion you have to to a regenerate surface texture again. HOPE that helps. Number 2

3) The scale is 0 to 255 for which 0 = 0â? and 255 = 90â? so a 45â? angle would be 127.5.

4)Yes. But I suggest doing mass vegetation first, easier to generate without all the AI and brushes. Then use the paint tool to fill in or remove as you work. (if you are painting vegetation, use option click to erase)

5) I get this as well, I think the editor uses low res for painting to make it easier on the CPU. Once you regenerate, it should be ok.
